## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Play Reviews Scraper: all reviews with developer replies, any country

Get the reviews of any Android app on Google Play as clean JSON: rating, text, date, app version, thumbs up, and the developer's reply with its date when there is one. Paste the Play Store URL or the package name, pick language and country, choose newest, most relevant or by rating, and run. Built for product, support and research teams that need more than the first few hundred reviews: the Actor pages through Google's feed 100 at a time until your cap, up to 100,000 reviews per app in one run.

No login, no API key, no proxies. Google publishes no official API for other apps' reviews. This Actor reads the same endpoint the Play Store web client uses, which has been stable for years.

**Run it with the default input to see it work.** It returns the latest 500 English reviews of Spotify from the US store.

### What you get

One row per review:

| field | meaning |
|---|---|
| `app_id` | Android package name |
| `country`, `language` | store country and review language you asked for |
| `review_id` | Google's id, stable across runs, use it to detect new reviews |
| `rating` | 1 to 5 stars |
| `text` | full review text |
| `date` | ISO 8601 UTC |
| `thumbs_up` | helpful votes |
| `version` | app version the reviewer had installed |
| `developer_reply`, `developer_reply_date` | the developer's public answer and when it was posted, when present |
| `author` | public display name |
| `url` | link to the review |

Example row:

```json
{
  "app_id": "com.spotify.music",
  "country": "us",
  "language": "en",
  "review_id": "9200f29a-43f1-43f6-8920-47fdb2ed3a8c",
  "author": "Alex P.",
  "rating": 5,
  "text": "Best experience so far, the new widget is great.",
  "date": "2026-10-02T16:48:39+00:00",
  "thumbs_up": 12,
  "version": "9.1.88.2204",
  "developer_reply": null,
  "developer_reply_date": null,
  "url": "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.music&reviewId=9200f29a-43f1-43f6-8920-47fdb2ed3a8c"
}
```

### How to scrape Google Play reviews with this Actor

1. Open the Actor in the Apify Console and click Try for free. The input is prefilled with the Spotify Play Store URL.
2. Replace `apps` with the Play Store URLs or package names you want, one per line. The package name is the `id=` part of the URL, for example `com.whatsapp`.
3. Set `language` and `country`. They are independent: `language` picks the language of the reviews, `country` picks the store. Choose `sort` and set `maxReviewsPerApp` to the number you want to pay for.
4. Click Start. Rows appear in the Dataset tab during the run. Export as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the Apify API.
5. From code: `POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/datasignalslab~google-play-reviews-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN` with the same JSON input as the body.

### Input

| field | what it does |
|---|---|
| `apps` | Play Store URLs or package names, one per line |
| `language` | review language, for example `en`, `de`, `nl`. Default `en` |
| `country` | store country, for example `us`, `gb`, `in`. Default `us` |
| `sort` | `newest` (default), `relevant` or `rating` |
| `maxReviewsPerApp` | cap per app, default 500, max 100,000. Pages of 100 until the cap |
| `maxReviews` | hard stop across the run, 0 means no limit, also your budget cap |
| `minRating`, `maxRating` | keep only a star range, for example 1 to 2 for complaints |

Minimal input:

```json
{ "apps": ["com.spotify.music", "com.whatsapp"], "language": "en", "country": "us", "maxReviewsPerApp": 1000 }
```

Complaints only, German reviews from the German store:

```json
{ "apps": ["https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.music"], "language": "de", "country": "de", "maxRating": 2, "maxReviewsPerApp": 2000 }
```

Full history of one app with a budget cap:

```json
{ "apps": ["com.whatsapp"], "sort": "newest", "maxReviewsPerApp": 100000, "maxReviews": 50000 }
```

### Pricing

Pay per review returned: **$0.20 per 1,000 reviews**, charged only for rows that land in the dataset after your rating filter. No start fee. An app that is not found costs nothing. Apify's free monthly credit covers tens of thousands of reviews, so you can evaluate without paying.

Example: 10,000 reviews cost $2.00. The default run of 500 reviews costs $0.10. A daily schedule that picks up the 200 newest reviews of 5 apps is 1,000 reviews a day, about $6 a month.

#### More from DataSignals Lab

This Actor is one of the pay-per-result data Actors of [DataSignals Lab](https://datasignalslab.com): job listings per ATS platform and job board, app and company reviews, YouTube comments and transcripts, website contacts and tech stacks. Every Actor returns the same clean JSON style and charges only for rows that land in the dataset, so you can combine feeds without remapping fields. All Actors and prices are listed on [datasignalslab.com](https://datasignalslab.com).

