## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Amazon Best Sellers Tracker: Top 100 movers and new entries

**Amazon Best Sellers Tracker** takes a snapshot of the **Amazon Best Sellers Top 100** in any category and compares it with the previous run. You get **new entries**, **rank jumps**, **rank drops** and **drop-outs**, so you can spot **trending products** early. Run it on an Apify **Schedule** (for example daily) and get alerts in **Slack, Discord or any webhook**.

It works with any Best Sellers category or sub-category on **11 marketplaces**: amazon.com, .ca, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .it, .es, .co.jp, .com.au, .in and .com.mx.

### What it does

- Collects the full **Top 100 bestsellers** of each category URL (both pages of the list)
- Compares ranks with the last run and labels each product: `new_entry`, `rank_up`, `rank_down`, `no_change`, `dropped_out` (and `first_seen` on the first run)
- Returns `previousRank` and `change` (positive = climbed)
- Sends one alert message per run for **new entries** and **big rank jumps** (default: 10+ positions)
- Adds title, price, rating, review count and image for the products Amazon renders on the page (about 60 of 100; the rest come with ASIN, rank and URL)
- Mix categories from different marketplaces in one run

### Who it's for

- **Product researchers and FBA sellers** looking for rising products before they saturate
- **Brands** watching their category and competitors' Best Sellers rank
- **Analysts and investors** building a daily Best Sellers history for a category
- **Content and affiliate sites** that publish "trending on Amazon" lists

### Why this Actor

- **Movers, not just a list.** Most Amazon bestsellers scrapers return today's Top 100 only. This tracker keeps the previous snapshot in your Apify account and tells you what changed, including products that dropped out.
- **Alerts built in.** Paste a Slack or Discord webhook; no extra automation tools needed.
- **Pay only for complete snapshots.** A category is charged only when both pages (ranks 1-100) loaded. Incomplete snapshots are skipped, not charged, and don't overwrite your history, so you get no fake "dropped out" events from a failed page.
- **Local data.** The proxy country is matched to each URL's marketplace automatically.
- **Low, flat price.** $0.02 per category per run for 100 ranked products.

### How to use

1. On Amazon, open a Best Sellers category, e.g. *Best Sellers in Kitchen & Dining*, and copy the URL. Sub-categories work too.
2. Paste one or more URLs into **Best Sellers category URLs**.
3. Optional: paste a Slack or Discord **webhook URL** and set **Alert when a product climbs at least** (default 10 positions).
4. Click **Start**. The first run records the starting Top 100 (`first_seen`).
5. Open **Schedules** in Apify Console and run it daily. Each later run reports movers.

🆕 New in Kitchen & Dining: #23 Stainless Steel Tumbler 40 oz ...
🚀 Kitchen & Dining: #14 → #1 Owala FreeSip Stainless Steel Water Bottle 24 oz Denim
```
### Pricing
Pay-per-event. You pay per complete Top 100 snapshot:
| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Category Top 100 checked | $0.02 |
| Actor start | $0.00005 per GB of memory, once per run |
**Worked example.** 10 categories checked daily for 30 days: 10 x 30 = 300 snapshots x $0.02 = **$6.00 per month** for 30,000 ranked rows. Failed or incomplete snapshots cost nothing.
The run stops by itself when it reaches the maximum charge you set for the run.
### API and integrations
**Python** (`pip install apify-client`):
```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient

client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("deanko/amazon-bestseller-tracker").call(run_input={
    "categoryUrls": ["https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Kitchen-Dining/zgbs/kitchen"],
    "minRankJump": 10,
})
for row in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    if row["alert"]:
        print(row["event"], row["rank"], row.get("title"))
```
**JavaScript / Node.js** (`npm install apify-client`):
```js
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';

const client = new ApifyClient({ token: '<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>' });
const run = await client.actor('deanko/amazon-bestseller-tracker').call({
    categoryUrls: ['https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Kitchen-Dining/zgbs/kitchen'],
    onlyChanges: true,
});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.log(items.filter((r) => r.event === 'new_entry'));
```
Send results to Google Sheets, Make, Zapier or n8n from the **Integrations** tab.
### FAQ
**Is it legal to scrape Amazon Best Sellers?**
The Actor reads only the public Best Sellers pages. It doesn't log in and collects no personal data. You are responsible for using the data lawfully and in line with the terms that apply to you.
**Is this the same as the Best Sellers Rank (BSR) on a product page?**
No. `rank` is the product's position in the Best Sellers list you track (1-100). The BSR number on product pages isn't collected.
**Why do some products have no title or price?**
Amazon renders details for about 60 of the 100 products in the page HTML; the rest load later in the browser. Those rows still have `asin`, `rank` and `url`. Use the **Amazon Product Scraper** (`deanko/amazon-product-scraper`) with these ASINs for full details.
**Does it cover New Releases or Movers & Shakers lists?**
It is built and tested for Best Sellers category pages. Other list types aren't supported.
**Where is history stored?**
In a key-value store named `amazon-bestseller-tracker` in your own Apify account, per tracker name.
**Why are there no alerts on the first run?**
The first run only records the starting Top 100. Changes are reported from the second run.
### Limitations
- About 40 of 100 products come with ASIN, rank and URL only.
- History starts from your first run.
- Only Best Sellers lists; no BSR from product pages, no sales estimates.
- `dropped_out` rows don't trigger alerts; filter them in the dataset if you need them.
# Actor input Schema
## `categoryUrls` (type: `array`):
Amazon Best Sellers category pages, e.g. `https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Kitchen-Dining/zgbs/kitchen`. Sub-categories work too. Any of the 11 supported marketplaces (.com, .ca, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .it, .es, .co.jp, .com.au, .in, .com.mx); the marketplace is read from each URL. Each complete Top 100 snapshot is one billable category check.
## `minRankJump` (type: `integer`):
New entries to the Top 100 always alert. 0 = only new-entry alerts.
## `webhookUrl` (type: `string`):
Optional. Paste a Slack incoming-webhook URL, a Discord webhook URL or any HTTPS endpoint. One message per run lists all alerts. The JSON body has `text` (Slack), `content` (Discord) and the full `alerts` array.
## `onlyChanges` (type: `boolean`):
If on, products whose rank did not change (and the first snapshot) are not written to the dataset.
## `trackerName` (type: `string`):
Rank history is stored per tracker name in your Apify account and survives between runs. Use different names for separate watchlists.
## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):
Residential proxy recommended; Amazon blocks datacenter IPs quickly. Country is matched to each URL's marketplace automatically.
