## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Capterra Reviews Scraper

Collect software reviews and product ratings from the Capterra / GetApp / Software Advice review platform. The three sites share one review database; this Actor reads it through Software Advice, so you get the same reviews without logging in and without a browser.

Search products by name, paste Capterra, GetApp or Software Advice product links, or point it at a Software Advice category. For every product you get its reviews (newest first, any star rating, any company size) and optionally one summary record with the rating, review count, rating breakdown, categories and top pros and cons.

### What you get

**Review record** (`recordType: "review"`): title, overall rating, ease of use, customer support, functionality and value-for-money ratings, pros, cons, overall comments, why the reviewer chose or switched, reviewer industry and company size band, verified flag, time used, frequency of use, incentive, vendor reply, publish date and the product it belongs to.

**Product record** (`recordType: "product"`): name, URLs, main category and all categories, logo, description, overall rating, total reviews, rating breakdown (1-5 stars), sub-ratings, likelihood to recommend, highlighted pros and cons, supported platforms.

No reviewer names, photos or profile links are collected or output: only non-identifying attributes (industry, company size).

### Input examples

Latest 25 reviews of one product (default):

```json
{ "searchTerms": ["Zoho CRM"], "maxReviewsPerProduct": 25 }
```

Every 1- and 2-star review of two products from the last six months:

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["HubSpot", "Pipedrive"],
  "ratings": ["1", "2"],
  "reviewsNewerThan": "2026-04-01",
  "maxReviewsPerProduct": 0,
  "maxItems": 5000
}
```

```json
{ "productUrls": ["https://www.capterra.com/p/135003/Slack/"], "categoryUrls": ["https://www.softwareadvice.com/crm/"], "productsPerCategory": 5 }
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Review scraped | US$1.50 per 1,000 |
| Product summary | US$1.00 per 1,000 |

`maxItems` and your spending limit are respected exactly: the run stops as soon as either is reached.

### FAQ

**Does it need a login or API key?** No.

**How many reviews can I get?** All of them: popular products have thousands, fetched 25 per request.

**Why Software Advice links in the output?** Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice show the same reviews; the `productUrl` points to the page the data was read from.

**Can I monitor new reviews?** Yes: schedule a run with `reviewsNewerThan` set to yesterday.

**Is personal data included?** No reviewer names, photos or profile links. Review text is public content written by the reviewer.

### Use cases

Competitor and vendor research, sales prospecting by pain point (low-rated reviews of a rival), product feedback mining, market sizing by category, review monitoring for software vendors, training data for sentiment analysis.
