## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### Newly registered LLCs and corporations in New York, Colorado, Oregon and Connecticut

New Business Filings reads the business registries that four states publish as open data and gives you the companies that registered most recently, newest first, in one format. Each filing has the business name, type, date filed, city, ZIP code and a link to the state's record where one exists. Connecticut also publishes the industry the owner chose, so you can search by trade or NAICS code there.

There is no account, API key or login to set up. Pick your states, add a few words to look for in the name, and start the run.

A new business needs insurance, bookkeeping, a website, payroll, signs, equipment and a bank. People who sell those things use new filings to reach owners in their area while they are still setting up. Others use the list to watch a market, for example how many new cleaning or construction companies start each week in a county.

#### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free** and open the **Input** tab.
2. Choose the states, set how many days back to look, and add name keywords such as `roofing` or `cleaning` if you only want certain trades.
3. Click **Start**, then open the **Output** tab.

To get only fresh filings every day, turn on **Only filings I have not seen yet** and run it on a schedule. The Actor remembers what it already gave you for that set of filters and skips it next time. Each run also saves a short Markdown list of the filings (`DIGEST_MD`) that you can send to email or Slack from the Integrations tab.

#### Example inputs

New construction, roofing and plumbing businesses in all four states from the last week:

```json
{
    "keywords": ["construction", "roofing", "plumbing"],
    "filedWithinDays": 7,
    "maxItems": 100
}
```

New LLCs in the Denver area that were formed in Colorado:

```json
{
    "states": ["CO"],
    "zipCodes": ["802"],
    "entityKinds": ["llc"],
    "includeOutOfState": false,
    "maxItems": 200
}
```

New Connecticut software and IT companies, by industry code:

```json
{
    "states": ["CT"],
    "naicsCodes": ["5132", "5415"],
    "filedWithinDays": 30,
    "maxItems": 100
}
```

#### What you get

For each filing: state, business name, a simple business type (LLC, corporation, nonprofit, partnership, assumed business name, other), the state's own entity type, the state's ID number, the date filed, status, where it was formed and whether that is another state, city, ZIP code, county (New York) and industry code and description (Connecticut). Colorado and Oregon filings include a link to the state's page for that business.

A shortened example from a real run:

```json
{
    "state": "CT",
    "businessName": "Middle River Walk, LLC",
    "businessType": "llc",
    "entityId": "3540533",
    "filingDate": "2026-10-26",
    "status": "Active",
    "formedIn": "Connecticut",
    "formedOutOfState": false,
    "city": "Bridgeport",
    "zip": "06604",
    "naicsCode": "236210",
    "industry": "Industrial Building Construction"
}
```

#### How many filings to expect

In the week of October 20 to 26, 2026, the state files held about 5,200 new New York entities, 3,700 Colorado entities in good standing, 1,600 Oregon businesses (including assumed business names) and 1,100 active Connecticut businesses. A narrow keyword or ZIP code brings that down to a handful a day.

#### Which state publishes what

| State | City and ZIP | County | Industry code | Link to state record | Updated (as seen in October 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| New York | Yes (address for legal papers) | Yes | No | No | Daily |
| Colorado | Yes (principal office) | No | No | Yes | Daily |
| Oregon | Yes (principal place of business) | No | No | Yes | Daily |
| Connecticut | Yes (principal office) | No | Yes | No | Daily |

New York does not publish a business location for new companies, only the address where legal papers are sent. That is often a registered agent service, so the city and ZIP code for New York filings can belong to that service rather than the business.

#### Pricing

You pay per use. There is no monthly fee.

| What | Price |
| --- | --- |
| Each filing returned | $0.003 |
| Starting a run | $0.00005 |

Getting 500 filings costs $1.50, which is $3 per 1,000. A daily run that finds 10 new filings costs about 3 cents. A search that finds nothing costs only the start fee. Set **Maximum cost per run** in the run options, or use **Max results**, to cap what a single run can spend.

#### Questions

##### Do I need an account with the states?

No. The Actor uses each state's public open-data portal.

##### Where does the data come from, and how fresh is it?

The New York Department of State, the Colorado Secretary of State, the Oregon Secretary of State and the Connecticut Secretary of the State, through their open-data portals. The files are refreshed about once a day and usually run one day behind, so filings from today show up tomorrow. For a daily schedule, look back at least 2 days and turn on the only-new option.

##### Why did I get fewer results than I asked for?

Usually the filters. Keywords only match the business name (and the industry description in Connecticut), and many owners pick names that say nothing about the trade. The NAICS filter works only for Connecticut, so the other states are left out when you use it. Colorado filings are limited to companies in good standing.

##### Can I get owner names, emails or phone numbers?

No. The state files do not publish owner phone numbers, and this tool does not collect emails. Turn on **Include street address and registered agent** to add the address on file and the registered agent's name. They are off by default because they can belong to private people.

##### Something is wrong or missing. Where do I report it?

Open a thread in the **Issues** tab with the input you used and the business name. I answer within a few days.

#### Good to know

Sources: New York State Department of State, Division of Corporations (Active Corporations dataset, data.ny.gov); Colorado Department of State (Business Entities in Colorado, data.colorado.gov, public domain); Oregon Secretary of State, Corporation Division (Active Businesses, data.oregon.gov); Connecticut Secretary of the State (Connecticut Business Registry, data.ct.gov, public domain).

If you contact businesses from this list, follow the rules where you work, such as CAN-SPAM for email and do-not-call rules for phone calls.

# Actor input Schema

## `states` (type: `array`):

Which state registries to search. Leave empty for all four.

## `filedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Only businesses registered in this many days. The state files usually run a day behind, so use at least 2 for a daily schedule.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Words to look for in the business name, for example "roofing" or "dental". A filing matches if it contains any of them. In Connecticut the industry description is searched too. Leave empty for any name.

## `excludeKeywords` (type: `array`):

Skip filings whose name contains any of these words, for example "holdings" or "properties". Leave empty to skip nothing.

## `entityKinds` (type: `array`):

Only these kinds of business. Leave empty for all.

## `includeOutOfState` (type: `boolean`):

Companies formed elsewhere (often Delaware) that registered to do business in the state. Turn off to see only businesses formed in the state itself.

## `zipCodes` (type: `array`):

Full ZIP codes or the first digits, for example "80202" or "972" for the Portland area. Leave empty for any ZIP.

## `cities` (type: `array`):

Exact city names, for example "Denver". Not case-sensitive. Leave empty for any city.

## `naicsCodes` (type: `array`):

Industry code or its first digits, for example "2382" for building equipment contractors. Only Connecticut publishes this, so the other states are left out when you use it.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Remembers what earlier runs with the same filters returned and skips it. Use this with a daily schedule so each run brings only new businesses.

## `includeContacts` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the address on file and the registered agent's name. These can belong to private people, so they are off by default. Use them only in ways the law allows where you work.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

The most filings to return across all states. You are charged per filing, so this also caps what a run can cost.
