## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Amazon Keyword Rank Tracker: organic and sponsored ASIN rank

**Amazon Keyword Rank Tracker** shows where your products (and your competitors') rank in Amazon search for the keywords that matter. It records the **organic rank** and the **sponsored (ad) position** of each ASIN, keeps **rank history** between runs, and sends **alerts to Slack, Discord or any webhook** when ranks move.

Run it on an Apify **Schedule** (for example daily) to get Amazon keyword rank tracking without a monthly SaaS subscription.

### What it does

For every keyword it reads Amazon's search results pages (1 to 7 pages) and, for each ASIN you track:

- **Organic rank** across all pages checked (sponsored results don't count toward organic rank)
- **Sponsored position**, recorded separately
- **Page number** where the ASIN appears
- **Rank change** since the last run, **best rank ever**, and events: entered, dropped out, moved up or down
- Title, price, rating and review count of the product in the results
- Works on **11 marketplaces**: amazon.com, .ca, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .it, .es, .co.jp, .com.au, .in, .com.mx

Leave the ASIN list empty to save a **full snapshot**: the organic rank of every product found for the keyword.

### Who it's for

- **Amazon sellers and brands**: check whether listing optimization (Amazon SEO) or a PPC push moved you up for your main keywords.
- **Agencies**: daily keyword rank reports for many clients, one `trackerName` per client.
- **PPC managers**: see organic and sponsored positions side by side.
- **Product researchers**: watch who holds the top spots in a niche and how fast it changes.

### Why this Actor

- **Organic vs sponsored, separated.** Ads are counted in their own sequence, so the organic rank isn't inflated by sponsored slots.
- **History and alerts built in.** Rank history is stored in your Apify account; each run returns `previousRank`, `change` and `bestRank`, and sends one alert message per run.
- **No false drop-outs.** If a results page fails to load, ranks after the gap would be wrong, so the Actor uses only pages that loaded in order from page 1. A product isn't reported as "dropped out" unless every requested page was checked.
- **Local results.** Search results differ by country, so the proxy country is pinned to the marketplace you choose.
- **Simple pricing.** $0.005 per search page checked, however many ASINs you track on that page.

### How to use

1. Add **keywords**, e.g. `yoga mat`.
2. Add the **ASINs** to track (yours and competitors') or leave empty for a full snapshot.
3. Pick the **Marketplace** and how many **search pages** to check per keyword (default 3).
4. Optional: paste a Slack or Discord **webhook URL** and set **Alert when rank moves by at least** (default 5 positions).
5. Click **Start**. The first run records starting ranks (`first_seen`).
6. Open **Schedules** in Apify Console and run it daily.

Example input:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["yoga mat", "thick yoga mat"],
  "asins": ["B01LP0U5X0", "B07H9PZDQW"],
"yoga mat": 🔼 B01LP0U5X0 #9 → #2 Amazon Basics Extra Thick Exercise Yoga Mat ...
"yoga mat": 🆕 B07H9PZDQW entered at #14 Gaiam Thick Yoga Mat ...
```

### Pricing

Pay-per-event. You pay per Amazon search results page checked:

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Search page checked | $0.005 |
| Actor start | $0.00005 per GB of memory, once per run |

Tracked ASINs are free: 1 ASIN or 50 ASINs on the same pages cost the same.

**Worked example.** 5 keywords x 3 pages = 15 search pages = **$0.075 per run**. Run daily for 30 days: **$2.25 per month**. Every requested page is charged, so keep `maxPages` at what you need.

The run stops by itself when it reaches the maximum charge you set for the run.

### API and integrations

**Python** (`pip install apify-client`):

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("deanko/amazon-keyword-rank-tracker").call(run_input={
    "keywords": ["yoga mat"],
    "asins": ["B01LP0U5X0"],
    "maxPages": 3,
})
for row in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(row["keyword"], row["asin"], row["rank"], row["change"])
```

**JavaScript / Node.js** (`npm install apify-client`):

```js
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: '<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>' });
const run = await client.actor('deanko/amazon-keyword-rank-tracker').call({
    keywords: ['yoga mat', 'thick yoga mat'],
    asins: ['B01LP0U5X0'],
    marketplace: 'com',
});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.table(items.map(({ keyword, asin, rank, sponsoredRank }) => ({ keyword, asin, rank, sponsoredRank })));
```

Push results to Google Sheets, Looker Studio (via Sheets), Make, Zapier or n8n from the **Integrations** tab.

### FAQ

**Is it legal to track Amazon search rankings?**
The Actor reads only public Amazon search results pages. It doesn't log in and collects no personal data. You are responsible for using the data lawfully and in line with the terms that apply to you.

**Why is my rank different from what I see in my browser?**
Amazon personalizes results by location, history and time. The Actor searches as a logged-out shopper in the marketplace's country. Treat moves of 1-2 positions as noise; look at the trend.

**Does it give search volume or reverse-ASIN keywords?**
No. It tracks ranks for the keywords you provide. It doesn't estimate search volume.

**How deep can it check?**
Up to 7 search pages per keyword. Amazon usually shows 16-60 results per page.

**Where is the rank history stored?**
In a key-value store named `amazon-keyword-rank-tracker` in your own Apify account, per tracker name and marketplace.

**What does `not_found` mean?**
The ASIN wasn't in the organic results of the pages checked, and wasn't found last time either. Increase `maxPages` to look deeper.

### Limitations

- Ranks come from a single logged-out search per keyword and run, so small changes can be noise.
- History starts at your first run.
- No search volume, no reverse-ASIN lookup, no Best Sellers Rank (BSR).
- Turn on **Output only changes** to skip `no_change` and `not_found` rows.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Amazon search keywords to track, e.g. `yoga mat`. Each keyword is checked across the number of search pages set below.

## `asins` (type: `array`):

ASINs or product URLs whose rank you want to follow, yours and competitors'. Leave empty to record the organic rank of every product found (a full snapshot of the results).

## `marketplace` (type: `string`):

Amazon store to check. Search results differ by country, so the proxy country is matched to the marketplace automatically.

## `maxPages` (type: `integer`):

How deep to look per keyword. Each page has roughly 16-60 results and is one billable search page. 3 pages usually covers the top 100-150 organic results.

## `alertOnRankChange` (type: `integer`):

Alert when an ASIN's organic rank moves by at least this many positions. Entering or dropping out of the checked pages always alerts. 0 = only enter/drop-out alerts.

## `webhookUrl` (type: `string`):

Optional. Paste a Slack incoming-webhook URL, a Discord webhook URL or any HTTPS endpoint. One message per run lists all alerts. The JSON body has `text` (Slack), `content` (Discord) and the full `alerts` array.

## `onlyChanges` (type: `boolean`):

If on, unchanged and not-found rows are not written to the dataset.

## `trackerName` (type: `string`):

Rank history is stored per tracker name in your Apify account and survives between runs. Use one name per client or project.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Residential proxy recommended; Amazon blocks datacenter IPs quickly. Country is matched to the marketplace automatically.
