## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

Collected 2026-10-18 (business type "plumber" in "Denver, CO", the form's example).

### What you get

- **One lead per business** Google Maps lists for your business type in your city: Google's own ranking first, then (when you ask for more) every ZIP code inside the city and a map grid, so a search isn't stuck at the ~200 places one Google Maps query shows. The city's own boundary is used, so "Denver, CO" doesn't spill into its suburbs.
- **Google Maps fields**: name, category and all categories, full address and its parts, phone (as shown and in international format), website and domain, rating, review count, opening hours, coordinates, time zone, place ID, CID and the Google Maps link. Rows come straight from the search results (no place page per business), so leads land fast: the first one 2-6 seconds after you press Start.
- **Website contacts, included**: each business website (home page plus up to 2 contact pages) is read for `emails`, `phones`, `whatsapps` and social profiles (`facebooks`, `instagrams`, `linkedIns`, `twitters`, `youtubes`, `tiktoks`, `pinterests`, `yelps`...). Leads with an email are also copied to a separate **📧 Places with emails** dataset, ready to export to a CRM or mail tool.
- **Lead filters before you pay**: only leads with an email, with a website, or with a phone; category words, minimum rating, name match, skip closed businesses. A lead a filter leaves out is never charged. With *Only leads with an email* on, the search keeps reading until it has your number of leads (or the city runs out).

How many businesses have an email depends on the trade. Measured on 2026-10-18: Denver plumbers 20 of 50 with an email (33 with an email, phone or social profile from the website), Houston electricians 110 of 300, Dallas HVAC contractors 63 of 200. With *Only leads with an email* on, 100 Phoenix roofing contractors with an email took 71 seconds.

### Pricing

Pay per lead, no start fee, website contacts included:

- **$0.69 per 1,000 leads** on the Starter plan ($0.79 Free, $0.59 Scale, $0.45 Business).

Each business is charged once per run, even when several business types find it. Leads that your filters leave out are not charged. So 1,000 Denver plumbers with emails and socials cost $0.69 on Starter.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| 🏷️ Business types or keywords | What you'd type in Google Maps (`plumber`, `roofing contractor`, `dentist`); each is searched in the city |
| 📍 City or area | City, neighborhood, ZIP, state or country |
| 💯 Number of leads per business type | Cap per business type (empty = every business in the area) |
| 📧 Emails and social profiles from websites | On by default and included in the price; off = Google Maps fields only |
| 📧 Only leads with an email / 🌐 with a website / 📞 with a phone | Lead filters; leads left out are not charged |
| 🎛️ More filters | Categories, minimum rating, name match, skip closed |
| 🌍 Language and location by parts / 🛰️ Custom search area | Language; country, city, state, county, postal code; or a GeoJSON polygon / point + radius |
| 🔗 Google Maps links | Maps searches (or places) you already have |

The input keys follow compass/crawler-google-places (`searchStringsArray`, `locationQuery`, `maxCrawledPlacesPerSearch`, `scrapeContacts`, `startUrls`...), and the lead filters are `onlyWithEmail`, `onlyWithWebsite` and `onlyWithPhone`. Example API input:

```json
{
  "searchStringsArray": ["plumber", "electrician"],
  "locationQuery": "Denver, CO",
  "maxCrawledPlacesPerSearch": 500,
  "onlyWithEmail": true
}
```

### Output

Views: **📇 Leads** first (business, category, phone, emails, website, address, city, rating, reviews, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google Maps link, search), then **📊 Overview**, **📈 Stats**, **📍 Location** and **📧 Contacts**.

