## Pricing

from $1.60 / 1,000 scanned pages

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Broken Image Checker — find 404 images on any page

Scan a page for **broken images**: every `<img>` `src` and `srcset` candidate is HEAD-checked and
flagged if it 404s, errors, or returns a non-image content-type. Also counts **missing `alt`**
attributes. Single URL or bulk. **$0.002 per page.** Failed page fetches are recorded free.

### What you get

- **`broken`** — each broken image with its `src`, HTTP `status`, content-type, and the reason.
- **`imageCount`** checked and **`brokenCount`**.
- **`missingAltCount`** — accessibility signal.
- Follows `srcset` candidates, not just `src`.
- **Fail-soft**: an unreachable page returns `{ok:false, error}`, uncharged; a page that loads but has broken images is a normal (charged) result.

### Input

```json
{ "url": "https://example.com", "urls": ["https://example.org"], "maxUrls": 25 }
```

### Output (real run, 2026-08-07)

```json
{
  "ok": true,
  "url": "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP",
  "pageStatus": 200,
  "imageCount": 22,
  "brokenCount": 1,
  "broken": [
    { "src": "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAutoLogin/start?...", "status": 200, "contentType": "text/javascript; charset=utf-8", "error": "non-image content-type" }
  ],
  "missingAltCount": 6
}
```

### Pricing — $0.002 per page

Prices below checked via the Apify Store API on 2026-08-07:

| Actor | Pricing | One page |
|---|---|---|
| **This actor** | **$0.002 per page** | **$0.002** |
| santamaria-automations/broken-link-checker | $0.001 start + $0.003 per result | $0.004 |
| gp005/seo-onpage-auditor | $0.01 start + $0.005 per page | $0.015 |
| happitap/broken-image-finder | $0.25 start + $0.005 per item | $0.255 |

### Limits (honest ones)

- Checks images declared in the served HTML; images injected by JavaScript are not seen.
- A "broken" verdict includes 4xx/5xx, connection errors, and 2xx responses with a non-image content-type.
- Capped images-per-page and `maxUrls` per run keep runs finite.

### FAQ

- **Does it check srcset?** Yes — every `src` and `srcset` candidate is HEAD-checked.
- **What counts as broken?** A 4xx/5xx, a network error, or a 2xx that isn't actually an image.
- **Does it flag accessibility?** It counts images missing an `alt` attribute.
- **What about a dead page?** You get an `{ok:false, error}` record, uncharged.

### Use from code or AI agents

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/EliAI~webpage-broken-image-checker/runs?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' -d '{"url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP"}'
```

Callable as an agent tool through the Apify MCP server (`mcp.apify.com`).
