## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Reviews + Insights Report

Download **iOS App Store reviews from many countries at once** and get an **instant insights report**
for every app — no spreadsheet work, no AI credits.

### What the insights report tells you

- **Top complaint themes** with their share of negative reviews: crashes/bugs, login/account,
  pricing/subscription, ads, performance, UI/UX, customer support, notifications, sync/data loss,
  privacy, and feature requests — each with the most-upvoted example.
- **Top negative and positive phrases** (2- and 3-word phrases people repeat).
- **Rating by app version** — spot the release that broke things.
- **Rating by month and by country.**
- **Most helpful critical reviews** — the complaints other users agree with.

Real example (Duolingo, 600 recent reviews, US/GB/IN): 18% negative; subscription/pricing mentioned in
33% of negative reviews; latest version 7.141.1 averages 3.85★ vs 4.55★ two releases earlier;
India rates the app 4.3★ vs 3.8★ in the US.

### Who it's for

- **ASO and app marketers** — track sentiment after every release.
- **Product managers** — turn reviews into a prioritised bug and feature list.
- **Competitor research** — see exactly why users dislike a rival app.
- **Agencies** — generate a client-ready review audit in one run.

### Input

```json
{
  "apps": [
    "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/duolingo-language-lessons/id570060128",
    "spotify"
  ],
  "countries": ["us", "gb", "ca", "au", "in"],
  "maxReviewsPerCountry": 500,
  "sort": "mostrecent",
  "outputReviews": true,
  "outputInsights": true
}
```

Apps can be App Store URLs, numeric IDs, or names (best match). Apple publishes up to 500 recent
reviews per country; adding countries gives you more reviews.

### Output

The dataset contains two row types:

- `type: "review"` — rating, title, text, version, author, date, votes, country and detected `themes`.
- `type: "insights"` — one report per app (distribution, themes, phrases, versions, monthly, countries,
  most helpful negatives) plus app metadata (store rating, rating count, current version).

Switch off `outputReviews` if you only want the reports.

### Pricing

Pay per event: a small fee per review saved, and a fixed fee per insights report.

### Data source

Apple's public customer-review feeds and the iTunes lookup API. No login or scraping of private data.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

App Store URLs (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/.../id284882215), numeric IDs, or app names (best match is used).

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter App Store country codes. Apple publishes up to 500 recent reviews per country, so more countries = more reviews.

## `maxReviewsPerCountry` (type: `integer`):

Apple publishes up to 500 recent reviews per country store.

## `outputReviews` (type: `boolean`):

Save each review as a dataset row.

## `outputInsights` (type: `boolean`):

One summary row per app with complaint themes, phrases, version and country breakdowns.
