## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Full-Text Search — Filings & Exhibits Lookup

Full-text search across **35M+ SEC EDGAR filings and exhibits** (10-K,
10-Q, 8-K, S-1, DEF 14A, Form 4, etc.) filed since 2001. The official
SEC EDGAR full-text search API, normalized for AI agents, due
diligence, ESG research, and quantitative finance.

### What you get

Each record is one SEC EDGAR hit with **20+ denormalized fields**:

- `cik` (10-digit, leading-zero stripped), `ticker` (primary),
  `company_name` (cleaned from display_names)
- `form` (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, ...), `file_date`, `period_ending`
- `accession_number` (parsed from `_id`), `file_url`
  (`https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/{cik}/{accession}/{file}`)
- `file_type` (e.g. `EX-21.1`, `10-K`, `8-K`), `file_description`
- `inc_state`, `biz_state`, `biz_location`, `sic`, `file_num`,
  `film_num`, `sequence`
- `score` (relevance from Elasticsearch)
- `fetched_at`

### Input

| `date_range` | string | `last_year` | Preset: `last_30_days`, `last_90_days`, `last_year`, `last_5_years`, `2024`, `ytd2024`, `custom`. |

| `sort` | enum | `score` | `score` | `file_date_desc` | `file_date_asc` | `period_ending_desc`. |
| `max_results` | int (1-200) | `50` | Maximum hits returned. SEC caps at 10/page; we paginate. |

### Pricing (pay-per-event)

- **Per run start**: $0.0001 USD.
- **Per record**: $0.0005 USD.
- **Free**: 5 first results per month.

### Limits

- Source: SEC EDGAR Full-Text Search
  (`https://efts.sec.gov/LATEST/search-index?q=...`).
- 1-click default = top 50 hits for `"cybersecurity incident"` on
  10-K / 10-Q / 8-K filed in the last year.
- SEC caps at 10 hits per request; the Actor loops `from=0,10,40,...`.
- Raw response has nested lists (`ciks`, `display_names`, `file_num`)
that the Actor normalizes to single primary values.
- Hits are paginated; very large result sets may require multiple
  Actor runs.
- Data source is third-party; availability and accuracy depend on the upstream.

### Data source & licence

SEC EDGAR is a U.S. Government work, not subject to copyright
(17 U.S.C. § 105). The SEC's fair-access policy governs automated
access: a User-Agent header is required, and the Actor sleeps 250 ms
between paginated requests to stay under the published rate limit.
We expose only public-record metadata.

### Use cases

- **Due diligence**: find every 10-K mentioning a target company,
counterparty risk word, or specific transaction.
- **ESG research**: search all DEF 14A proxies for "climate",
"diversity", "executive compensation" — across all filers.
- **Regulatory intel**: track "cybersecurity incident" disclosures in
8-K Item 1.05 across all filers.
- **Competitive intelligence**: monitor 10-Q/10-K filings of a curated
watchlist by CIK for specific phrases.
- **M\&A**: find every S-4 / DEFM14A mentioning a target acquirer name.
