## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Google Play App Rating & Metadata Tracker

Track **Google Play apps by package name** and see **what changed since your last run**: star rating, rating count, the 1–5 star histogram, installs band, price, last update date and the ads / in-app purchase flags. Schedule it daily or weekly for ASO monitoring of your own apps and your competitors.

**Aggregate data only.** No reviews, no reviewer names, no developer names or contact details, no descriptions.

### Quick start: example input, output and cost

Input:

```json
{ "apps": ["org.wikipedia", "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.music"], "country": "us" }
```

Output (one item per app, shortened):

```json
{ "appId": "org.wikipedia", "name": "Wikipedia", "country": "us", "rating": 4.343, "ratingCount": 693988,
  "starHistogram": {"5": 460806, "4": 70621, "3": 27462, "2": 24845, "1": 57105},
  "installs": "50M+", "installsMin": 50000000, "price": 0, "currency": "USD", "updatedOn": "Oct 5, 2026",
  "containsAds": false, "inAppPurchases": false, "status": "changed", "ratingDelta": -0.002, "ratingCountDelta": 412,
  "changes": [{"field": "ratingCount", "from": 693576, "to": 693988}] }
```

Cost: 2 apps = **$0.0006**. 100 apps checked daily for a month = about **$0.90**.

### What you get

- `appId`, `name`, `country`, `url`, `category`, `contentRating`, `iconUrl`
- `rating` (3 decimals), `ratingCount`, `starHistogram` (count per star)
- `installs` (Google's band, e.g. `1M+`) and `installsMin` (number)
- `price`, `currency`, `free`, `containsAds`, `inAppPurchases`, `updatedOn`
- With **Compare with the previous run** (on by default): `status` (`baseline` / `changed` / `unchanged`), `changes[]` (field, from, to), `ratingDelta`, `ratingCountDelta`, `previousCheckAt`

Snapshots are kept per app **and** country in a named key-value store (`monitorName`), so you can run separate sets such as `my-apps` and `competitors`.

### Input

| Field | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| `apps` | (required) | Package names or Google Play app links, up to 1000 per run |
| `country` | `us` | Play Store country (price, currency, availability follow it); pages are read in English |
| `trackChanges` | `true` | Compare with the previous run and report changes |
| `monitorName` | `default` | Name of the snapshot set |

### Pricing

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| App checked (rating + metadata saved) | **$0.0003** |

No start fee. Invalid package names, apps that do not exist in the chosen country, blocked or unreadable pages are **free** and listed in the `ERRORS` record with the reason. Set a maximum cost per run and the actor stops before it is reached.

### What this actor does not do

- No Play search, top charts, reviews or data-safety pages: Google Play's robots.txt disallows those paths, and we follow it.
- No Apple App Store: Apple's website terms forbid robots and its Search API is limited to promoting store content.
- No proxies, no cookies, no login, no CAPTCHA solving. If Google Play refuses a request, the app is reported as failed (free).

### Responsible use and compliance

- Only public app detail pages (`/store/apps/details`), which play.google.com/robots.txt allows. robots.txt is checked for every request (fail-closed). Google's Terms of Service restrict automated access that violates robots.txt instructions; this actor never does that.
- Honest User-Agent with a contact URL, at most 1 request per second, Retry-After honoured.
- **No personal data:** Google marks app developers as schema.org `Person`, so developer names, emails, phones and addresses are never extracted; neither are reviews or descriptions.
- App names, icons and ratings belong to their owners and Google. Use the data for analysis and monitoring.

### Use it in n8n, Make or Zapier

Schedule the actor daily, then filter dataset items on `status = "changed"` (or `ratingDelta < -0.05`) and send an alert.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

Android package names (com.spotify.music) or Google Play app links (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=...). Up to 1000 per run; duplicates are checked once. Each app checked costs $0.0003; invalid or missing apps are free.

## `country` (type: `string`):

2-letter country code for the Play Store country (us, nl, de, gb...). Price, currency, content rating and availability follow this country. Pages are always read in English.

## `monitorName` (type: `string`):

Separate snapshot sets, e.g. 'competitors' and 'my-apps'. Letters, digits and dashes only.
