## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Google Trends Trending Now Scraper

Google Trends Trending Now Scraper reads the Trending now list of Google Trends for any of 118 countries or a US state and returns one row per trending search: its search volume, growth, start and end time, categories, the related searches Google groups under it and the news articles shown next to it. Pick the countries and a time window, then click **Start**. It covers only what is trending; search interest over time for keywords of your own is not part of it. It costs $0.30 per 1,000 trends on the Free plan ($0.15 on Business), and the $5 of monthly credit in Apify's Free plan covers about 16,000 trends.

### What data does it return?

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `title` | The trending search as Google shows it, in the language people searched in: `fda chlorthalidone dissolution testing recall` in the United States, `ソフトバンク 対 オリックス` in Japan. |
| `rank` | Position in Google's list for that place, 1 being the top. It keeps Google's position after your filters and sorting. |
| `geo`, `country` | Country code (`US`) or region code (`US-CA`), and the country's name. |
| `searchVolume`, `searchVolumeText` | Search volume as the lower bound of Google's band, once as a number (`200000`) and once as Google writes it (`200K+`). |
| `increasePercent` | Growth in searches in percent, as Google shows it. `1000` is the highest value Google gives. |
| `startedAt`, `endedAt` | When the trend started and when Google marked it as ended, in UTC. `endedAt` is `null` while the trend is active. |
| `active`, `durationHours` | `true` until Google marks the trend as ended, and how many hours it has lasted so far. |
| `categories` | Google's categories for the trend, such as `Health` or `Sports`. Most trends have one, some two or three. |
| `relatedQueries` | The searches Google groups into the trend, always starting with the title itself. |
| `newsArticles` | Articles Google shows next to the trend, 3 by default and up to 10, each with `title`, `url`, `source`, `publishedAt` and `image`. |
| `exploreUrl`, `trendingUrl` | The trend in Google Trends Explore for the past 7 days in its place, and the Trending now page it came from. |
| `timeWindowHours` | The window the list was read for: `4`, `24`, `48` or `168` hours. |
| `key`, `scrapedAt` | The place code and the title in lower case, joined by a colon (`US:fda chlorthalidone dissolution testing recall`), which the new-only mode uses, and when the list was read. |

### How to scrape Google Trends trending searches

1. Pick one or more **Countries**. Each country is a separate list, so ten countries give ten lists in one run.
2. For a US state, add its code under **Regions (optional)**, for example `US-CA` for California or `US-TX` for Texas.
3. Choose the **Time window**: the past 4 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours or 7 days, as on the Trending now page.
4. Narrow the list if you need to: **Categories**, **Keywords (any of)**, which are matched in the title and the related queries, **Minimum search volume** and **Active trends only**. **Sort by** together with **Maximum trends per country** gives a top N for each country.
5. Click **Start**. The rows arrive in the **Output** tab country by country and export as CSV, Excel or JSON.

Through the API, categories go by Google's number (`17` is Sports) or by their English name:

```json
{
  "countries": ["US", "GB", "DE"],
  "timeWindow": "24",
  "categories": ["17"],
  "sortBy": "searchVolume",
  "maxTrendsPerCountry": 20,
  "maxNewsPerTrend": 3
}
```

### Trend alerts

For alerts, schedule the run every hour with **Return only trends new since the last run** turned on and a **Watch name**, or save it as a task, which keeps a snapshot of its own. A trend is known by its place and title (`key`). Once it has been returned, it is held back for 7 days, so a story that stays on the list for two days reaches you once. With **Keywords (any of)** filled in, the schedule becomes an alert for a brand, a team or a product.

### How much does it cost to scrape Google Trends trending searches?

| | Free plan | Starter | Scale | Business |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 trends | $0.30 | $0.24 | $0.195 | $0.15 |

You pay only for the events in the table. There is no start fee, and compute time and proxies are included.

On 27 September 2026 the 24-hour lists of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Spain held 1,884 trends together; reading all of them costs $0.5652 on the Free plan and $0.2826 on Business. News articles are part of the trend's price. Trends removed by a filter and trends held back in new-only mode are not charged.

### Limits

- The length of the list changes by country and by hour. Between 27 and 29 September 2026 the United States list for the past 24 hours held between 244 and 420 trends; on 27 September the United Kingdom had 275, Germany 203 and Japan 121.
- Search volume is a band and no exact count: `2K+` becomes `2000`. In the ten-country run above the bands went from `100+` to `1M+`.
- Growth stops at `1000`. In the same run 880 of the 1,884 trends had exactly that value, so it cannot order the fastest risers among themselves.
- Most trends in a 24-hour list have already ended: 1,487 of those 1,884 were marked as ended. **Active trends only** keeps the rest.
- `relatedQueries` often holds the title alone; that was the case for 1,381 of the 1,884 trends.
- Titles are in the language people searched in, while categories and country names are in English.
- By default a run returns up to 1,000 trends in total, set by **Maximum trends**; the form starts at 20.
- If Google does not answer for a country, the run goes on with the others and the `SUMMARY` record lists that country with the HTTP status.

### FAQ

#### Is it legal to scrape Google Trends?

Trending now is a public Google page that shows aggregated, anonymous search counts, so no personal data is involved. The actor reads the same data the page loads, with one request per country and one per trend for its news. News headlines and images belong to their publishers, and you are responsible for how you use the results.

#### Does it return interest over time for my own keywords?

No. It returns the searches Google lists as trending. Each row's `exploreUrl` opens the trend in Google Trends Explore, where its chart for the past 7 days is.

#### Which categories can I filter by?

The 19 categories of the Trending now page: Autos and Vehicles, Beauty and Fashion, Business and Finance, Climate, Entertainment, Food and Drink, Games, Health, Hobbies and Leisure, Jobs and Education, Law and Government, Other, Pets and Animals, Politics, Science, Shopping, Sports, Technology, and Travel and Transportation. A trend is kept when any of its categories is selected.
