## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Reviews Tracker: New Reviews + Release Radar

Get **App Store reviews for any iPhone or iPad app** (yours or a competitor's): star rating, title, review text, **app version**, date and helpful votes. Check one country or sweep **all 175 App Store countries** in one run.

Two features most review scrapers don't have:

- **New-review tracking.** Every review is marked `isNew` against the previous run. Turn on **Output only new reviews**, schedule a daily run and you get (and pay for) only the reviews posted since yesterday.
- **Release radar.** Each run's `OUTPUT` shows the average rating per **app version** and per country. If the newest version rates clearly lower than the one before, you get an alert, so a bad release shows up within a day.

Data comes from **Apple's official public review feed** (the customer-reviews RSS that Apple publishes for every app). There is no login, no browser and no scraping of web pages, so runs are fast and cheap: 480 reviews from 2 apps in 4 countries took 18 requests.

### What you can use it for

- **Release monitoring.** Schedule a daily run on your own app with the 1- and 2-star filter and get every new complaint, tagged with the version that caused it.
- **Competitor research.** Read what users love and hate about competing apps, in every market they sell in.
- **Bug and crash triage.** Use the keyword filter (`crash`, `login`, `subscription`, `refund`) to send only matching reviews to your team.
- **Feeding AI agents and dashboards.** Every row has the same fields. Send them to Google Sheets, Slack or a webhook with Apify integrations, or call the Actor from an AI agent through Apify's MCP server (mcp.apify.com).

### How to use it

1. Add apps to **Apps**: App Store URLs, app IDs (`389801252` or `id389801252`) or bundle IDs (`com.burbn.instagram`).
2. Pick **Countries**: two-letter codes such as `us`, `gb`, `de` or `in`, or `all` to sweep every storefront.
3. Optional: filter by **star rating** or **keywords**, and set **Max reviews per country** (up to 500, Apple's limit).
4. Start the run. To monitor, create a schedule and turn on **Output only new reviews**.

### Input example

```json
{
    "apps": ["https://apps.apple.com/us/app/duolingo-language-lessons/id570060128", "com.burbn.instagram"],
    "countries": ["us", "gb", "de", "in"],
    "maxReviewsPerCountry": 100,
    "ratings": ["1", "2"],
    "keywords": ["crash", "bug"],
    "onlyNewReviews": true
}
```

### Output example

One row per review, newest first:

```json
{
    "appId": "570060128",
    "appName": "Duolingo: Learn Languages",
    "country": "us",
    "reviewId": "14692591552",
    "rating": 2,
    "title": "Hearts system",
    "text": "The new update made lessons crash twice today...",
    "appVersion": "7.145.0",
    "date": "2026-10-21T09:52:04Z",
    "helpfulVotes": 3,
    "totalVotes": 4,
    "authorName": null,
    "isNew": true,
    "appUrl": "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id570060128"
}
```

The run's `OUTPUT` record (Storage > Key-value store) holds the release radar for each app:

```json
{
    "appName": "Instagram",
    "reviewsFetched": 240,
    "newReviews": 12,
    "releaseRadar": {
        "avgRating": 2.62,
        "byVersion": [
            {"version": "452.0.0", "reviews": 150, "avgRating": 2.85, "oneStarShare": 0.44},
            {"version": "451.0.0", "reviews": 88, "avgRating": 2.28, "oneStarShare": 0.55}
        ],
        "byCountry": {"us": {"reviews": 60, "avgRating": 2.4, "oneStarShare": 0.5}},
        "alert": null
    }
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per review: **$0.20 per 1,000 reviews** saved to the dataset, after your filters, plus $0.002 per run. Error rows are free. With **Output only new reviews** on, a daily run pays only for that day's new reviews.

### Good to know

- **500 per country.** Apple's feed returns the 500 newest reviews per country (10 pages of 50). Sweep several countries to collect more.
- **Reviewer nicknames** are personal data in many countries, so they are left out by default. Turn on **Include reviewer nicknames** only if you need them.
- **Storefronts without the app** (or without reviews) are skipped at no cost.
- Ratings without written reviews are not in Apple's feed; the App Store average shown on the app page also counts those.

### FAQ

**Is this allowed?** The Actor reads Apple's public RSS feed of customer reviews, which Apple publishes for any app. Use the data in line with the laws that apply to you, such as GDPR for EU reviewers.

**Can I track many apps?** Yes. Add as many as you like; each app keeps its own history of seen reviews in the key-value store named in **State store name**.

**Can an AI agent use it?** Yes. Add this Actor to Apify's MCP server (mcp.apify.com) and it becomes a tool for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients, for example "summarise this week's 1-star reviews of my app and group them by version".

This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple. App Store is a trademark of Apple Inc.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

One app per line: an App Store URL (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/instagram/id389801252), an app ID (389801252 or id389801252) or a bundle ID (com.burbn.instagram). Your own apps or competitors'.

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter country codes (us, gb, de, fr, in, br...). Enter all to sweep every storefront: storefronts without the app or without reviews are skipped for free.

## `maxReviewsPerCountry` (type: `integer`):

Apple's feed serves the 500 newest reviews per country. Lower this to keep runs small.

## `onlyNewReviews` (type: `boolean`):

Only output reviews that were not seen in a previous run. The first run outputs everything it finds. Best with a daily schedule: you then pay only for new reviews.

## `ratings` (type: `array`):

Leave empty for all. Pick 1 and 2 to collect only complaints.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Only output reviews whose title or text contains one of these words (case-insensitive), for example crash, login, refund.

## `includeAuthorName` (type: `boolean`):

Reviewer nicknames are personal data in many countries. They are left out unless you need them.

## `trackChanges` (type: `boolean`):

Keep the IDs of seen reviews in a named key-value store, so the next run can mark new reviews.

## `stateStoreName` (type: `string`):

Use a different name to keep separate histories, for example one per client.

```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
One row per review, newest first, with app version and whether it is new since the last run.
## `summary` (type: `string`):
Per app: reviews fetched, new reviews, average rating per version and per country, and any rating alert.
