## Pricing

from $0.70 / 1,000 domain checkeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk Domain Availability Checker + RDAP WHOIS Lookup

Check **thousands of domains in one run**, or **generate names from keywords × TLDs** (with optional prefixes and suffixes) and find out which ones are free. For names that are taken you get the registrar, created and expiry dates, **days until expiry**, EPP status (for example *pending delete*), nameservers and DNSSEC.

It uses the registries' **official RDAP servers** (the modern, structured replacement for WHOIS) for 1,200+ TLDs, found through IANA's bootstrap file, with a DNS check for the few TLDs that have no RDAP yet. No personal registrant data is read or returned.

### What you get

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `status` | `available`, `registered`, `probably-available` (TLD without RDAP, no DNS delegation), `invalid` or `unknown` |
| `available` | `true` / `false` (`null` when unknown) |
| `registrar`, `registrarIanaId` | Who the domain is registered with |
| `createdDate`, `updatedDate`, `expiryDate` | Dates from the registry |
| `daysToExpiry` | Days left until the registration expires |
| `domainStatus`, `dropping`, `onHold` | EPP status codes; `dropping` flags pending delete / redemption |
| `nameservers`, `dnssec` | Delegation and whether DNSSEC is signed |
| `method`, `rdapUrl` | How it was checked (RDAP or DNS) and the RDAP record used |

### Use cases

- **Naming a startup, product or brand:** combine keywords with .com, .io, .ai, .app and prefixes like *get* or *try*, and keep only the free ones.
- **Domain investing and drop-catching:** sort registered names by days to expiry and spot *pending delete* names about to drop.
- **Portfolio and brand monitoring:** see the registrar, expiry and DNSSEC of every domain you own in one table, on a schedule.
- **Lead and market research:** enrich a list of company domains with registration age and registrar.
- **AI agents:** call it through the Apify API or MCP server to check names while brainstorming.

### Input examples

Check a list:

```json
{
  "domains": ["openai.com", "brightlane.io", "my-new-startup-name.com"]
}
```

Generate and keep only free names:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["bright lane", "northwind"],
  "tlds": ["com", "io", "ai", "app"],
  "prefixes": ["get", "try"],
  "onlyAvailable": true
}
```

### Output example

From a real run:

```json
{
  "domain": "openai.com",
  "tld": "com",
  "method": "rdap",
  "status": "registered",
  "available": false,
  "registrar": "MarkMonitor Inc.",
  "expiryDate": "2029-01-19",
  "daysToExpiry": 815,
  "nameservers": ["ns1-02.azure-dns.com", "ns2-02.azure-dns.net", "ns3-02.azure-dns.org", "ns4-02.azure-dns.info"],
  "dropping": false,
  "dnssec": false
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$1 per 1,000 domains checked** (less on higher Apify plans). Results with status `unknown` (registry down or rate-limiting after retries) are **not charged**. Set a maximum spend per run in the run options and the actor stops cleanly when it is reached.

### Good to know

- "Available" means the registry has no record of the name. Some registries price short or premium names higher, and a few names are reserved; your registrar shows the final price.
- `probably-available` appears only for TLDs without an RDAP server (for example .de): there is no DNS delegation, so the name is very likely free. Confirm at a registrar before relying on it.
- Registries rate-limit RDAP. The actor spreads requests across servers and retries politely; very large single-TLD lists run slower than mixed lists.

### FAQ

**Is this WHOIS?** RDAP is the official successor of WHOIS, run by the same registries, with structured data. ICANN requires it for all generic TLDs.

**Do you show the owner's name or email?** No. Only registrar, dates, status codes, nameservers and DNSSEC.

**Something wrong?** Open an issue on the actor's Issues tab and it will be fixed.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Full domain names, one per line (example.com, brand.co.uk). URLs and www. are cleaned up; internationalised names are supported.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Optional. Each keyword is combined with every TLD below (and the prefixes/suffixes), e.g. 'bright lane' -> brightlane.com, brightlane.io...

## `tlds` (type: `array`):

Extensions to try for each keyword, without the dot.

## `prefixes` (type: `array`):

Optional. Also try these in front of each keyword, e.g. get, try, use, my.

## `suffixes` (type: `array`):

Optional. Also try these after each keyword, e.g. hq, app, labs, ai.

## `onlyAvailable` (type: `boolean`):

Skip registered domains in the results (they are still checked and counted).

## `includeRdapDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Registrar, created/updated/expiry dates, days to expiry, EPP status, nameservers and DNSSEC.

## `maxDomains` (type: `integer`):

Optional cap on how many names to check (0 = no cap). Useful when keywords × TLDs produce many names.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Total parallel checks (1-50).

## `perServerConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Registries rate-limit; 3 is safe. Rate limits are retried automatically.
