## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Scraper (Free): Interest, Regions & Trending Now

**Free Google Trends API: get interest over time, interest by region, related queries and related topics for any keyword, country and period, plus today's trending searches in any country.** No Actor fee: you only pay the small Apify platform usage of your run (a few cents for hundreds of keywords, usually covered by the free plan).

- 📈 **Interest over time**: the 0–100 curve for any period (past hour to 2004), with a free summary per term: average, peak and its date, latest value, and trend in %.
- 🗺️ **Interest by region**: where a term is searched most, by country, region/state, city or US metro area.
- 🔎 **Related queries and topics**: top and rising searches, including “Breakout” terms (more than +5,000%), the best source of new content and product ideas.
- ⚖️ **Compare terms**: up to 5 terms on the same scale, like the Compare button on trends.google.com, for as many groups as you want.
- 🔥 **Trending now**: today's trending searches of 120+ countries, with approximate search volume and the news articles behind each trend.
- 🧭 **Every filter of Google Trends**: country or region, category, and search type (web, images, news, YouTube, Google Shopping).

### 🚀 Examples

**Is “electric bike” still growing in the US, and where?**

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["electric bike"],
  "geo": "US",
  "timeRange": "today 5-y"
}
```

**Compare 3 brands on YouTube search, past 12 months:**

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["Notion", "Obsidian", "Evernote"],
  "compareTerms": true,
  "searchProperty": "youtube"
}
```

**What is trending today in the UK, France and Germany:**

```json
{
  "trendingCountries": ["GB", "FR", "DE"]
}
```

### 📦 Output

One row per term and per data type (`interestOverTime`, `interestByRegion`, `relatedQueries`, `relatedTopics`), and one row per trending search (`trendingNow`). Example of a summary:

```json
{
  "type": "interestOverTime",
  "terms": ["electric bike"],
  "geo": "US",
  "timeRange": "today 5-y",
  "summary": [{ "term": "electric bike", "average": 17, "max": 100, "peakDate": "2026-04-12", "latest": 15, "trendPct": 124 }],
  "timeline": [{ "date": "2021-10-10", "label": "Oct 10 – 16, 2021", "values": { "electric bike": 10 }, "partial": false }],
  "exploreUrl": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=electric+bike&date=today+5-y&geo=US"
}
```

Real run of 14 October 2026 (US, past 5 years): interest in “electric bike” more than doubled (+124%), peaked in April 2026, and the rising related searches include breakout brands such as “talaria”.

The dataset has four views: **Interest over time**, **Interest by region**, **Related queries & topics** and **Trending now**. Tick “one row per date” to get a flat table for spreadsheets.

### 💰 Price

**Free.** This Actor charges no fee. Apify bills only the platform usage of your run (compute and proxy), typically a few cents for a run of hundreds of keywords. The Apify free plan includes monthly credit.

### ❓ FAQ

**What do the numbers mean?** Google Trends values are relative: 100 is the peak popularity of the term for the chosen place and period, 50 is half as popular. They are not search volumes. When terms are compared, they share one scale.

**Why do some requests fail with “rate limit”?** Google Trends limits how many requests one IP can make. The Actor changes IP and retries automatically. For hundreds of keywords in one run, choose residential proxies in the Proxy option.

**Where do I find a category ID?** Open trends.google.com, choose a category, and copy the number after `cat=` in the address bar (e.g. 71 = Food & Drink).

**Can I schedule it?** Yes: create a Task with your keywords and schedule it daily or weekly in Apify, then connect the results to Google Sheets, Slack, Make, Zapier or n8n.

**Is it affiliated with Google?** No. It reads the public Google Trends pages, like a visitor would.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Keywords or topics to analyse, one per line (up to 200). Each term is analysed on its own unless you tick “Compare terms”.

## `compareTerms` (type: `boolean`):

Compare the terms against each other on the same 0–100 scale, by groups of 5 (Google's limit), like the Compare button on trends.google.com.

## `geo` (type: `string`):

Two-letter country code (US, GB, FR, DE…) or region code (US-CA, FR-75…). Empty = worldwide.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Time range of the analysis. For a custom range, use “Custom period” below.

## `customTimeRange` (type: `string`):

Optional, overrides Period: two dates “YYYY-MM-DD YYYY-MM-DD”, e.g. “2024-01-01 2024-12-31”.

## `category` (type: `integer`):

Google Trends category number (0 = all categories; e.g. 71 Food & Drink, 958 Shopping, 174 Sports). The ID is the “cat=” value in a trends.google.com URL.

## `searchProperty` (type: `string`):

Which Google search the interest is measured on.

## `interestOverTime` (type: `boolean`):

The 0–100 curve, with a free summary per term: average, peak and its date, latest value, trend in % (last quarter of the period vs first).

## `timelineAsRows` (type: `boolean`):

Output one row per date instead of one row per term with a timeline array (easier in spreadsheets).

## `interestByRegion` (type: `boolean`):

Where the term is most searched: by country (worldwide), by region (in a country) or by city.

## `regionResolution` (type: `string`):

Level of detail of “Interest by region”.

## `relatedQueries` (type: `boolean`):

Top and rising related searches (“Breakout” = more than +5,000%).

## `relatedTopics` (type: `boolean`):

Top and rising related topics (entities such as brands, people, places).

## `trendingCountries` (type: `array`):

Optional: two-letter country codes (US, GB, FR, DE, IN…) to also get today's trending searches, with approximate traffic and the news articles behind each one.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Language of the labels returned by Google (en-US, fr, de, es…).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Google Trends limits requests per IP. Apify Proxy (datacenter) works for small runs; for hundreds of terms, residential proxies avoid “rate limit” refusals.