Fields, in row order: `title`, `subTitle`, `description`, `categoryName`, `address`, `neighborhood`, `street`, `city`, `postalCode`, `state`, `countryCode`, `website`, `phone`, `phoneUnformatted`, `location`, `totalScore`, `permanentlyClosed`, `temporarilyClosed`, `placeId`, `categories`, `fid`, `cid`, `reviewsCount`, `imagesCount`, `reserveTableUrl`, `googleFoodUrl`, `hotelStars`, `hotelDescription`, `checkInDate`, `checkOutDate`, `hotelPrice`, `hotelAds`, `hotelAmenities`, `openingHours`, `openingHoursStatus`, `wasOpenAtScrapeTime`, `additionalOpeningHours`, `additionalInfo`, `gasPrices`, `url`, `language`, `imageUrl`, `imageUrls`, `kgmid`, `businessProfileId`, `tableReservationLinks`, `tableReservationProviders`, `restaurantData`, `orderBy`, `bookingLinks`, `ownerName`, `ownerId`, `ownerProfileUrl`, `domain`, `timezone`, `emails`, `phones`, `phonesUncertain`, `whatsapps`, `linkedIns`, `twitters`, `instagrams`, `facebooks`, `youtubes`, `tiktoks`, `pinterests`, `discords`, `yelps`, `tripadvisors`, `searchString`, `rank`, `searchPageUrl`, `inputStartUrl`, `inputPlaceId`, `isAdvertisement`, `scrapedAt`.

`phonesUncertain` holds phone-like numbers from the page text (less certain than `phones`). Emails are the addresses the website itself shows; they are not verified by sending mail. Service-area businesses (many plumbers, cleaners, contractors) hide their street address on Google Maps, so `address` is empty for them.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchStringsArray` (type: `array`):

The kind of business you want leads for, as you would type it in Google Maps, e.g. <strong>plumber</strong>, <strong>roofing contractor</strong> or <strong>dentist</strong>. Each one is searched in the city or area below. One may name its own place (<strong>pizza in Austin, TX</strong>).

## `locationQuery` (type: `string`):

City, neighborhood, ZIP code, state or country, e.g. <strong>Denver, CO</strong>, <strong>Texas</strong> or <strong>Germany</strong>. Leads stay inside its own boundary (a city search doesn't spill into its suburbs); large areas are searched ZIP code by ZIP code and tile by tile automatically.

## `maxCrawledPlacesPerSearch` (type: `integer`):

Leads each business type returns at most, e.g. 500. Empty = every business Google Maps has for it in the area.

## `scrapeContacts` (type: `boolean`):

On (included in the lead price): reads each business's website (home page plus up to 2 contact pages) for emails, phones and Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, TikTok and other profiles. Off: Google Maps fields only, a little faster.

## `onlyWithEmail` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only businesses whose website gave at least one email. Leads without one are left out and not charged; the search reads further until it has your number of leads (or runs out).

## `onlyWithWebsite` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only businesses that list a website on Google Maps. Leads left out are not charged.

## `onlyWithPhone` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only businesses that list a phone number on Google Maps. Leads left out are not charged.

## `categoryFilterWords` (type: `array`):

Keep only places with a category containing one of these words, e.g. <strong>dentist</strong>, <strong>orthodontist</strong>. Empty = every category. Places left out are not charged.

## `placeMinimumStars` (type: `string`):

Keep only places rated at least this. Places without a rating are left out when this is set.

## `searchMatching` (type: `string`):

Keep only places whose name contains the search term, or is exactly the search term.

## `skipClosedPlaces` (type: `boolean`):

Leave out places marked temporarily or permanently closed.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Language of names, categories, hours and reviews, as Google Maps shows them.

## `countryCode` (type: `string`):

Used with the fields below when 📍 Location is empty; also sets the Google country, e.g. <strong>de</strong>. Two letters.

## `city` (type: `string`):

e.g. <strong>Pittsburgh</strong>.

## `state` (type: `string`):

e.g. <strong>Massachusetts</strong>.

## `county` (type: `string`):

e.g. <strong>King County</strong>.

## `postalCode` (type: `string`):

e.g. <strong>10001</strong>. Combine with 🗺️ Country.

## `customGeolocation` (type: `object`):

A GeoJSON Polygon or MultiPolygon (\[longitude, latitude] order), or a Point with <code>radiusKm</code>. Overrides the location. Only places inside are kept.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Search links (<code>https://www.google.com/maps/search/plumber/@39.74,-104.99,12z</code>) run as one more business type. Place links (<code>https://www.google.com/maps/place/...</code>, <code>maps.app.goo.gl/...</code>) work too.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Leave as is: Apify datacenter proxy works for Google Maps. A call every datacenter IP refused is retried once on a residential IP.
