## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Company Enrichment by Domain: Verified on Official Registers

Give it a list of company websites and get, for each one, the legal entity behind the site: the company number or VAT number the site itself discloses, confirmed on the official company register, with the page and the sentence it came from.

Company-level data only. No directors, owners, contact names, emails or phone numbers, even when the page shows them.

### What you get for each website

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Identifiers found | UK company number `09263424`, SIREN `433115904`, Norwegian organisation number `918713867`, Finnish Business ID `2905040-7`, German register number `HRB 24498` (with its court), VAT numbers |
| Evidence | the page URL and the sentence around each number, plus the legal name stated next to it |
| Company | register, number, name, legal form, status, incorporation date, industry codes, town and postcode district, link to the register page |
| Match confidence | `exact`, `probable`, `conflict` or `unverified`, with the reason in plain words |
| Registers checked | which register was asked about which number, and what it said |

### How the match is decided

- **exact**: the register's name for the number equals the legal name the site states.
- **probable**: the same name apart from the legal form ("Vipps MobilePay" and "VIPPS MOBILEPAY AS"), or the register's name matches the domain.
- **conflict**: the site states a number the register does not have, or names a different company next to it than the register does.
- **unverified**: there was nothing to confirm with: no number on the site, a number from a country whose register has no free lookup (Germany), or the register could not be reached.

It never guesses silently: every row says why.

### Registers it checks

| Country | Register | Numbers it reads on the site |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | Companies House | company number (also Scottish, Northern Irish and LLP numbers) |
| France | Sirene, through the French business directory | SIREN, SIRET, French VAT number |
| Norway | Brønnøysund Register Centre | organisation number |
| Finland | Finnish Patent and Registration Office | Business ID (Y-tunnus), Finnish VAT number |
| Ireland | Companies Registration Office open data | company number |
| Germany | none (no free lookup) | Handelsregister number and court, VAT number: reported, not confirmed |

VAT numbers of other countries are reported as found and are not checked against a VAT register.

### Use it for

- **Supplier and customer checks**: who really runs this website, and is that company active?
- **Lead lists**: turn a list of websites into registered companies with industry codes and location.
- **Data cleaning**: attach the official company number to the domains in your CRM.
- **AI agents**: a structured, evidence-backed answer to "which company is behind this site?".

### How to use it

1. Add websites or domains, one per line (`octopus.energy`, `https://www.vipps.no/`).
2. Run it. Each website becomes one row you can download as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read through the API.

Leave the input empty and it checks one example site, so you can see the output first.

### Input example

```json
{
  "domains": ["octopus.energy", "kahoot.com", "scaleway.com"],
  "maxPagesPerDomain": 6
}
```

### Output example

Real output for one website (shortened):

```json
{
  "domain": "kahoot.com",
  "identifiersFound": [
    {
      "type": "no-org-number",
      "value": "997770234",
      "country": "NO",
      "pageUrl": "https://trust.kahoot.com/privacy-policy/",
      "snippet": "“ Kahoot! ” means Kahoot! AS, organization number 997 770 234",
      "statedName": "Kahoot! AS"
    }
  ],
  "company": {
    "register": "no-brreg",
    "number": "997770234",
    "name": "KAHOOT! AS",
    "legalForm": "AS",
    "status": "active",
    "incorporatedOn": "2011-12-15",
    "sicOrActivityCodes": ["62.100"],
    "registeredArea": "OSLO 0160",
    "registerUrl": "https://virksomhet.brreg.no/nb/oppslag/enheter/997770234"
  },
  "matchConfidence": "exact",
  "matchReason": "The register name \"KAHOOT! AS\" equals the name stated on the site (\"Kahoot! AS\")",
  "sourcesChecked": [{ "register": "no-brreg", "number": "997770234", "result": "found" }],
  "pagesChecked": ["https://kahoot.com/", "https://trust.kahoot.com/terms-and-conditions/", "https://trust.kahoot.com/privacy-policy/"]
}
```

### Pricing

You pay only for rows with something in them.

| What | Price |
|---|---|
| Company confirmed on a register (exact or probable match) | $0.006 each ($6 per 1,000) |
| Identifiers found, but no register could confirm them | $0.002 each |
| Run start | $0.00005 per run (5 cents per 1,000 runs) |

Websites with no identifier, websites that cannot be reached and failed rows are free. The example run is free.

Free Apify plan: up to 25 websites per run.

### Good to know

- **What it reads**: the public homepage and at most five more public pages per site (legal notice, imprint, terms, privacy, about, contact), found through the site's own links or the usual addresses. It stops as soon as it has a number a register can confirm. No browser, no logins, no cookies.
- **Polite by design**: robots.txt is respected, including its crawl delay, and requests to one site are spaced out. Sites that block automated visitors are reported as such and never worked around.
- **Sites that build their footer in the browser** may show nothing to read; those rows come back without identifiers, free of charge.
- **People are never returned**: snippets stop before names of directors or contacts, and a register entry that belongs to a sole trader (a person) is left out.
- **Addresses**: only the town and postcode district of the registered office, never street lines.
- **Speed**: a few seconds per site; sites that ask for a crawl delay take longer.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Company websites, as bare domains (octopus.energy) or URLs (https://www.vipps.no/). Each becomes one row. Duplicates are removed; a value that is not a public domain returns a free error row. If empty, the run checks one example site (starlingbank.com), free of charge.

## `maxPagesPerDomain` (type: `integer`):

Pages read on each site, homepage included (1-6). The actor stops early once it has found a number a register can confirm.

## `companiesHouseApiKey` (type: `string`):

Your own free Companies House API key, if you want UK look-ups to use your own rate limit. Leave empty to use the actor's key.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "starlingbank.com",
    "vipps.no",
    "scaleway.com"
  ],
  "maxPagesPerDomain": 6
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per website: the identifiers it discloses and the company the register confirms.
