## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk URL Checker

Check thousands of URLs in one run: **HTTP status, full redirect chain, response time**, and for HTML pages the **title, meta description, canonical, robots meta, X-Robots-Tag, H1, hreflang, Open Graph, Twitter card and JSON-LD types**.

**$0.60 per 1,000 URLs.** URLs disallowed by robots.txt or that time out are reported and **never charged**.

### Use cases

- **Broken-link and 404 sweeps** across a site, a sitemap or a list of backlinks
- **Redirect audits after a migration:** see every hop, catch loops and chains that are too long
- **SEO checks at scale:** missing titles or descriptions, wrong canonicals, `noindex` left on, multiple H1s, missing structured data
- **Social preview QA:** verify `og:image`, `og:title` and Twitter cards before a launch
- **Uptime and status monitoring** on a schedule

### Quick start

```json
{
    "urls": [{ "url": "http://apify.com" }, { "url": "https://apify.com/this-page-does-not-exist" }],
    "extractTags": true,
    "maxRedirects": 10
}
```

Tip: pair it with **Sitemap URL Extractor** from the same author to check every page of a site.

### Output

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `statusCode`, `finalUrl`, `redirectCount` | Final status after redirects |
| `redirectChain` | Each hop: `url`, `status`, `location` |
| `responseTimeMs` | Total time including redirects |
| `contentType`, `contentLength` | Response details |
| `title`, `metaDescription`, `canonical`, `metaRobots`, `xRobotsTag` | Indexing signals |
| `h1`, `h1Count`, `lang`, `hreflang` | Page structure |
| `openGraph`, `twitter` | Social tags as objects |
| `jsonLdTypes` | Structured data types, for example `Organization`, `Product`, `Article` |
| `ok`, `error` | `ok` is true when the check completed, including 404s |

### Input options

| Option | Default | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `urls` | required | URLs to check |
| `extractTags` | `true` | Parse SEO and social tags on HTML pages |
| `maxRedirects` | `10` | Hops to follow before stopping |
| `timeoutSecs` | `30` | Per URL |
| `maxConcurrency` | `10` | Parallel checks; a per-site pace of about 4 requests per second always applies |

### Good use

One request per URL and redirect hop, robots.txt obeyed for user agent `WilsDataTools`, and no login or bot-protection bypass. Intended for checking your own sites and links, or pages you have a legitimate reason to check.

### Pricing

Pay per event: one event per URL checked (a 404 is a successful check).

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

URLs to check. Each checked URL is one billable event (robots-blocked ones are free).

## `extractTags` (type: `boolean`):

For HTML pages, return title, meta description, canonical, robots meta, hreflang, Open Graph, Twitter card and JSON-LD types.

## `maxRedirects` (type: `integer`):

Stop following after this many hops.

## `timeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Give up on a URL after this long.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many URLs to check at once (per-site pacing still applies).

const run = await client.actor("ennobling_spray/url-checker").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
