## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## DModify SEC Financial Filings

Access the latest validated DModify SEC financial filings dataset through an Apify Actor.

This Actor retrieves DModify's current production dataset and writes the records to the run's default Apify Dataset. It is a data-access Actor, not a standalone SEC scraper. DModify's production pipeline remains the source of truth for collection, normalization, validation, and publication.

### What you get

Each record identifies an SEC filing and includes selected financial metrics when available, together with source provenance and DModify data-quality metadata.

Typical fields include:

- SEC CIK, company name, form type, filing date, and accession number
- Reporting period end
- Revenue, net income, total debt, cash, and operating cash flow in USD millions
- Debt-to-equity ratio when available
- Financial-source form, filing date, accession number, and SEC EDGAR URL
- Source filing URL
- DModify data-quality status and messages
- Processing timestamp

Financial fields can be `null` when a value is not available for a record.

### Input

The Actor has one optional input:

```json
{
  "limit": 10
}
```

`limit` sets the maximum number of records returned. Leave it empty, or run with `{}`, to return the complete latest dataset.

### Output

Results are written to the run's default Apify Dataset. The Output tab provides an **Overview** view for key filing and financial fields and an **All fields** view for the complete record.

Example record:

```json
{
  "schema_version": "1.0.0",
  "dataset": "sec_financial_filings",
  "cik": "0001082324",
  "company_name": "VirnetX Holding Corp",
  "form_type": "8-K",
  "filing_date": "2026-10-01",
  "accession_number": "0001140361-26-038170",
  "period_end": "2026-06-30",
  "revenue_usd_millions": 0,
  "net_income_usd_millions": -4.53,
  "cash_usd_millions": 13.09,
  "operating_cash_flow_usd_millions": -7.62,
  "source_system": "SEC EDGAR",
  "source_filing_url": "https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1082324/000114036126038170/",
  "data_quality_status": "PASS"
}
```

### Data source and validation

The source system is SEC EDGAR. DModify processes the source data through its production pipeline and publishes validated records for this Actor to retrieve. Source and financial-source filing URLs are included where available so users can trace records back to SEC EDGAR.

The Actor does not scrape SEC EDGAR during an Apify run. It accesses the latest dataset made available by DModify's production API.

### Running the Actor

In Apify Console, configure the optional **Maximum records** input and start the Actor. The resulting records are available in the run's Dataset and through Apify's Dataset API and export tools.

For CLI use:

```bash
apify call dmodify/dmodify-sec-financial-filings --input '{"limit":3}'
```

To request the complete latest dataset:

```bash
apify call dmodify/dmodify-sec-financial-filings --input '{}'
```

### Notes

- The number of available records can change as DModify publishes newer production data.
- Financial values are reported in USD millions where indicated by the field name.
- Missing financial values are returned as `null`.
- This Actor exposes validated DModify production data; it does not reproduce the upstream collection pipeline.

### About DModify

DModify provides structured, validated datasets for research, analysis, automation, and API-based workflows.

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("dmodify/dmodify-sec-financial-filings").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
