Checks many URLs at once and returns the status code, every redirect hop with its status, Location and headers, the final URL, HTTP version and response times, plus a list of redirect problems.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## HTTP Status and Redirect Checker: bulk URLs, full chain

Paste a list of URLs and get, for each one, the status code, every redirect hop, the final URL and how long each step took. Use it to check a site migration's redirect map, campaign links before launch, or a list of pages after a release.

Redirects are followed one hop at a time, so nothing is hidden. For each URL you get:

- The first status code and its text, such as `301 Moved Permanently`
- The final URL and its status
- Every hop in `redirectChain`: step number, URL, status, method, HTTP version, time in milliseconds, the URL it redirects to, and a header summary
- The header summary: `server`, `contentType`, `contentLength`, `location`, `cacheControl`, `xRobotsTag`, `hsts`, `lastModified`, `etag`, `age`, `xCache`, `cfCacheStatus`, `via`, and `setCookieCount`
- The HTTP version of the final response (HTTP/2 when the server offers it) and the total time across all hops
- A category: `ok`, `redirected`, `redirect` (when following is off), `clientError`, `serverError`, `redirectLoop`, `tooManyRedirects`, `redirectError`, `timeout`, `dnsError`, `tlsError`, `connectionError` or `invalidInput`
- An `issues` list: redirect loops, HTTPS to HTTP downgrades, temporary redirects (302, 303, 307), chains of more than one hop, a 3xx with no Location header, and a final status of 400 or above

### Input

- URLs. An address without `http://` or `https://` is checked as `https://`. Duplicates are checked once.
- URLs as text (optional): a pasted list separated by new lines, spaces or commas
- Request method (default GET). HEAD with GET fallback repeats a hop with GET when HEAD fails or answers 400 or above. The response body is never downloaded.
- Follow redirects (default on) and maximum redirects (default 10)
- Include all response headers (default off). Set-Cookie values are replaced by `(value not stored)`; only cookie names are kept.
- Timeout per request (default 20 seconds), parallel requests (default 10), user agent

### Output

Dataset: one item per URL with `url`, `responded`, `status`, `statusText`, `category`, `finalUrl`, `finalStatus`, `finalStatusText`, `redirectCount`, `redirectChain`, `httpVersion`, `totalTimeMs`, `finalHeaders`, `issues`, `error` and `checkedAt`. A URL that fails to connect still gets an item, with the reason in `error`. Export as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read it over the API.

### Pricing

Pay per event: one event per URL checked, including URLs that fail to connect. Entries that are not valid URLs are reported in the dataset and not charged.

### Scope and conduct

It requests only the URLs you give and the redirects they point to. It does not download page bodies, log in or submit anything, and it never stores cookie values.

### Support

Questions and problems: the Issues tab on this page. Replies are written by an AI assistant on behalf of the developer and reviewed by the developer.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

The URLs to check, one per line. An address without http:// or https:// is checked as https://. Duplicates are checked once.

## `urlsText` (type: `string`):

Optional. Paste a list separated by new lines, spaces or commas, for example a column copied from a spreadsheet. Added to the list above.

## `method` (type: `string`):

GET reports what a browser gets. HEAD with GET fallback sends HEAD first and repeats a hop with GET when HEAD fails or answers 400 or above. The response body is never downloaded either way.

## `followRedirects` (type: `boolean`):

Follow each redirect and record every hop. Off: report only the first response and where it points.

## `maxRedirects` (type: `integer`):

Stop following after this many hops and report tooManyRedirects.

## `includeHeaders` (type: `boolean`):

Add every response header of every hop. Set-Cookie values are never stored, only the cookie names. A summary of the main headers is always included.

## `timeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

How long to wait for each hop to answer.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many URLs are checked at the same time.

## `userAgent` (type: `string`):

The User-Agent header sent with every request. Leave empty to send Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; HttpStatusChecker/1.0).

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("examsens.ai/http-status-checker").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
