## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Website Contact Extractor: Emails, Phones, Socials & Imprint

Give this Actor a list of company websites and it returns the public contact details of every site as one clean record: **email addresses**, **phone numbers** (normalized to E.164), **social media profile links** (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, GitHub, Xing), the **contact pages** it found, and, for German, Austrian and Swiss websites, the **imprint (Impressum) data**: legal company name, managing directors, VAT ID, commercial register number and court, and postal address.

It is built for sales and marketing teams, recruiters, agencies, researchers and anyone who needs a fast website contact scraper or email finder for a list of domains. It works with plain HTTP requests only (no headless browser), so runs are quick and cheap.

**You pay only for websites where contacts were found.** Websites with no email, phone or social profile are still returned with a status, at no charge.

The Actor respects `robots.txt` on every website it visits.

### What data you get

One dataset item per website.

| Field | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `inputUrl` | string | The website exactly as you entered it |
| `domain` | string | Domain without `www.` |
| `finalUrl` | string | URL of the homepage after redirects |
| `emails` | string\[] | Unique email addresses, lowercase. Addresses on the website's own domain come first |
| `phones` | object\[] | Unique phone numbers as `{ "e164": "+4930123456", "raw": "030 123456" }` |
| `socials` | object | Profile URLs per network: `linkedin`, `facebook`, `instagram`, `twitter`, `youtube`, `tiktok`, `pinterest`, `github`, `xing` (each an array) |
| `contactPages` | string\[] | Contact, about, imprint, legal, team and support pages that were found and read |
| `imprint` | object or null | `companyName`, `managingDirectors[]`, `vatId`, `registerNumber`, `registerCourt`, `address`. `null` when no imprint was found |
| `pagesScraped` | number | Homepage plus extra pages that were read |
| `status` | string | `ok`, `no-contacts`, `unreachable`, `blocked` or `robots-disallowed` |
| `error` | string or null | Reason when the status is not `ok` or `no-contacts` |
| `scrapedAt` | string | ISO timestamp |

#### Status values

- `ok`: at least one email, phone or social profile was found (charged).
- `no-contacts`: the website was read but nothing usable was found (free). `imprint` may still be filled.
- `unreachable`: the domain does not resolve, times out, or the homepage returned an error (free).
- `blocked`: the website answered with HTTP 403 or a bot-protection challenge page. The Actor does not try to get around protection (free).
- `robots-disallowed`: the website's `robots.txt` does not allow crawling the homepage (free).

#### How extraction works

- **Emails** are read from `mailto:` links, visible text, JSON-LD data and common obfuscations (`name [at] domain [dot] com`, `(at)`, `AT`/`DOT`, HTML entities, Cloudflare email protection). Image file names such as `logo@2x.png`, placeholders such as `name@example.com` and error-tracking IDs are filtered out. Addresses that only appear in the imprint and belong to someone else (for example a web agency credit) are dropped.
- **Phones** come from `tel:` links first, plus numbers in the text that carry a phone label (Tel, Telefon, Phone, Mobil, Hotline) or an international prefix. Numbers labelled Fax are ignored. Numbers are validated with libphonenumber. Numbers without an international prefix are parsed with your `defaultCountry`, then with the country of the website's domain ending (for example `.de`).
- **Social links** are classified as real profiles. Share buttons, posts, intents and login links are ignored.
- **Contact pages** are found through links on the homepage whose address or text matches words like contact, kontakt, about, ueber-uns, impressum, imprint, legal, team, support, mentions-legales, aviso-legal, note-legali or contacto. If no imprint or contact page is linked, the Actor tries `/impressum`, `/kontakt` and `/contact`.
- **Imprint data** is read from the Impressum or legal notice page. The parser is conservative: a field is `null` or empty rather than guessed.

### How to use

1. Open the Actor and add your websites to **Websites**. Full URLs and bare domains both work.
2. Set **Max extra pages per website** (default 5). Use `0` for the homepage only.
3. Set **Default country for phone numbers** to the country of most of your leads (for example `DE`, `GB`, `US`).
4. Click **Start**. Download the results as JSON, CSV, Excel or via the API.

### Input parameters

| Parameter | Type | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `startUrls` | string\[] | three sample sites | Websites to process. Full URLs or bare domains, one result per website |
| `maxPagesPerSite` | integer | `5` | Extra contact-like pages read per website on top of the homepage (0 to 15) |
| `defaultCountry` | string | `US` | ISO country code used to parse phone numbers without an international prefix |
| `maxConcurrency` | integer | `10` | Websites processed in parallel (1 to 50) |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | no proxy | Optional Apify Proxy, for example to send requests from a specific country |

### Use the website contact extractor from your code (API)

Every run can be started over the Apify API, so you can enrich lead lists, CRM records or spreadsheets with emails and phone numbers automatically.

