## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Hongguo Short Drama Search API

Search Hongguo short dramas, comic dramas, and film/TV titles by name. Get normalized metadata and the reusable `bookId` required by the episode-list Actor. Users do not need to provide a Hongguo API key.

### What you get

- One Dataset row per matching title
- Normalized `bookId`, title, author, cover, introduction, and episode count
- Short drama, comic drama, and film/TV search modes
- A `traceId` for troubleshooting without exposing upstream billing or credentials
- JSON, CSV, Excel, and other Dataset export formats provided by Apify

### Quick start

```json
{
  "name": "重生",
  "page": 1,
  "tabType": 11
}
```

| `tabType` | Catalog |
| --- | --- |
| `11` | Short dramas |
| `19` | Comic dramas |
| `21` | Film and TV |

### Call with curl

Keep your Apify token in an environment variable. Never put it in client-side code.

```bash
curl -L "https://api.apify.com/v2/actors/dramadatalab~hongguo-drama-search/run-sync-get-dataset-items?timeout=120" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name":"重生","page":1,"tabType":11}'
```

### Call with JavaScript

```bash
npm install apify-client
```

```js
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: process.env.APIFY_TOKEN });
const run = await client.actor('dramadatalab/hongguo-drama-search').call({
    name: '重生',
    page: 1,
    tabType: 11,
});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.log(items);
```

### Call with Python

```bash
pip install apify-client
```

```python
import os
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient(os.environ["APIFY_TOKEN"])
run = client.actor("dramadatalab/hongguo-drama-search").call(run_input={
    "name": "重生",
    "page": 1,
    "tabType": 11,
})
items = list(client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items())
print(items)
```

### Example result

```json
{
  "status": "success",
  "bookId": "7651964941498338328",
  "title": "Example title",
  "author": "Example author",
  "episodeCount": 80,
  "cover": "https://example.invalid/cover.jpg",
  "intro": "Example introduction",
  "traceId": "request-trace-id"
}
```

The example shows the output shape. Live catalog data comes from the Actor run.

### Complete workflow

1. Search here and copy a `bookId`.
2. Send it to [Hongguo Drama Episodes](https://apify.com/dramadatalab/hongguo-drama-episodes) to obtain episode `videoId` values.
3. Resolve those IDs with the detailed, direct, or batch parser.

### Pricing

| Event | Price | When it is charged |
| --- | ---: | --- |
| Actor start | `$0.00005` | Once per run at up to 1 GB memory |
| Successful metadata query | `$0.002` | Once only when valid title records are returned |

A typical successful search costs **$0.00205**. Empty results and failed metadata queries do not trigger the metadata event. Platform usage is included in the event prices.

### Troubleshooting

- **No results:** confirm the title, page, and catalog type.
- **Run spending limit reached:** set `maxTotalChargeUsd` to at least `$0.00205`.
- **Temporary upstream error:** retry later and include `traceId` when opening an issue.
