## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Japan IT Jobs for English Speakers (Japan Dev + JapanTechCareers)

Get English-friendly tech jobs in Japan as one clean dataset. This Actor collects job postings from two job boards for international candidates and gives every job the same fields, wherever it was posted:

- **[Japan Dev](https://japan-dev.com)**: hand-picked tech jobs in Japan for English speakers, about 290 jobs.
- **[JapanTechCareers](https://www.techjpcareers.com)**: a smaller board for tech jobs in Japan, about 20 jobs.

You get salary ranges in yen, remote policy, visa sponsorship, whether you can apply from abroad, the Japanese and English level each job requires, seniority and skills. Job counts are as of 31 October 2026.

### What can you use it for?

- **Recruiting and staffing:** a single feed of open roles for international engineers in Japan, with salary and language requirements.
- **Salary benchmarking:** published JPY salary ranges by seniority, remote policy and language requirement.
- **Job alerts:** schedule the Actor with *Only jobs not returned by earlier runs* to get just the new postings each day.
- **Market research:** which companies hire internationally, how many roles need no Japanese, and how many sponsor visas.

### What data can you extract?

| Field | What it contains | Example |
|---|---|---|
| `source` | Job board: `japandev` or `techjpcareers` | `japandev` |
| `jobId`, `url`, `title` | Job ID, job page and job title | `AI Engineer (VLAs)` |
| `company`, `companyUrl` | Hiring company and its profile page on the board | `Money Forward` |
| `location` | Work location | `Tokyo` |
| `salaryMin`, `salaryMax`, `salaryCurrency`, `salaryPeriod` | Published salary range | `7000000`, `15000000`, `JPY`, `year` |
| `remote` | `full`, `partial` (hybrid) or `none` | `partial` |
| `applyFromAbroad` | Whether candidates outside Japan can apply | `true` |
| `visaSponsorship` | Whether the employer sponsors work visas | `true` |
| `japaneseLevel`, `englishLevel` | `not_required`, `basic`, `conversational`, `business`, `fluent` or `native` | `not_required`, `business` |
| `seniority` | `new_grad`, `junior`, `mid`, `senior` or `lead` | `senior` |
| `employmentType`, `category`, `skills` | Employment type, job family and technology tags | `full_time`, `Engineering`, `["Go", "AWS"]` |
| `datePosted`, `dateModified`, `validThrough` | Dates reported by the board | `2026-04-12` |
| `description` | Full job description as plain text (optional) | off by default |
| `sourceDetails` | The board's original values behind the normalized fields | `{ "sponsorsVisas": "sponsors_visas_yes" }` |

`null` always means the board does not publish that value for the job. You can download the data as JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML, or read it through the Apify API.

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free**.
2. Keep both job boards selected, or pick one.
3. For a quick test, set **Max jobs per board** to a small number such as 20.
4. Click **Start**, then open the **Output** tab or download the dataset.

To receive only new postings, schedule the Actor (for example once a day) and turn on **Only jobs not returned by earlier runs**.

Each run also saves a `RUN_SUMMARY` record in its key-value store. It shows, per board:

- how many jobs the board listed and how many were returned;
- whether anything was skipped or blocked;
- with *Only jobs not returned by earlier runs* on, which earlier jobs have been taken down.

### How much does it cost?

This Actor uses **pay-per-result** pricing: **$5.00 per 1,000 results**, which is **$0.005 per job**. You pay only for the jobs saved to your dataset. The Pricing tab on this page always shows the current price.

Typical costs at that price:

- Both boards in full (about 310 jobs): about $1.55.
- 20 jobs from each board: $0.20.
- A daily run with *Only jobs not returned by earlier runs*: only the new postings of that day.

A full run takes about 16 minutes, because the Actor waits 3 seconds between requests.

### Polite crawling

- The Actor reads each board's robots.txt and follows it for every page it opens.
- It sends one request at a time, at least 3 seconds apart, with its own User-Agent.
- It stops requesting pages from a board as soon as the board shows an anti-bot challenge.
- It uses no proxies, browser fingerprinting or challenge solvers.

### Limitations

- **JapanTechCareers is small.** It listed 22 jobs on 31 October 2026, and most of them require Japanese.
- **Visa sponsorship on JapanTechCareers is `true` or `null`.** That board defines "accepts overseas applications" as including visa sponsorship, so those jobs are `true`; it does not state the opposite case, so other jobs are `null`.
- **Unpublished salaries are `null`.** Not every job publishes a salary.
- **Descriptions are copyrighted.** They belong to the employers and job boards and are off by default. Check your rights before republishing them.
- **Page changes can blank fields.** If a board changes its pages, some fields may be `null` until the Actor is updated.
- **No affiliation.** This Actor is not affiliated with Japan Dev or JapanTechCareers.

### Is it legal to scrape these job boards?

The Actor collects only job postings that anyone can see without logging in. It does not collect personal data such as applicant details or recruiter contacts. You are responsible for how you use the data, including copyright in job descriptions. If unsure, consult a lawyer. See Apify's article on [the legality of web scraping](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/).

# Actor input Schema

## `sites` (type: `array`):

Job boards to collect from. Both are selected by default.

## `maxItemsPerSite` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many jobs from each board. 0 means no limit (all jobs listed in the sitemap). With a limit, the newest postings are taken first where the sitemap has dates, one company at a time in turn, so a small run covers many employers.

## `onlyNewSinceLastRun` (type: `boolean`):

Skip jobs that earlier runs of this Actor on your account already returned, and visit only the new job pages. The run summary (key-value store record RUN_SUMMARY) also lists previously returned jobs that are no longer listed on the board. History is kept in the named key-value store "japan-it-jobs-state".

## `includeDescription` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the job description as plain text. Descriptions are protected by copyright (employers, job boards), so check that your use of them is permitted before republishing.

## `requestDelaySecs` (type: `integer`):

Seconds to wait between consecutive requests. The Actor never sends requests in parallel. Values below 3 are raised to 3.

    "techjpcareers"
  ],
  "maxItemsPerSite": 20,
  "onlyNewSinceLastRun": false,
  "includeDescription": false,
  "requestDelaySecs": 3
}
```
