## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Google Trending Now gets the searches trending on Google right now, for one country or fifty, with Google's traffic estimate, the time each trend started and the news stories driving it.

- **Many countries in one run.** Pass `US`, `CA`, `GB`, `IN` and more; each trend comes back tagged with its country and rank.
- **Numbers you can sort.** Google's "10K+" labels are also given as plain numbers.
- **The why behind each trend:** up to three related news articles with source, link and image.

### What trending search data you get

| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| `country`, `rank` | Country code and position in Google's list |
| `query` | The trending search |
| `approxTraffic`, `approxTrafficMin` | Google's label (like `20K+`) and the same as a number |
| `startedAt` | When the trend started |
| `picture`, `pictureSource` | The image Google shows and its publisher |
| `news` | Related articles: title, URL, source, image |
| `exploreUrl` | Link to the term on Google Trends for the past day |

### How to get Google trending searches

1. Add country codes, for example `US` and `CA`.
2. Keep **Include news stories** on if you want the articles.
3. Run it, or schedule it every hour to build your own history of what trended and when.

#### Example input

```json
{ "countries": ["US", "CA", "GB"], "includeNews": true }
```

#### Example output (one trend, shortened)

```json
{
  "country": "CA",
  "rank": 1,
  "query": "zimbabwe vs india",
  "approxTraffic": "200+",
  "approxTrafficMin": 200,
  "startedAt": "2026-10-28T09:50:00.000Z",
  "news": [
    { "title": "India vs Zimbabwe Women 3rd ODI Live Score ...", "url": "https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...", "source": "The Times of India" }
  ],
  "exploreUrl": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=zimbabwe+vs+india&geo=CA&date=now+1-d"
}
```

### How much does it cost?

You pay per trend saved: $0.002 per trend, plus $0.0005 once per run. Google lists up to 10 trends per country at a time, so checking 10 countries returns about 100 trends and costs about $0.20. An hourly schedule for one country is about 240 trends a day, roughly $0.50. Unknown country codes cost nothing and are listed in the `PROBLEMS` record of the run.

### Trending searches use cases

- **Newsrooms and content creators:** find what people are searching for before you write or film.
- **Marketers:** jump on rising topics in each market you sell to.
- **Data collection:** schedule hourly runs to keep a history of trends by country.
- **AI agents:** give an agent a fresh "what is happening now" feed through the Apify MCP server.

### FAQ

**Why only about 10 trends per country?**
That is how many Google's own trending feed publishes at a time. Run it on a schedule to capture more over a day.

**How fresh is the data?**
It is read from Google the moment the Actor runs.

**Does it work for every country?**
It works for every country Google Trends covers. Codes Google does not support are skipped with a message.
