## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## News & Media Monitor – Google News + GDELT Mentions

Track **news mentions** of your brand, competitors, products or any topic across **Google News** (13 country editions) and, optionally, the **GDELT** global news database (65+ languages). Results are de-duplicated across feeds and editions, and the **only-new** mode turns it into a daily media alert.

Built for PR and comms teams, brand monitoring, competitor tracking, investor research and journalists.

- **Free public sources:** Google News RSS search feeds and GDELT's open news API.
- **Google search operators work:** `Tesla OR Rivian`, `"Acme Corp" -jobs`, `site:reuters.com`.
- **Clean records:** headline (outlet suffix removed), outlet, outlet site, link, publish time (UTC), keyword, edition or language and country.
- **One story, one row:** the same headline from the same outlet is merged across editions and feeds.
- **Exclude outlets** you don't care about (e.g. press-release wires).

### Input

```json
{"keywords": ["Apify", "\"web scraping\" -jobs"], "editions": ["US", "GB"], "withinDays": 7, "includeGdelt": false, "onlyNew": true}
```

| Field | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `keywords` | – | Up to 100 |
| `exactPhrase` | true | Multi-word keywords as exact phrases |
| `editions` | US | US, GB, CA, AU, IN, DE, FR, ES, MX, BR, IT, NL, JP |
| `withinDays` | 7 | 1–30 |
| `includeGdelt` | false | Global coverage; GDELT limits requests to one per 5 seconds and is best effort |
| `excludeSources` | – | Outlet names or domains |
| `onlyNew` | false | **Turn on for daily alerts** |

### Output

```json
{
  "keyword": "Shopify",
  "title": "Shopify Stock Forecast: SHOP Holds C$223 Support as Its AI Checkout Push Grows",
  "source": "TradingKey",
  "sourceUrl": "https://www.tradingkey.com",
  "url": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/…",
  "publishedAt": "2026-11-01T13:05:07Z",
  "provider": "google-news",
  "edition": "US",
  "language": "en-US",
  "country": null,
  "storyId": "3f9c…",
  "foundAt": "2026-11-01T20:30:00Z"
}
```

Google News links go through Google's redirect to the article.

### Pricing (pay per event + usage)

| Event | Price | When |
|---|---|---|
| `apify-actor-start` | $0.001 | Once per run |
| `article` | $0.0004 | One de-duplicated article ($0.40 per 1,000) |
| `query` | $0.0003 | Each keyword searched in one edition (or in GDELT) |

Example: a daily alert for 5 brands in 2 editions with 20 new articles ≈ $0.012 a day. Plus Apify platform usage, typically under $0.001 per run.
