## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bluesky Scraper — Posts, Search, Profiles & Followers

Get Bluesky data as clean JSON, CSV or Excel: search posts by keyword, pull every post from any account, collect all replies to a post, and export profiles, followers, following, likers and reposters. All modes except post search work without a login. Post search needs a free Bluesky app password, because Bluesky requires login for search. It costs **$0.95 per 1,000 results**.

### What can this Bluesky scraper do?

| Mode | Input | You get |
|---|---|---|
| **Search posts** (needs Bluesky app password) | keywords, phrases, `#hashtags`, `from:handle` | Matching posts, newest first (or top), with date range, language, author, mention and domain filters |
| **Posts of users** | handles or profile URLs | A user's posts and replies (optionally reposts), with a date range |
| **Post replies / thread** | post URLs | The original post and its replies, nested up to the depth you choose (each reply has `threadDepth`) |
| **Profiles** | handles or profile URLs | Bio, follower/following/post counts, join date, verification, avatar/banner |
| **Search users** | keywords | Matching accounts with full profile details |
| **Followers / Following** | handles | The accounts that follow (or are followed by) each user, with profile details |
| **Likers / Reposters** | post URLs | Who liked or reposted a post (likers include `likedAt`) |

### What data can you get?

Every item also has `type`, `sourceType`, `sourceInput` (the query, handle or URL that produced it) and `scrapedAt`.

### How to use it

1. Choose **What to scrape**, for example "Posts of users" or "Search posts by keyword".
2. Enter handles, post URLs or search queries, and optionally a date range and language.
3. Click **Start**. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or fetch them via the API.

#### Searching posts: add a Bluesky app password

Bluesky no longer allows post search without login, so the **Search posts** mode needs a Bluesky account. No other mode does.

1. Log in to Bluesky with any account. We recommend a separate, throwaway account made just for scraping.
2. Open **[bsky.app/settings/app-passwords](https://bsky.app/settings/app-passwords)** (Settings → Privacy and security → App passwords) and click **Add App Password**.
3. Copy the generated password (it looks like `xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx`) into **Bluesky app password**, and put the account's handle (e.g. `myname.bsky.social`) into **Bluesky handle**.

An app password is not your main password. It cannot change your account settings, and you can revoke it anytime. The Actor stores it encrypted as a secret input and never logs it. The Actor uses it only to call Bluesky's official search API, and it never posts, likes or follows anything.

### Pricing

**$0.95 per 1,000 results.** You pay only for the items saved to your dataset. Use **Maximum results** (`maxItems`) or the run's maximum charge to cap your spend, and the run stops once it reaches either limit.

### Use cases

- **Brand and topic monitoring:** track mentions of your brand, product, competitors or hashtags, day by day.
- **Social listening and sentiment analysis:** export thousands of posts with language tags for NLP or dashboards.
- **Influencer research:** find accounts by keyword and compare follower counts and engagement.
- **Audience analysis:** export the followers of an account, or who liked and reposted a viral post.
- **Conversation analysis:** collect every reply to a post, with its nesting depth.
- **Academic research and journalism:** build reproducible datasets of public posts within a date range.
- **AI agents and LLM pipelines:** connect the Actor to Claude, ChatGPT or your own agent through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com), or feed the results to RAG and summarization workflows.

### FAQ

**Is it legal to scrape Bluesky?**
This Actor reads only public data through Bluesky's official public API, the same data anyone can see without logging in. It does not bypass access controls or collect private data such as emails or phone numbers. You are responsible for using the data in line with applicable laws (e.g. GDPR) and Bluesky's terms.

**Do I need a Bluesky account, cookies or proxies?**
Only for **Search posts**. That mode needs a Bluesky handle and app password (see "Searching posts" above), because Bluesky requires authentication for post search. User posts, threads, profiles, user search, followers, following, likers and reposters all use Bluesky's open public API with no login. You never need cookies or proxies.

**Is my app password safe?**
It is a secret input, so it is stored encrypted and never written to the log or the dataset. An app password cannot change your account settings, and you can revoke it at bsky.app/settings/app-passwords. We still recommend a throwaway account.

