## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Google Maps Lead Extractor — Outreach-Ready Local Business Leads

Turn a keyword + location into a clean Google Maps lead list you can export to CSV.

**Best for:** local agencies, SEO operators, founders, sales teams, and freelancers who need prospect lists by city/category.

**Current healthy build:** `0.0.35` — reliability-focused release with smaller safe defaults, bounded enrichment, and dataset schema fixes.

### What you get

For each Google Maps business result, this actor returns:

| Field | Included |
|---|---:|
| Business name, category, rating, review count | ✅ |
| Address, phone, website, Google Maps URL | ✅ |
| Latitude, longitude, Place ID | ✅ |
| Hours, closed status, menu URL, photos | ✅ |
| Optional website emails/social links | ✅ |
| CSV/Excel/Sheets-friendly flat output | ✅ |

***

### Fast start: copy-paste inputs

#### Small reliable first run

```json
{
  "searchQueries": ["dentists in Austin TX"],
  "maxResults": 10,
  "extractEmails": false
}
```

#### Local agency prospecting

```json
{
  "searchQueries": ["roofing companies in Phoenix AZ"],
  "maxResults": 25,
  "extractEmails": true,
  "maxEnrichmentPages": 2,
  "websiteRequestTimeoutSecs": 8
}
```

#### Fast market mapping

```json
{
  "searchQueries": ["restaurants in Brooklyn NY"],
  "maxResults": 50,
  "extractEmails": false
}
```

***

### Example output

```json
{
  "businessName": "ATX Family Dental",
  "category": "Dentist",
  "rating": "4.9",
  "reviewCount": "260",
  "address": "Austin, TX",
  "phone": "+1 512-555-0100",
  "website": "https://example-dental.com",
  "hours": "Open ⋅ Closes 5 PM",
  "latitude": 30.2482229,
  "longitude": -97.7559705,
  "url": "https://www.google.com/maps/place/...",
  "emailsString": "info@example-dental.com",
  "facebookUrl": "https://facebook.com/example",
  "instagramUrl": "https://instagram.com/example",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-08-25T00:00:00.000Z"
}
```

***

### When to turn email/social enrichment on

Use `extractEmails: false` when you need speed and Google Maps fields only.

Use `extractEmails: true` when you need outreach-ready enrichment. The actor will visit the business website and a small number of common contact/about pages. This is more valuable, but slower.

Recommended reliable settings for enriched runs:

```json
{
  "maxResults": 25,
  "extractEmails": true,
  "maxEnrichmentPages": 2,
  "websiteRequestTimeoutSecs": 8
}
```

For bigger exports, run multiple city/category batches instead of one huge broad query.

***

### Pricing note

This actor is priced for enriched leads, not just raw scraped places. Use generic Google Maps scrapers if all you need is a cheap list of places. Use this actor when the extra outreach fields save you manual cleanup time.

***

### Troubleshooting

**Run timed out?** Lower `maxResults`, turn `extractEmails` off, or split a broad search into city/category batches.

**Few results?** Try a more specific query such as `dentists in Austin TX` instead of `businesses in USA`.

**No email for some businesses?** Not every business publishes an email. The actor extracts emails that are publicly available on the website/contact/about pages.

**Best first test:** run 10–25 results with `extractEmails: false`, verify the query, then rerun with enrichment if needed.

### Verified tiny sample runs

These are real capped proof runs generated on 2026-08-25 with small limits so new users can see the shape of the output before scaling.

| Search | Items | Run ID | Observed run cost |
|---|---:|---|---:|
| `dentists in Austin TX` | 3 | `sBeeglXrIwLemfoiO` | `$0.0073` |
| `roofers in Phoenix AZ` | 3 | `gsXadwa8sDEtWsM6b` | `$0.0124` |
| `restaurants in Brooklyn NY` | 3 | `SBWwsqABz10s9hHF5` | `$0.0010` |
| `dentists in Austin TX` + website enrichment | 1 | `3OHCCm7IAcX8QLW9f` | `$0.0017` |

Sample output files are kept locally by the maintainer under:

`/home/arjuna/hermes-workspace/apify-actor-fixes/proof-pack-2026-08-25/`

Use this workflow for the first run:

1. Start with one city + one category.
2. Keep `maxResults` between `10` and `50`.
3. Leave `extractEmails` off for the first run.
4. Turn enrichment on only after the Google Maps results look relevant.

Note: email/social enrichment depends on what each business exposes on its website. It is optional and not guaranteed for every business.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Search queries to find businesses on Google Maps. Use specific local searches for best results, e.g. 'dentists in Austin TX', 'plumbers in Phoenix AZ', 'roofing companies in Dallas TX'.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Direct Google Maps URLs to scrape (e.g. a specific business page or search results URL)

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum business results to return. For best reliability, use 10–50 per run. Hard-capped at 150 to avoid timeout-prone public runs.

## `maxCrawledPages` (type: `integer`):

Maximum total Google Maps pages/requests. Keep this modest; large jobs should be split into multiple smaller runs.

## `extractEmails` (type: `boolean`):

Visit each business website to extract emails/social links. Slower and more timeout-prone; keep off for fastest Google Maps lead exports.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy settings. Apify Proxy is recommended to avoid blocks.

## `maxEnrichmentPages` (type: `integer`):

When email/social extraction is enabled, maximum website pages to visit per business. Lower is faster and less likely to time out.

## `websiteRequestTimeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Timeout for each business website enrichment page. Lower values improve reliability on large jobs.

## `businessPageTimeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Maximum time spent processing one Google Maps business page.
