## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Hongguo Series Episodes API

List every episode for a Hongguo title and receive normalized episode metadata with reusable `videoId` values. Use it after the search Actor or whenever you already have a `bookId`.

### What you get

- One Dataset row per episode
- `bookId`, `videoId`, episode title, volume name, and publication time
- IDs ready for the standard, direct, or batch video parsers
- A `traceId` for support and troubleshooting

### Quick start

```json
{
  "bookId": "7651964941498338328"
}
```

### Call with curl

```bash
curl -L "https://api.apify.com/v2/actors/dramadatalab~hongguo-drama-episodes/run-sync-get-dataset-items?timeout=120" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"bookId":"7651964941498338328"}'
```

### Call with JavaScript

```js
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: process.env.APIFY_TOKEN });
const run = await client.actor('dramadatalab/hongguo-drama-episodes').call({
    bookId: '7651964941498338328',
});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.log(items.map(({ videoId, title }) => ({ videoId, title })));
```

### Call with Python

```python
import os
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient(os.environ["APIFY_TOKEN"])
run = client.actor("dramadatalab/hongguo-drama-episodes").call(run_input={
    "bookId": "7651964941498338328",
})
episodes = list(client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items())
print([(episode["videoId"], episode.get("title")) for episode in episodes])
```

### Example result

```json
{
  "status": "success",
  "bookId": "7651964941498338328",
  "videoId": "7601395019102047257",
  "title": "Episode 1",
  "volumeName": "1",
  "firstPassTime": "2026-01-01T00:00:00Z",
  "traceId": "request-trace-id"
}
```

The example shows the output shape. Live episode metadata comes from the Actor run.

### Which parser should you use next?

| Need | Actor |
| --- | --- |
| One episode plus quality, codec, dimensions, bitrate, and duration | [Hongguo Video Parser](https://apify.com/dramadatalab/hongguo-video-parser) |
| One episode with automatic playback-line selection | [Hongguo Direct Video](https://apify.com/dramadatalab/hongguo-direct-video) |
| Up to ten episode IDs in one upstream request | [Hongguo Batch Video Parser](https://apify.com/dramadatalab/hongguo-batch-video-parser) |

### Pricing

| Event | Price | When it is charged |
| --- | ---: | --- |
| Actor start | `$0.00005` | Once per run at up to 1 GB memory |
| Successful metadata query | `$0.002` | Once only when one or more episodes are returned |

A typical successful episode lookup costs **$0.00205**, whether the title has one episode or many. Empty and failed lookups do not trigger the metadata event. Platform usage is included.

### Troubleshooting

- **No rows:** confirm that `bookId` came from the Hongguo catalog.
- **Invalid input:** `bookId` must be a non-empty string.
- **Run spending limit reached:** set `maxTotalChargeUsd` to at least `$0.00205`.
- **Temporary upstream error:** retry later and include `traceId` in an issue.
