## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## HTTP Request Runner - Bulk API Calls, JSON Field Extraction

Send **GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE or HEAD** requests to your APIs from Apify, **Clay**, **Make**, **n8n** or any Apify integration: one request or thousands in a single run. Get the status code, timing, parsed JSON (or text) and the fields you care about in a flat `extracted` object.

**$0.00299 per completed request** (1,000 requests = $2.99), no start fee. Requests that are blocked, invalid or never get a response are **free**.

### Why this one

- **Thousands of API calls in one run, no code step.** Give a list of requests and get back status, timing, parsed JSON and only the fields you ask for in a flat `extracted` object, ready for Clay columns, Make or n8n.
- **Your API key stays secret.** The authorization header is stored encrypted by Apify, sent on every request and never written to the dataset; `api_key`-style query parameters are masked in the output.
- **Safe retries.** GET/PUT/DELETE/HEAD are retried up to 2 times on 429/5xx and honour `Retry-After`; POST/PATCH are never retried, so no duplicate side effects.
- **You pay only for completed requests.** Blocked, invalid or unanswered requests are free; no start fee, and your maximum cost per run is respected.

### Quick start: example input, output and cost

Bulk HTTP API calls with secret auth header, JSON path extraction and polite retries. Works with Clay, Make and n8n. Pay per completed request.

**Example input**

```json
{
  "url": "https://httpbin.org/get?hello=world"
}
```

**Cost example:** 10,000 requests x $0.00299 = **$29.90**; 1,000 requests = **$2.99**.

### Highlights

- **Quick mode**: `url` + `method` + `query` + `body` + `headers`. **Batch mode**: `requests` = a list of `{url, method, headers, query, body, bodyType, name}` (plain URL strings work too).
- **Secret authorization header** (`authorizationHeader`, e.g. `Bearer <token>`): stored encrypted by Apify, sent on every request, never written to the dataset. Query parameters named like `api_key`, `token`, `secret`, `signature` are masked in the output.
- **extract**: dotted paths such as `data.items.0.id` or `results.-1.name`, returned as `extracted: {path: value}`. Ideal for Clay columns.
- JSON, form (`bodyType: "form"`) or text bodies; `defaultHeaders` for all requests.
- Polite retries: GET/PUT/DELETE/HEAD are retried up to 2 times on 429/5xx, honouring `Retry-After`. POST/PATCH are never retried (no duplicate side effects).
- Redirects are returned (status + `location`), not followed, so you see exactly what the API answered. Response size cap (`maxResponseKb`).

### Output (one item per completed request)

`name, method, url (secrets masked), statusCode, ok, durationMs, attempts, contentType, responseBytes, truncated, format, json, text, location, extracted, responseHeaders (optional, no Set-Cookie)`

Requests that were not sent or got no response are listed in **ERRORS** with the reason; totals in **SUMMARY**.

### Limits

- Public APIs and pages only, at about one request per second per host. Hosts that disallow it in robots.txt are skipped.
- Redirects are reported, not followed. Responses above `maxResponseKb` are cut.
- It is not a load-testing tool.

### Use it in n8n, Make or Zapier (no code)

This actor works with Apify's official integrations, so you can send results to Google Sheets, Slack, Notion, a CRM or any of thousands of other apps.

**n8n**: [n8n.io](https://n8n.io)

1. In the Nodes panel, search **Apify** and install the verified node. Add your Apify API token.
2. Choose **Actors > Run actor and get dataset**, Actor source **Apify Store**, Actor URL `https://apify.com/sophisticated_occasion/http-api-request-runner`.
3. Paste the input below into **Input JSON**. Each result item becomes an n8n item.

**Make**: [make.com](https://www.make.com/en/register)

1. Add the **Apify > Run an Actor** module, select this actor, turn on *Run synchronously*.
2. Add **Apify > Get Dataset Items** and map the `defaultDatasetId` from step 1.
3. Connect any app (Google Sheets > Add a Row, Slack > Create a Message, ...).

**Zapier:** use the **Apify** app, action **Run Actor** (pick this actor, paste the input), then **Fetch Dataset Items**.

**Example input**

```json
{
  "url": "https://httpbin.org/get?hello=world",
  "method": "GET",
  "maxResponseKb": 1024,
  "includeResponseHeaders": false
}
```

**API (any language):** `POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/sophisticated_occasion~http-api-request-runner/run-sync-get-dataset-items` with header `Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_TOKEN>` and the input above as the JSON body.

### Responsible use (public data only)

Use it only for **public, non-personal data**: public APIs that allow automated access, or your own APIs/accounts you are entitled to call with your own API key. Do not use it to collect personal data, to reach content behind someone else's login, or to get around access controls.

- At most about one request per second per host, with an honest, fixed User-Agent (`ApiRunner/1.0`) that cannot be overridden.
- robots.txt is checked for every host (API hosts without one are allowed); disallowed URLs are skipped and not charged.
- Private, local, link-local and cloud-metadata addresses are refused, both when the URL is checked and again at connect time (DNS-rebinding guard). Redirects are returned, never followed.
- No proxies, no browser cookies, no IP/User-Agent spoofing headers (`Cookie`, `User-Agent`, `X-Forwarded-For`, `Forwarded`, `X-Real-IP` and similar are rejected), and no retries beyond `Retry-After`: blocks, CAPTCHAs and rate limits are reported, never bypassed.

### Pricing

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Request completed (`request-sent`) | $0.00299 |

Set a maximum cost per run in Apify and the actor stops sending before it would exceed it.
