# Dead Embed & Script Finder: FB Like, Maps, polyfill.io, AddThis (`donrulezz/dead-embed-script-finder`) Actor

Crawl your websites and find embeds and scripts that stopped working or became risky: Facebook Like and Comments plugins (dead since 10 Feb 2026), removed Google Maps features, keyless maps, polyfill.io, AddThis, old Square payment form, Skype buttons, dead CDNs. Pages and fix for each.

## Pricing

from $0.70 / 1,000 page scanneds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Dead Embed & Script Finder: FB Like, Maps, polyfill.io, AddThis

Old websites are full of third-party embeds that quietly stopped working — or became dangerous. This Actor **crawls your
sites** and finds them, page by page, with the fix for each:

Built for **web agencies and maintainers** (audit every client site before something visibly breaks), **marketing teams**
(dead Like/Comments boxes and share bars) and **security teams** (polyfill.io-style supply-chain risk).

### Input

```json
{ "startUrls": ["https://www.example.org"], "maxPagesPerSite": 50, "maxDepth": 3, "useSitemap": true }
```

Or `siteListUrl`: a CSV/TXT or published Google Sheets CSV link with all your client sites. Each site is crawled on its
own host, robots.txt is respected, sitemap pages are queued, and contact/map/shop/blog/event pages go first.

### Output (one item per site)

```json
{
  "site": "https://www.example.org",
  "risk": "high",
  "pagesCrawled": 50,
  "highFindings": 1,
  "mediumFindings": 2,
  "findings": [
    {"rule": "google-maps-removed-features", "severity": "high", "since": "2026-05-01",
     "title": "Uses Google Maps features that no longer exist (KmlLayer ...)", "pageCount": 3,
     "pages": ["https://www.example.org/locations", "..."], "action": "Replace KML layers with ...", "source": "https://developers.google.com/maps/deprecations"}
  ]
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per page crawled. Pages that fail to load are free; the run stops at your spending limit.

### FAQ

**Why is my Facebook Like button not showing anymore?**
Meta discontinued the Like button and Comments plugin for third-party websites on 10 February 2026. Existing embeds now
render as an invisible 0×0 box. This Actor lists every page that still carries them so you can remove them (the Share
button and Page plugin still work).

**Google Maps KmlLayer or heatmap stopped working on my site. Why?**
Google removed KmlLayer at the end of April 2026, and the Heatmap Layer and Drawing library in May 2026 (Google Maps
Platform deprecations page). The Actor finds pages using them, plus maps loaded without an API key (the dark "for
development purposes only" map) and the long-retired v2 / Fusion Tables loaders.

**How do I check if my site still loads polyfill.io?**
Run the Actor on your domains: it flags `<script>` tags from polyfill.io and its sister CDNs (bootcss, bootcdn,
staticfile) on every crawled page. Remove them or point them to a safe mirror.

**Will Chrome's XSLT removal break my site?**
Chrome 158 turns XSLT off on 17 November 2026. Pages that render XML with `XSLTProcessor` or an XSL stylesheet are
flagged as high; XSL-styled XML sitemaps are reported as info only, because search engines don't use the stylesheet.

**Does it run JavaScript?**
No. It reads the HTML your server sends (including inline scripts), which is where these embeds and loaders live. That
keeps it fast and cheap; widgets injected later by a tag manager may not show up.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Home pages (or any start page) of the sites to scan, one per line. Each site is crawled on its own host; robots.txt is respected.

## `siteListUrl` (type: `string`):

A CSV/TXT file or a published Google Sheets CSV link with your client sites; any column holding a domain or URL is used (one site per row).

## `maxPagesPerSite` (type: `integer`):

Pages that look like contact, map, shop, blog or event pages are crawled first.

## `maxDepth` (type: `integer`):

How many clicks away from the start page to follow links.

## `useSitemap` (type: `boolean`):

Also queue the pages listed in the sitemap (robots.txt Sitemap lines or /sitemap.xml), so product, ticket and course pages deep in the site are reached; shop-like pages are still crawled first.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Keep it low for small hosting plans.
