## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Monitor — brand and keyword alerts with real article URLs

Track any brand, person, competitor or topic on Google News. **Each run returns only the articles you
haven't received yet**, so you can schedule it hourly or daily and pipe the results straight into
Slack, email, a sheet or a webhook without duplicates.

- **Real publisher URLs**: Google News links are redirects; this actor resolves them to the
  article's own URL (`articleUrl`), so you can open, archive or summarise the article directly.
- **Only new articles**: pay only for news you haven't seen. Turn `onlyNew` off to get everything.
- **Google search operators**: `"exact phrase"`, `OR`, `-exclude`, `site:reuters.com`, `intitle:`.
- **Any country edition**: US, UK, India, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Japan and more.
- **Exclude sources** you don't want (aggregators, competitors' blogs).

### Who uses this

- **PR and comms teams**: brand and executive mentions, crisis alerts.
- **Sales**: news triggers on target accounts (funding, launches, leadership changes).
- **Investors and analysts**: watch portfolio companies and sectors.
- **Content creators and newsletters**: a daily feed of fresh stories in your niche.

### Input

```json
{
  "queries": ["OpenAI", "\"electric vehicles\" battery", "Tesla -stock"],
  "timeRange": "1d",
  "edition": "US:en",
  "onlyNew": true,
  "stateKey": "my-brand-monitor",
  "excludeSources": ["msn.com"]
}
```

### Output (one row per new article)

```json
{
  "query": "OpenAI",
  "title": "OpenAI parts ways with researchers who allegedly shared confidential information",
  "source": "CBS News",
  "sourceDomain": "cbsnews.com",
  "publishedAt": "2026-10-01T16:41:00.000Z",
  "articleUrl": "https://www.cbsnews.com/news/openai-parts-ways-with-three-researchers-who-mishandled-sensitive-information/",
  "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMi...",
  "firstSeenAt": "2026-10-01T17:05:12.000Z",
  "edition": "US:en"
}
```

If nothing new was published since the last run, the run returns one free status row instead.

### Pricing

Pay per new article delivered. Articles you've already received are never charged again when
`onlyNew` is on.

### FAQ

**How many articles per query?** Google News returns up to 100 per query and run. For busy topics,
use a shorter time range or schedule more often.

**Is `articleUrl` always filled?** Almost always. If Google doesn't resolve a link, the row keeps the
Google News link, which still opens the article.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

One per line: a brand, person, competitor or topic. Google News operators work: "exact phrase", OR, -exclude, site:reuters.com, intitle:word.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Only articles published within this window.

## `edition` (type: `string`):

Country:language, e.g. US:en, GB:en, IN:en, AU:en, CA:fr, DE:de, FR:fr, ES:es, BR:pt-419, JP:ja.

## `maxArticlesPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Google News returns up to 100 articles per query and run.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Remember articles from earlier runs and return (and charge for) only articles you haven't received yet. Turn off to get everything in the time range.

## `stateKey` (type: `string`):

Name for this monitor. Use a different name for each separate monitor, so their histories don't mix.

## `resolveUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Turn Google News redirect links into the publisher's own article URL.

## `excludeSources` (type: `array`):

Optional. Publisher domains to leave out, e.g. yahoo.com, msn.com.

```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
