# RSS & Atom Feed Reader: News, Blogs, Podcasts to JSON (`dodge_bot/rss-feed-reader`) Actor

Turn any RSS, Atom or JSON feed into clean JSON: title, link, date, author, categories, summary, full content, images, and podcast audio links with durations. Give it feed URLs or just website addresses (the feed is found automatically). Filter by date, many feeds per run.

## Pricing

Pay per event

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RSS & Atom Feed Reader: News, Blogs, Podcasts to JSON

Turn any RSS 2.0, RSS 1.0, Atom or JSON Feed into clean, consistent JSON. For each item you get the title, link, publication date, author, categories, a plain-text summary, optionally the full HTML content, an image, and for podcasts the audio file link and duration. Give it feed URLs, or just a website address: if the page links to a feed, it is found automatically.

**$0.30 per 1,000 items.** Feeds that fail, are empty or can't be found are free.

### Good for

- **News monitoring**: follow many publications and filter to the last day or week
- **Content pipelines and AI**: feed fresh articles into summarisers, newsletters or RAG
- **Podcast data**: episode titles, dates, audio URLs and durations
- **Competitor tracking**: new posts from rival blogs, on a schedule

### Output (one row per item)

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `feedTitle`, `feedUrl`, `feedFormat` | The feed and its format (`rss2`, `rss1`, `atom`, `json`) |
| `title`, `link`, `guid` | The item |
| `published`, `updated` | ISO dates when the feed provides them |
| `author`, `categories` | As the feed gives them |
| `summary` | Plain text, up to 2,000 characters |
| `contentHtml` | Full HTML content (only if you switch it on and the feed includes it) |
| `image`, `enclosureUrl`, `enclosureType`, `durationSeconds` | Media: image, attachment (for example podcast MP3) and duration |

### Input

- **Feeds or websites**: up to 2,000 per run.
- **Maximum items per feed**: default 50.
- **Published within (days)**: 0 for no filter.
- **Include full HTML content**, **Respect robots.txt** (on by default).

### Limits

- It returns what the feed contains. Many feeds list only the latest 10-50 items, and some include only a short summary rather than the full text.
- A feed that appears several times in one run (for example a site and its feed URL) is read once.

# Actor input Schema

## `feeds` (type: `array`):

## `maxItemsPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

Newest items as ordered by the feed.

## `publishedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

0 = no date filter. Items without a date are kept.

## `includeContent` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the item's full HTML content when the feed provides it (content:encoded or Atom content).

## `respectRobotsTxt` (type: `boolean`):

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "feeds": [
        "https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml",
        "https://blog.apify.com"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("dodge_bot/rss-feed-reader").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
