## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain Authority Checker – Bulk Rank API

**Domain authority checker** for bulk lists via API: a **domain rank score** (0–100 or 0–1000) for many domains in one run. Optional **backlinks** and **referring domains**. Built for SEO audits, prospect lists and AI agents. Data from the **DataForSEO Backlinks API** (bulk endpoints only — up to 1,000 domains per request). No Ahrefs login.

### What does it do?

- Normalize and deduplicate input domains (strip `https://`, `www.`, paths).
- By default call DataForSEO **bulk_ranks** only (one cheap bulk request per batch).
- Optionally (`includeBacklinksSummary`) also call **bulk_backlinks** + **bulk_referring_domains** — still batched, never one-by-one.
- Configurable safety limit (`maxDomains`, max 1,000).
- Rank on a **0–100** or **0–1000** scale.
- Clear errors for invalid domains or API failures without leaking credentials.

### Use cases

- **SEO audits**: score competitor or client domains in bulk with a domain authority checker.
- **Link building / outreach**: prioritize prospects by rank (and optional referring-domain count).
- **Content & AEO research**: compare authority across a topic cluster.
- **AI agents**: call via Apify API or MCP to enrich domain lists (JSON, MCP-ready).

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `domains` | List of domains to check (normalized, deduplicated). Example: example.com |
| `maxDomains` | Hard cap of domains processed per run (max 1000 per API batch). Example: 200 |
| `rankScale` | Scale for the domain rank score (`one_hundred` or `one_thousand`). Example: one_hundred |
| `includeBacklinksSummary` | Optional. Also fetch bulk backlinks and referring domains (extra PPE events). Off by default. Example: false |

Example input:

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "example.com",
    "google.com",
    "wikipedia.org",
    "github.com",
    "stackoverflow.com"
  ],
  "maxDomains": 10,
  "rankScale": "one_hundred",
  "includeBacklinksSummary": false
}
```

### Output

Real output (sample from a prior run on 27 Oct 2026, Europe/Madrid):

```json
[
  {
    "domain": "example.com",
    "rank": 90,
    "rankScale": "0-100",
    "backlinks": 86957605,
  }
]
```

Export as JSON, CSV or Excel, read through the API, or send to Google Sheets, Make, Zapier, n8n or webhooks. You can also run this Actor from AI agents through the Apify MCP server.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$1.00 / 1,000 domain results (+ $0.04 per bulk batch; +$0.00005 start). With backlinks: +$0.06/batch + $0.002/domain.** There is no extra platform usage charge beyond Apify’s normal platform fees if any apply to your plan.

### FAQ

**Do I need an Ahrefs or Moz login?** No. Rank and optional backlink summaries come from DataForSEO bulk endpoints via this Actor. You only need an Apify account.

**What does the rank score mean?** It is DataForSEO’s domain rank on the scale you choose (0–100 or 0–1000). It is useful for relative comparisons, not a Moz DA clone.

**Are backlinks included by default?** No. Set `includeBacklinksSummary` to true to also fetch bulk backlinks and referring domains (extra PPE events).

**Can AI agents use it?** Yes. Call it through the Apify API, or from Claude, Cursor or any MCP client via the Apify MCP server. Output is JSON.
