## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Product Hunt Scraper

Collect Product Hunt launches and products as JSON, CSV or Excel: name, tagline, description, website, topics and categories, votes, comments, daily / weekly / monthly rank, rating, review count, followers and the product's social links.

It reads the public website, so it needs no API token and no login. Makers, hunters and commenters are individual people and are never collected: the data is about products and companies only.

### Three ways to use it

| Mode | What it returns |
|---|---|
| `leaderboard` | The launches of a daily, weekly or monthly leaderboard (the first 15-17 of each page), walking back day by day / week by week / month by month from a date you choose |
| `category` | Every product of a Product Hunt category such as `ai-agents` (15 per page, fully paginated) with rating and review counts |
| `products` | The pages of the products you name (`figma`, `notion`, product URLs) |

### Input examples

The last 30 days of daily launches with at least 100 votes:

```json
{ "mode": "leaderboard", "period": "daily", "dateFrom": "2026-09-13", "dateTo": "2026-10-12", "minVotes": 100, "maxItems": 500 }
```

All products in a category:

```json
{ "mode": "category", "categories": ["ai-agents"], "maxItems": 300 }
```

Specific products, fast and light:

```json
{ "mode": "products", "products": ["figma", "https://www.producthunt.com/products/notion"] }
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "id": "1336540",
  "name": "MentionBird",
  "tagline": "Ahrefs for AI Search",
  "url": "https://www.producthunt.com/products/mentionbird",
  "website": "https://www.mentionbird.ai",
  "topics": ["Marketing", "SEO", "Artificial Intelligence"],
  "categories": ["SEO tools", "GEO Tools"],
  "votes": 131,
  "commentsCount": 16,
  "dailyRank": 6,
  "weeklyRank": 12,
  "rating": 5,
  "reviewsCount": 5,
  "followersCount": 181,
  "launchDate": "2026-10-13T00:01:00-07:00",
  "leaderboard": "daily:2026-10-13"
}
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| `product-result` - one product / launch saved | **US$1.00 per 1,000** |

Plus a tiny run-start fee. Set a maximum cost per run in the Apify console and the Actor stops cleanly at that limit.

### FAQ

**Why only 15-17 launches per leaderboard page?** That is what Product Hunt renders on the page itself; the rest loads in the browser through a private API that this Actor does not use. To cover more, scrape a range of days, or use categories, which paginate completely.

**Does it include makers?** No. People are left out on purpose.

**What if Product Hunt slows me down?** The Actor paces its requests, retries, skips a product page it cannot open (the launch data is still saved) and switches to residential proxies by itself if it is blocked.

**Is the `votes` number live?** It is the vote count at the moment of the run.

### Use cases

Launch tracking and trend analysis, competitor and category monitoring, lead lists of new SaaS and AI products with their websites, content and newsletter research.
