## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## New Business Leads: New LLCs & Corporations (US)

**Every newly registered business in five states and three big cities, from the official registries, in one feed:**

- **State registries (Secretaries of State):** new LLCs, corporations, nonprofits, partnerships and assumed names (DBAs) in **New York** and **Colorado** (daily), **Connecticut** (daily, with the business email, NAICS industry and owners), **Oregon** and **Pennsylvania** (monthly).
- **City registrations:** new businesses in **Los Angeles** and **San Francisco** (business tax registrations, with NAICS), and new business licenses in **Chicago**.

Each record comes with the address, owners and officers, registered agent, entity type and status, as each registry publishes them. No account, no API key, no proxies: the data comes from the open data portals of the states and cities.

### Who uses it

- **Lead generation for services that new businesses buy:** business insurance, banking and merchant services, payroll, accounting and tax, legal, web design, signage, office supplies.
- **Sales teams and agencies** that want brand-new local businesses before anyone else: filter by city, ZIP code, keyword or industry and schedule it daily.
- **KYB and research:** who registered what, where and when, with the registry number to look it up.

### What you get

One record per business. A real Connecticut LLC registered on 2026-10-01 (owner names and email shortened for this page):

### Input

All registries, this week (the example of the form):

```json
{
  "registeredWithinDays": 7,
  "maxResults": 100
}
```

New LLCs and corporations in New York and Colorado this week, in Brooklyn and Denver:

```json
{
  "sources": ["new-york", "colorado"],
  "entityKinds": ["llc", "corporation"],
  "cities": ["Brooklyn", "Denver"],
  "registeredWithinDays": 7
}
```

New restaurants and construction companies in Connecticut this month, with their own email:

```json
{
  "sources": ["connecticut"],
  "keywords": ["restaurant", "construction"],
  "onlyWithEmail": true,
  "registeredWithinDays": 30
}
```

New food businesses (NAICS 72) in Los Angeles and San Francisco, every day, only the new ones:

```json
{
  "sources": ["los-angeles", "san-francisco"],
  "naicsPrefixes": ["72"],
  "registeredWithinDays": 3,
  "onlyNew": true
}
```

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `sources` | `new-york`, `colorado`, `connecticut`, `oregon`, `pennsylvania`, `los-angeles`, `san-francisco`, `chicago`. Empty = all. |
| `registeredWithinDays` | Businesses registered in the last N days (7 by default). |
| `entityKinds` | `llc`, `corporation`, `nonprofit`, `partnership`, `cooperative`, `assumed-name`, `other`. City registrations have no type: an LLC or Inc. at the end of the name gives it. |
| `keywords` | Words in the business name, or in the activity where the registry has one (Connecticut, Los Angeles, Chicago). |
| `cities`, `zipCodes` | Business address; ZIP codes take 5 digits or the first 3. |
| `naicsPrefixes` | Industry codes or their first digits (72 = food and lodging, 23 = construction). Connecticut, Los Angeles and San Francisco. |
| `onlyWithEmail` | Only businesses with their own email (Connecticut). |
| `includeForeign` | Also companies from other states that registered here (on by default). |
| `includeInactive` | Also rejected, dissolved, withdrawn or closed registrations (off by default). |
| `includePeople` | Owners, officers and organizers (on by default). |
| `maxResults` | Businesses saved, newest first (1,000 by default). On the same day the registries take turns, so a small cap still shows all of them. |
| `onlyNew` + `memoryName` | For daily runs: only businesses earlier runs of the same search did not save, or whose status or address changed. The memory lives in a key-value store named `us-new-businesses-state`. |
| `appToken` | Free Socrata app token, optional. |

### How much it costs

Pay per event: **only for the businesses saved**. Measured on 2026-10-03, a week brings about 6,700 new filings in New York (formations and DBAs), 3,000 in Colorado, 1,000 in Connecticut, 200 new locations in San Francisco and 150 new licenses in Chicago; Oregon registered about 7,600 businesses in August and Pennsylvania about 10,400 in its latest month. The example (100 businesses, all registries) runs in about 15 seconds.

### Use it from AI agents (MCP)

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any other MCP client can run this Actor as a tool: add `https://mcp.apify.com?tools=digital_influx/us-new-businesses` as a remote MCP server and sign in with your Apify account. It is also one of the tools of Company Research MCP (`digital_influx/company-research-mcp`) and US & UK Public Records MCP (`digital_influx/public-records-mcp`), by the same author, made for agents.

### Good to know

- **How fresh each registry is (2026-10-03):** New York, Colorado, Connecticut, San Francisco and Chicago publish with one to three days of delay. **Oregon publishes last month's registrations once a month** and Pennsylvania about monthly: use 45 days or more to include them. When a registry has nothing in the window, the run says the date of its newest record.
- **New York** publishes every filing twice; each business is saved once. Formation services (LegalZoom, Northwest, ZenBusiness...) file many of them: their name is in `filer`, and when one of them receives the legal papers it is the `registeredAgent`, not the business address.
- **Connecticut** corporations report their officers with the first annual report: a new corporation may come without people.
- **Chicago** counts new business licenses: a business that got several new licenses in the window comes once, with all of them in `activity`.
- **Emails and phones are the ones the registries publish.** Follow CAN-SPAM, GDPR where it applies, and the TCPA and state rules for calls and texts.
- **Requests:** one a second per portal, as their robots.txt asks.

# Actor input Schema

## `sources` (type: `array`):

Official registries to read. Empty = all. States: new companies registered with the Secretary of State. Cities: new business registrations or licenses.

## `registeredWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Businesses registered in the last N days. The daily registries publish one to three days late; Oregon and Pennsylvania publish once a month, so use 45 days or more to include them.

## `entityKinds` (type: `array`):

Keep only these types. Empty = all. City registrations have no type: an LLC or Inc. at the end of the name gives it.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Words to find in the business name, or in its activity where the registry publishes one (Connecticut, Los Angeles, Chicago), e.g. RESTAURANT, CONSTRUCTION, TRUCKING, DENTAL.

## `cities` (type: `array`):

Cities of the business address, e.g. Brooklyn, Denver, Hartford.

## `zipCodes` (type: `array`):

5-digit ZIP codes, or their first 3 digits for a wider area.

## `naicsPrefixes` (type: `array`):

Industry codes or their first digits, e.g. 72 (food and lodging), 23 (construction), 5411 (legal services). Only Connecticut, Los Angeles and San Francisco publish them.

## `onlyWithEmail` (type: `boolean`):

Save only businesses with their own email. Only Connecticut publishes one; emails of formation services (registered agents, filing companies) are left out.

## `includeForeign` (type: `boolean`):

Also save companies formed in another state that just registered to do business here. On by default.

## `includeInactive` (type: `boolean`):

Also save registrations that were rejected, dissolved, withdrawn or closed. Off by default.

## `includePeople` (type: `boolean`):

Members, managers, officers, organizers and process designees, as each registry publishes them. Connecticut principals take one extra request per 100 businesses.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Businesses saved in this run, newest first; on the same day the registries take turns. You also never pay more than the spending limit you set for the run.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Save only businesses that earlier runs of this same search did not save, or whose status or address changed since. Schedule it daily. The memory lives in a key-value store named "us-new-businesses-state" in your account.

## `memoryName` (type: `string`):

By default each search has its own memory. Give a name to share one memory between tasks, or a new name to start over.

## `appToken` (type: `string`):

Without a token, the portals share a request limit per IP address. A free app token from any Socrata portal gives you your own limit. Only needed if a run reports a refused request.
