## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR XBRL Frames API — Cross-Company Financial Facts

Query standardised XBRL frames (Revenues, Assets, NetIncomeLoss,
StockholdersEquity, …) for ~6 000 US public companies. Period presets,
derived fields, and post-filters return one record per
`(tag, entity, period)`. Built for **financial analysts**, **portfolio
managers**, and **AI agents** that need comparable numbers across
issuers.

### Free trial

A free Apify account gives you about **5 USD of monthly credits**, enough
to pull a year's worth of frame data for hundreds of issuers before
paying.

### Use cases

1. **Cross-company comparable** — pull `Revenues` and `NetIncomeLoss`
for the full S\&P 500 in `CY2024` and rank by margin.
2. **Asset composition** — fetch `Assets` per industry (SIC code) and
   track `entity_state`-level concentration shifts.
3. **Anomaly detection** — load `Revenues` and `Assets` for one issuer
over 5 years; surface YoY changes above 25 % for a human review.

### Pricing (pay-per-event)

- **No subscription.** Free monthly credits apply first.
- **1 result = $0.001 USD** (about $1 per 1 000 results).
- Charged per item returned in the dataset; failed runs are not charged.

### Source, licence, limits

- Source: SEC EDGAR XBRL Frames API at
  <https://data.sec.gov/api/xbrl/frames/>.
- Licence: US Government work, public domain (17 U.S.C. § 105).
- Update frequency: XBRL frames are derived from the most recent EDGAR
filings; this Actor reflects the upstream API at the moment of the run.
- Limits: 10 results per page in the SEC frames endpoint; we paginate up
to `max_results`. Foreign issuers use `ifrs-full` taxonomy and may not
  be returned for `us-gaap` tags.

### FAQ

**What's a "frame"?**
A frame is XBRL's cross-company view: all entities that reported a given
tag in a given period. Frames are 1 of the 3 XBRL query primitives
(facts, frames, components).

**Why is `value` in cents sometimes?**
Some facts are reported in `USD/shares` or per-entity units — the raw
unit is preserved in `unit`. Use `value_label` for display.

**Why are some companies missing?**
Foreign issuers filing under `ifrs-full` aren't returned for `us-gaap`
tags. Switch `taxonomy` if you need them.

**How do I get quarterly instead of annual?**
Use `period = CY2024Q2` or `CY2024Q4`. The Actor returns all matching
records.

**How do I get the smallest companies?**
Filter `min_value` to drop the long tail; or scope by `cik` from the
SEC company tickers Actor.

**Can I get per-share values?**
Yes — `unit = USD/shares` returns `EarningsPerShareDiluted` etc.
