# AI Search & Agent Readiness Checker (`ennylabs/ai-search-agent-readiness-checker`) Actor

Scans websites the way AI search crawlers see them. Checks HTTPS, robots.txt for OAI-SearchBot/Claude-SearchBot/PerplexityBot, JSON-LD, llms.txt, content without JS, Shopify readiness, and more. Outputs a score, pass/fail checks, and fix hints.

## Pricing

Pay per usage

This Actor is paid per platform usage. The Actor is free to use, and you only pay for the Apify platform usage, which gets cheaper the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## AI Search & Agent Readiness Checker

Scans a website the way **AI search crawlers** see it (ChatGPT search, Claude search, Perplexity) and reports whether the page is ready for AI agents and AI-powered shopping.

Pay-per-result: about **$0.01–0.02 per URL**.

### What it checks

| Check | Why it matters |
|-------|----------------|
| HTTPS | AI tools and browsers need a valid secure site |
| AI search bots in robots.txt | Only **OAI-SearchBot**, **Claude-SearchBot**, and **PerplexityBot** control visibility in AI search. Blocking **GPTBot** / **ClaudeBot** only affects training data, not ChatGPT or Claude search |
| Readable without JavaScript | Most AI crawlers do not run JS |
| Business JSON-LD | Lets AI tools identify who you are |
| Title, meta, H1 | How the site is summarized in AI answers |
| llms.txt, sitemap, canonical, Open Graph | Discovery and previews |
| Placeholder / template text | AI may quote leftover "Lorem ipsum" as fact |
| Shopify policies & product data | Needed for AI shopping when the store is on Shopify |

Bot-wall pages are flagged as **may** be invisible (confirm by hand).

### Input

```json
{
  "urls": [
    "https://example.com",
    "https://wikipedia.org"
  ]
}
```

Or use Apify `startUrls`.

### Example output (one dataset item)

```json
{
  "url": "https://example.com",
  "host": "example.com",
  "score": 62,
  "invisible_to_ai_search": false,
  "blocked_search_bots": [],
  "blocked_training_bots": [],
  "checks": [
    {
      "id": "https",
      "label": "Site loads over HTTPS with a valid certificate",
      "pass": true,
      "weight": 15,
      "detail": "Final URL https://example.com/",
      "fix": ""
    },
    {
      "id": "schema_business",
      "label": "Business identity code (Organization/LocalBusiness JSON-LD)",
      "pass": false,
      "weight": 20,
      "detail": "JSON-LD types found: none",
      "fix": "Add the JSON-LD block from the Fix Pack to the homepage <head>."
    }
  ],
  "failed_checks": "schema_business, title, meta, h1, ...",
  "fix_hints": [
    { "id": "schema_business", "fix": "Add the JSON-LD block..." }
  ]
}
```

### Use cases

- Agencies auditing client sites for ChatGPT / Perplexity visibility
- Shopify stores preparing for AI shopping
- Bulk monitoring: feed a sitemap or lead list, get scores + fix hints
- Free funnel hook: "Is your site ready for AI agents?"

### Pricing

**Pay per result** — roughly **$0.01–0.02 per URL** (one dataset row = one URL). Compute is cheap (HTTP fetch + HTML parse, no browser).

### Accuracy note

- **GPTBot / ClaudeBot / Google-Extended** = training crawlers only.
- A site is only reported as **invisible to AI search** when robots.txt blocks **OAI-SearchBot**, **Claude-SearchBot**, or **PerplexityBot** (or those bots fail live fetches in a deeper test).
- Always phrase results as findings from this scan ("in this test").

### Local run

```bash
npm install
npm run test-local -- https://example.com https://wikipedia.org https://github.com
```

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "urls": [
        "https://example.com",
        "https://wikipedia.org"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("ennylabs/ai-search-agent-readiness-checker").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
