## Pricing

from $1.50 / 1,000 patent scrapeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Patents Scraper

Search Google Patents and export the results as JSON, CSV or Excel: publication number, title, assignee, first inventor, priority / filing / grant / publication dates, country, status and PDF link. Switch on **details** to add the abstract, the claims, CPC classes, all inventors and assignees, legal status and events, citations, cited-by and the patent family.

No login and no API key. Inventors are output as names only, exactly as printed on the public patent record.

### What you get

Always (one record per patent):

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| `publicationNumber`, `url`, `pdfUrl` | `US9000000B2`, patents.google.com link, PDF |
| `title`, `snippet` | patent title and the matching text excerpt |
| `assignee`, `inventor` | `WIPERFILL HOLDINGS LLC`, first listed inventor |
| `countryCode`, `kindCode`, `language` | `US`, `B2`, `en` |
| `priorityDate`, `filingDate`, `grantDate`, `publicationDate` | `2012-03-13` |
| `status` | `Active`, `Expired`, `Pending`... |

With details (`fetchDetails` or `patentNumbers`):

| Field | Content |
|---|---|
| `abstract`, `claims[]`, `claimsCount`, `independentClaimsCount` | full claim texts |
| `cpcCodes` | CPC classification codes |
| `inventors`, `assigneesOriginal`, `assigneeCurrent` | all names as listed |
| `applicationNumber`, `expirationDate`, `legalStatus`, `events[]` | legal timeline |
| `citations[]`, `citedBy[]` (+ counts) | cited and citing patents (first 100 each) |
| `familyMembers`, `familySize` | family publications |
| `description` | full text, only if `includeDescription` is on |

### Input examples

Recent granted US and European patents about a topic:

```json
{ "query": "solid state battery electrolyte", "countries": ["US", "EP"], "status": "grant", "dateFrom": "2025-01-01", "sort": "newest", "maxItems": 200 }
```

Everything a company filed, with full details:

```json
{ "assignee": "Tesla", "fetchDetails": true, "maxItems": 100 }
```

Specific patents:

```json
{ "patentNumbers": ["US9000000B2", "EP3000000A1"] }
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

| Event | When |
|---|---|
| `patent-result` | one patent saved |
| `patent-details` | one patent enriched with its full page |

Plus a tiny run-start fee. See the Pricing tab for current prices; paid Apify plans get lower rates. Set a maximum cost per run in the Apify console and the Actor stops cleanly at that limit.

### FAQ

**How many patents can one run return?** Google shows at most 1,000 results per search. For bigger runs the Actor slices the search by year and then by month and de-duplicates, so a broad query can reach thousands of patents.

**Why does a run slow down?** Google throttles automated traffic, so the Actor paces its requests and waits after a block; it switches to residential proxies by itself when needed.

**Are machine-translated texts included?** Yes, the English translation Google Patents shows for non-English documents is used.

**Is the data legal advice or a legal-status guarantee?** No. Status and dates are what Google Patents displays; verify with the patent office before relying on them.

### Use cases

Prior-art and landscape research, competitor R\&D monitoring, assignee portfolios, technology scouting, citation analysis, investor due diligence, feeding patent text to AI pipelines.

# Actor input Schema

## `query` (type: `string`):

Google Patents query: keywords, phrases in quotes, boolean operators (`(solid state) AND battery`) and field codes such as `CPC=H01M10/0562`. Leave empty if you search by assignee or inventor only.

## `assignee` (type: `string`):

Company or organisation that owns the patent, e.g. `Tesla`, `Samsung SDI`, `Massachusetts Institute of Technology`.

## `inventor` (type: `string`):

Inventor name as printed on the patent (bibliographic data of the patent record).

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Office codes: `US`, `EP`, `WO`, `CN`, `JP`, `KR`, `DE`, `GB`, `FR`... Leave empty for all offices.

## `status` (type: `string`):

`grant` = granted patents only, `application` = published applications only.

## `patentType` (type: `string`):

Restrict to utility patents or design patents.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Optional, e.g. `ENGLISH`, `GERMAN`, `CHINESE`, `JAPANESE`.

## `dateType` (type: `string`):

Which date `From date`, `To date` and the year/month slicing use.

## `dateFrom` (type: `string`):

Only patents with the chosen date on or after this day (YYYY-MM-DD).

## `dateTo` (type: `string`):

Only patents with the chosen date on or before this day (YYYY-MM-DD).

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Result ordering. `newest` / `oldest` use the publication date.

## `patentNumbers` (type: `array`):

Skip the search and fetch these patents directly: `US9000000B2`, `EP3000000A1` or patents.google.com/patent/... URLs. Details are always included in this mode.

## `fetchDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Open each patent page (1 extra request per patent) to add abstract, claims, CPC codes, all inventors and assignees, legal status, events, citations, cited-by and family. Billed with the separate `patent-details` event.

## `includeDescription` (type: `boolean`):

With details: also save the full patent description (up to 60,000 characters). Makes items much larger.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many patents. One search returns at most 1,000; bigger runs are sliced by year and month automatically.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify datacenter proxy by default; the Actor switches to residential proxies by itself if Google blocks it.
