## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## CoinGecko Crypto Scraper — Prices, Market Cap & Volume

Scrape **cryptocurrency market data** — price, market cap, rank, 24h volume and change, circulating/total/max supply, and all-time high/low — into **one unified dataset** using the public **CoinGecko** API. No login, no proxies, no browser, no API key.

Fetch specific coins by ID, or the **top N by market cap**, priced in any currency.

### What you get

Every coin is one row (`recordType: "coin"`):

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `coinId` / `symbol` / `name` | CoinGecko ID, ticker, and name |
| `price` | current price in `vsCurrency` |
| `marketCap` / `marketCapRank` | market cap and rank |
| `volume24h` | 24-hour trading volume |
| `high24h` / `low24h` | 24-hour range |
| `priceChange24h` / `priceChangePct24h` | 24-hour change |
| `circulatingSupply` / `totalSupply` / `maxSupply` | supply figures |
| `ath` / `athDate` / `atl` / `atlDate` | all-time high & low |
| `lastUpdated` | ISO timestamp |
| `url` | CoinGecko page |

### Sample output

```json
{
  "recordType": "coin",
  "coinId": "bitcoin",
  "symbol": "BTC",
  "name": "Bitcoin",
  "price": 78465,
  "marketCap": 1574714023273,
  "marketCapRank": 1,
  "volume24h": 50123456789,
  "high24h": 79000,
  "low24h": 74000,
  "priceChange24h": 4000,
  "priceChangePct24h": 5.4,
  "circulatingSupply": 19800000,
  "maxSupply": 21000000,
  "ath": 100000,
  "athDate": "2025-01-01T00:00:00.000Z",
  "vsCurrency": "usd",
  "url": "https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bitcoin"
}
```

### Input

```json
{
  "coinIds": ["bitcoin", "ethereum", "solana"],
  "topN": 0,
  "vsCurrency": "usd"
}
```

- **coinIds** — CoinGecko coin IDs (the id in the coin URL).
- **topN** — also fetch the top N coins by market cap (0 = off).
- **vsCurrency** — quote currency (`usd`, `eur`, `gbp`, `jpy`, …).

### Use cases

- **Crypto dashboards** — a clean price + market-cap feed for your app or sheet
- **Portfolio tracking** — snapshot the coins you hold on a schedule
- **Market research** — rank and compare the top coins by cap, volume, and momentum
- **Alerting** — watch 24h change and volume for coins you care about

### FAQ

**Do I need an API key or login?** No. It uses CoinGecko's public API — no key, no account, no proxy.

**Is it free to try?** Yes — click **Try for free** and run the prefilled coins (`bitcoin`, `ethereum`, `solana`).

**Can I get the whole market?** Yes — set `topN` (e.g. 250 or 1000) to pull the top coins by market cap.

**Can I price in euros or another currency?** Yes — set `vsCurrency` (e.g. `eur`, `gbp`, `jpy`).

### Pricing

**Pay per result — $5 per 1,000 coins.** Runs that return nothing cost nothing. No monthly fee, no proxy costs.
