## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## 📰 Google News Scraper

> **Search Google News in 50+ country editions and get the real article links, not Google redirects.** Keywords, topics, local news and top stories, with publisher, publish time, related coverage and optional full article text.

**Google News Scraper** reads Google News for any keyword, topic section (Business, Technology, Sports...), city or region, across 50+ country and language editions in one run. Google News normally hides every article behind an encoded `news.google.com` redirect. This Actor **resolves the real publisher URL** for each article, so the links are ready for analysis, deduplication or content extraction. Need more than 100 results? Set a date range and the Actor searches **day by day**, up to 100 articles per day.

| 🎯 Who uses it | 💡 What for |
|---|---|
| PR and comms teams, market researchers, investors, journalists, SEO teams, AI and RAG builders | Brand and competitor monitoring, media coverage reports, trading signals, trend research, news datasets for LLMs |

### 📋 What it does

- 🔎 **Keyword search** with Google operators (`"exact phrase"`, `OR`, `-exclude`, `intitle:`).
- 🗂️ **Topic sections:** World, Nation, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science, Health.
- 📍 **Local news** for any city, region or country name.
- 🏠 **Top stories** front page per edition.
- 🌍 **50+ editions.** US, UK, India, Mexico, Colombia, Spain, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan and more. Results are merged and de-duplicated.
- 🔗 **Real article URLs.** Encoded Google News links are converted into the real publisher URL.
- 📅 **Date control.** Quick ranges (past hour, day, week, month, year) or a custom from/to range.
- 📈 **Past the 100 result limit.** A custom date range is searched one day at a time.
- 🏷️ **Publisher filters.** Only certain sites, or exclude sites.
- 🧩 **Related coverage.** For grouped stories, the other outlets covering the same event.
- 📄 **Optional article extraction.** Image, description, author, publish time, language, full text and word count from the publisher page.

### 📊 Output

Real record from a run:

```json
{
    "title": "Firefox just got a redesign with round tabs, new themes, and Compact Mode",
    "source": "The Verge",
    "sourceUrl": "https://www.theverge.com",
    "publishedAt": "2026-09-29T13:00:00.000Z",
    "articleUrl": "https://www.theverge.com/tech/1001867/mozilla-firefox-157-redesign-compact-mode",
    "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMihgFBVV95cUxPRGYy...",
    "relatedArticles": [
        { "title": "Interview: Firefox's chief on why he hopes a redesign will help win users from Chrome", "source": "Ars Technica", "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/..." },
        { "title": "The new Firefox design: More modern, more flexible, still Firefox", "source": "The Mozilla Blog", "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/..." }
    ],
    "searchType": "topic",
    "searchTerm": "TECHNOLOGY",
    "edition": "US:en",
    "scrapedAt": "2026-09-29T21:55:02.000Z"
}
```

With `extractArticle` on, each record also gets `imageUrl`, `description`, `author`, `articlePublishedAt`, `language`, `fullText` and `wordCount`. If a publisher blocks automated visits or uses a paywall, the article is still saved and includes an `extractionError` note.

### ✨ Why this one

- ✅ **Real publisher links**, not Google redirects. Most Google News scrapers stop at the encoded link.
- ✅ **More than 100 results** per query with the daily split.
- ✅ **50+ editions** and all the main ways to browse: search, topics, local news and top stories.
- ✅ **Related coverage** shows how many outlets picked up a story.
- ✅ **No duplicates** across queries, days and editions.
- ✅ **Lightweight.** No browser needed.

### ❓ FAQ

**Why does Google News stop at 100 articles?** Each feed returns at most 100 items. Use a date range with `splitByDay` to get up to 100 per day.

**Can I monitor a keyword every hour?** Yes. Schedule the Actor with `timeRange: 1h`.

**Is the full text always available?** No. Some publishers block bots or use paywalls. Those articles keep the headline, publisher, date and URL, and include an `extractionError` note.

**Which languages are supported?** Every edition in the list, from English and Spanish to Japanese, Arabic and Hindi.

**Do I need a Google account?** No.

### 🔌 Integrations

Works with the Apify API, schedules, webhooks, Google Sheets, Make, Zapier, n8n, Slack, and vector databases for RAG pipelines.
