## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Audio Transcriber Pro – Whisper large-v3-turbo

High-accuracy transcription of **audio or video from direct URLs** with [faster-whisper](https://github.com/SYSTRAN/faster-whisper) **large-v3-turbo** on **CPU (int8)**, beam size 5 and VAD. The model is baked into the image for faster cold starts.

**Measured German WER (own bench, 2026-11-05):** ≈ **5.5 %** on FLEURS `de_de` (60 clips, 1375 words, int8); ≈ **8.5 %** on MLS German (60 clips). Close to AssemblyAI Universal-3.5 Pro (~4.9 % FLEURS DE) and better than many Whisper-small Store actors.

**No YouTube / TikTok / Instagram page URLs** – pass a direct file link. Failed files are `ERROR` rows and **never charged**.

For a cheaper / faster option see [`datvanu/audio-transcriber`](https://apify.com/datvanu/audio-transcriber) (tiny/base/small).

### Input

| Field | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `urls` | – | Direct http(s) links, max 50 |
| `model` | `large-v3-turbo` | Fixed |
| `language` | auto | e.g. `en`, `de` |
| `task` | `transcribe` | or `translate` |
| `includeSegments` | `true` | Timestamped `segments[]` |
| `beamSize` | `5` | Quality setting |
| `vadFilter` | `true` | Skip long silence |

Prefill: short public-domain Aesop fable (~46 s) from LibriVox / archive.org.

### Output

One dataset item per URL: `status`, `url`, `model`, `task`, `language`, `languageProbability`, `durationSecs`, `audioMinutes`, `text`, `segments[]`, `error`, `transcribedAt`.

### Pricing (PPE)

| Event | When |
|---|---|
| `audio-minute-pro` | started minute of audio (ceil) with large-v3-turbo |
| `apify-actor-start` | Actor start (platform standard) |

Failed files are never charged. Remove synthetic `apify-default-dataset-item` in Console.

### Memory

Default **4096 MB**. Raise to 8 GB for very long files if needed.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

Direct http(s) links to audio or video files (mp3, wav, ogg, m4a, mp4, webm, …). No YouTube/TikTok/Instagram page URLs. Max 50 URLs per run. Prefill is a short public-domain LibriVox clip (~46 s Aesop) for a cheap Store health check.

## `model` (type: `string`):

Fixed to Whisper large-v3-turbo (CPU int8). Measured ≈5.5% WER on FLEURS German (60 clips, beam 5, VAD).

## `language` (type: `string`):

ISO-639-1 code to force (e.g. en, de, fr). Leave empty to auto-detect.

## `task` (type: `string`):

Whisper task. translate always produces English text.

## `includeSegments` (type: `boolean`):

When true, each result includes a segments\[] array with start/end (seconds) and text.

## `beamSize` (type: `integer`):

Decoding beam size. Default 5 (quality setting used for WER measurements).

## `vadFilter` (type: `boolean`):

Silero VAD drops long silence before decoding.

## `maxFileBytes` (type: `integer`):

Refuse downloads larger than this (default 200 MB). Failed / oversized files are not charged.