### Use cases

- Product managers: complaints per release, by grouping 1 and 2 star reviews on `version` after a new build ships.
- Support teams: every review without a `developer_reply`, so nobody waits for an answer, and `developer_reply_date` to measure response time.
- Competitive intelligence: the reviews of three competitors side by side, same columns, same language and country.
- Researchers and NLP teams: tens of thousands of labelled texts per app, the star rating is the label, `thumbs_up` is a weight.
- Agencies building review dashboards for app publishers, with a scheduled run per client app.
- AI agents that answer "what are users complaining about this week" from live data through MCP.

For the Apple side use [App Store Reviews Scraper](https://apify.com/datasignalslab/app-store-reviews-scraper). The two share the same column names where the stores overlap.

### Google Play API alternative: how it compares

- Google has no public API for the reviews of apps you do not own. The Play Developer API only shows the reviews of your own apps. This Actor reads any app's public reviews.
- Several scrapers in the store stop at 150 or 300 reviews or ignore the country you asked for. This Actor pages through the feed 100 at a time until your cap, up to 100,000 per app, and sends `hl` and `gl` to Google exactly as you set `language` and `country`.
- Language and country are separate inputs, and `sort` has three modes. Developer reply, reply date, app version and thumbs up are in every row.
- The price is $0.20 per 1,000 reviews with no start fee. Cheaper options exist. The difference pays for the full pagination, the daily health check and the identical column names across our App Store and Google Play Actors.

### Limits

- One `language` and one `country` per run. For three languages, run the Actor three times or create three schedules. Each run returns the reviews Google serves for that combination.
- No date filter. For new reviews over time, schedule the Actor with `sort` set to `newest` and de-duplicate on `review_id`, which is stable across runs.
- `minRating` and `maxRating` are applied after Google returns the reviews. The Actor still pages through the feed to reach them, so a run for 1 star reviews only takes longer than a run for all ratings. You pay only for the rows that pass the filter.
- Review text and reply text are returned as Google serves them, without translation.
- No app metadata beyond the package name: no install count, no average score, no screenshots. Reviews only.
- Very popular apps have millions of reviews. `maxReviewsPerApp` stops at 100,000 per app per run and `maxReviews` caps the whole run, so a run cannot surprise you.
- Google's feed is an undocumented endpoint. If Google changes it, the Actor returns nothing rather than wrong data, and the daily health check alerts us the same morning.

### FAQ

#### Is it legal to scrape Google Play reviews?

The Actor reads only what Google Play shows to any visitor without an account: the review, the rating, the public display name and the developer's reply. Respect Google's terms of service and the privacy laws that apply to you, and do not use author names beyond the review itself. If you are unsure about your use case, ask a lawyer.

#### Do I need an API key or a Google account?

No. There is no Google login, no API key and no proxy setup. Paste the Play Store URL or package name and run.

#### Does the Google Play Reviews Scraper really return all reviews?

It returns as many as Google serves for your language and country, in pages of 100, until `maxReviewsPerApp` or `maxReviews` is reached or the feed ends. The cap per app is 100,000 per run. There is no hidden cut at 150 or 300.

#### How do I get reviews in another language or from another country?

Set `language` to the review language and `country` to the store. They are independent, so `language` set to `en` with `country` set to `in` gives English reviews from the Indian store. Run once per combination you need.

#### How much do 10,000 Google Play reviews cost?

$2.00. There is no start fee, and reviews outside your `minRating` to `maxRating` range are not charged.

#### Can I schedule it to track new reviews?

Yes. Create a schedule in the Apify Console, set `sort` to `newest` and `maxReviewsPerApp` a little above the number of reviews the app gets per interval, and skip any `review_id` you already stored.

#### Can an AI agent (MCP) call the Google Play Reviews Scraper?

Yes. Add the Apify MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT or another agent and the Actor shows up as a tool. The agent passes a package name and gets the rows back as JSON.

#### What happens when Google Play blocks or changes the feed?

The Actor runs from Apify's servers without a proxy because Google serves this feed freely. An app that cannot be read is logged and costs nothing. If the feed format changes, the run returns zero rows and our daily health check alerts us so the parser can be fixed.

### Integrations

- Apify API, including `run-sync-get-dataset-items` for one call that returns the rows.
- Schedules and webhooks from the Apify Console, for feeds and for triggering your own processing when a run finishes.
- Apify MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT and other agents call this Actor as a tool.
- Make, Zapier, n8n and Google Sheets through the Apify integrations, or CSV and Excel export from the Dataset tab.