Node.js with the `apify-client` package:

```js
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: 'YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN' });
const run = await client.actor('fetchsmith-labs/website-contact-extractor').call({
    startUrls: ['hetzner.com', 'https://www.python.org'],
    maxPagesPerSite: 5,
    defaultCountry: 'DE',
});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
for (const site of items) console.log(site.domain, site.status, site.emails, site.phones.map((p) => p.e164));
```

Python with the `apify-client` package:

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("fetchsmith-labs/website-contact-extractor").call(run_input={
    "startUrls": ["hetzner.com", "https://www.python.org"],
    "defaultCountry": "DE",
})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    if item["status"] == "ok":
        print(item["domain"], item["emails"], item["imprint"])
```

cURL, synchronous run that returns the dataset items directly:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/fetchsmith-labs~website-contact-extractor/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"startUrls": ["hetzner.com"], "maxPagesPerSite": 3, "defaultCountry": "DE"}'
```

Results can also go straight to Google Sheets, HubSpot, Make, Zapier, n8n or a webhook through the Apify integrations on the Actor page. A typical workflow: collect company domains with a lead source (for example the Local Business Leads Actor from Fetchsmith Labs), then pass the `website` values to this Actor as `startUrls`.

### Pricing

Pay per event:

| Event | Price | Charged when |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `website-with-contacts` | **$0.004** | A website returned at least one email, phone number or social profile |

You pay only for websites where we found contacts. Websites with status `no-contacts`, `unreachable`, `blocked` or `robots-disallowed` are free.

Example: 1,000 websites where contacts are found on all of them cost $4.00. If contacts are found on 600 of the 1,000, you pay for 600 websites, which is $2.40.

You can set a maximum spend per run in the Apify run options. The Actor stops cleanly when that limit is reached.

### Use cases

- Build B2B lead lists from a list of company domains
- Enrich a CRM with emails, phone numbers and social profiles
- Collect DACH company data (legal name, managing directors, VAT ID, HRB number) from the Impressum for compliance and KYB-style checks
- Find the right contact page and imprint for outreach or recruiting
- Monitor whether your own sites publish a complete imprint and contact data

### FAQ

**Does it use a browser?** No. It reads server-rendered HTML over HTTP, which keeps runs fast and cheap. Websites that build their whole page with JavaScript and ship no contact data in the HTML can return `no-contacts`.

**Is this legal?** The Actor only reads information that websites publish openly, respects `robots.txt`, does not log in and does not bypass bot protection. You are responsible for how you use the data, including compliance with data protection law (for example GDPR and anti-spam rules) when contacting people.

**What happens on protected websites?** If a site answers with HTTP 403 or a challenge page, the item gets status `blocked` and is not charged. If the homepage is disallowed in `robots.txt`, the status is `robots-disallowed`.

**How many pages are read per website?** The homepage plus up to `maxPagesPerSite` extra pages (default 5, maximum 15). Each request has a 15 second timeout and redirects are followed. Non-HTML files are skipped.

**Why are some imprint fields empty?** Imprints are free text. The parser only reports values it is confident about, so a field is `null` instead of a wrong guess.

**Do I need a proxy?** Most websites work without one. Turn on Apify Proxy in the input if you want requests from a specific country.

**Are `x.com` links returned for Twitter?** Yes. Profiles on `twitter.com` and `x.com` are listed under `twitter` as `https://x.com/<handle>`.

**Can I export the results to CSV or Excel?** Yes. Open the run's Storage tab and download the dataset as CSV, Excel, JSON, XML or HTML. Nested fields such as `emails` and `socials` are flattened into columns in CSV and Excel.

**How many websites can I process in one run?** There is no fixed limit. Runs of a few thousand domains work fine with the default memory; raise `maxConcurrency` for faster runs and lower `maxPagesPerSite` to save time when you only need the homepage.

### Support

Found a website where the result looks wrong? Open an issue from the Actor page and include the website URL. We use these reports to improve the parsers.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Websites to extract contacts from. Full URLs (https://example.com) or bare domains (example.com) are both accepted. One result is produced per website.

## `maxPagesPerSite` (type: `integer`):

How many additional contact-like pages (contact, about, imprint, legal, team, support) to fetch per website, on top of the homepage.

## `defaultCountry` (type: `string`):

Two-letter ISO country code used to parse phone numbers written without an international prefix, for example DE, US, GB, AT, CH, FR.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many websites are processed in parallel.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional proxy. Most websites work without a proxy. Enable Apify Proxy if you get blocked or need a specific country.