**Search says "Bluesky login failed"?**
Check that the handle is complete (e.g. `myname.bsky.social`) and that you used an app password, not your main password. Accounts with email 2FA must use an app password.

**How many posts can a keyword search return?**
The Actor follows Bluesky's search pagination until there are no more results or `maxItems` is reached. Bluesky's search index returns at most about 10,000 hits per query, so for very popular terms run several date ranges (`since`/`until`).

**Why are a few replies missing from a thread?**
Bluesky hides replies that are deleted or blocked, or that the author's thread settings restrict, and it limits very large threads. Use `threadDepth` to control how deep the Actor goes.

**Can I search by hashtag?**
Yes. Enter `#hashtag` as a query. You can also use Bluesky's search syntax, such as `"exact phrase"`, `from:handle`, `mentions:handle` and `-excludedword`.

**Something isn't working?**
Open an issue on the Actor's Issues tab with your input, and we will fix it quickly.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

Choose the type of data. Search modes use 'Search queries'; user modes use 'Handles'; thread/likers/reposters use 'Post URLs'.

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Keywords or phrases for 'Search posts' and 'Search users'. Supports Bluesky search syntax, e.g. "exact phrase", #hashtag, from:handle, -excluded. Note: 'Search posts' requires a Bluesky handle + app password (see below); 'Search users' works without login.

## `handles` (type: `array`):

Bluesky handles (alice.bsky.social, @alice, or just 'alice'), DIDs, or profile URLs like https://bsky.app/profile/alice.bsky.social. Used by user posts, profiles, followers and following.

## `postUrls` (type: `array`):

Post URLs like https://bsky.app/profile/bsky.app/post/3l6oveex3ii2l (or at:// URIs). Used by thread, likers and reposters modes.

## `blueskyHandle` (type: `string`):

Bluesky no longer allows post search without login. For the 'Search posts' mode, enter the handle of a Bluesky account (e.g. myname.bsky.social). We recommend a separate throwaway account. All other modes work without login.

## `blueskyAppPassword` (type: `string`):

An app password, NOT your main password. Create one at https://bsky.app/settings/app-passwords (Settings > Privacy and security > App passwords); you can revoke it anytime. Stored encrypted and never logged.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of results saved across all inputs. You pay only for results saved.

## `maxItemsPerInput` (type: `integer`):

Optional limit per search query / handle / post URL. 0 = no per-input limit (only the total limit applies).

## `sort` (type: `string`):

For 'Search posts'. 'latest' = newest first; 'top' = Bluesky's relevance/engagement ranking.

## `since` (type: `string`):

Only posts created on/after this date. 'YYYY-MM-DD', a full ISO timestamp, or relative like '7 days', '24 hours'. Applies to 'Search posts' and 'Posts of users'.

## `until` (type: `string`):

Only posts created before this date (a plain date includes that whole day). Same formats as 'Posts from'. Applies to 'Search posts' and 'Posts of users'.

## `lang` (type: `string`):

For 'Search posts': only posts tagged with this language code, e.g. en, de, ja, pt.

## `author` (type: `string`):

For 'Search posts': restrict results to posts by this handle.

## `mentions` (type: `string`):

For 'Search posts': restrict to posts mentioning this handle.

## `domain` (type: `string`):

For 'Search posts': restrict to posts linking to this domain, e.g. nytimes.com.

## `feedFilter` (type: `string`):

For 'Posts of users': which posts to include from each profile.

## `includeReposts` (type: `boolean`):

For 'Posts of users': also include posts the user reposted (marked with isRepost=true).

## `threadDepth` (type: `integer`):

For 'Post replies / thread': how many levels of nested replies to fetch (1 = direct replies only).

## `includeRootPost` (type: `boolean`):

For 'Post replies / thread': also output the post itself (threadDepth 0) before its replies.

## `sortReplies` (type: `string`):

For 'Post replies / thread': order of direct replies.

## `includeProfileDetails` (type: `boolean`):

For followers, following, likers, reposters and user search: fetch follower/following/post counts for each user (1 extra request per 25 users).
