## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## CPSC Recall Search: US Product Safety Recall Checker (official API, no key)

**Is this product recalled?** Search every US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) product recall by product name, brand/manufacturer, hazard, retailer, UPC, country or date range. Data comes straight from the official public SaferProducts.gov / CPSC Recall API. You don't need an API key, proxies or scraping. You get one clean row per recall with hazards, remedies, units, retailers and images.

**Who it's for:** Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Walmart and Etsy sellers checking inventory before they list it; resale, thrift and liquidation buyers; product-liability lawyers; insurers; compliance, QA and product-safety teams; daycare, school and childcare buyers; and journalists.

### What you can do

- **Recall check before you list or buy:** search by product (crib, stroller, space heater, e-bike battery) or brand.
- **UPC recall lookup:** put a UPC in `keyword` to match recalls that list it.
- **Hazard monitoring:** pull every fire, burn, choking, fall or laceration recall since a date.
- **Retailer exposure:** see recalls sold at Amazon, Walmart, Target, Costco and others.
- **Scheduled product safety alerts:** run it daily or weekly with an Apify Schedule and send new recalls to Sheets, Slack or a webhook.

### Input

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| productName | crib |
| manufacturer | Decathlon |
| hazard | fire |
| keyword | Amazon (matches any field, including retailer, UPC and country) |
| recallDateStart / recallDateEnd | 2025-01-01 |
| maxResults | 100 (cap 1000) |

### Output (one row per recall)

recallNumber, recallDate, title, url, description, products (name/model/type/units), hazards, injuries, remedies, remedyOptions, manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers, manufacturerCountries, upcs, consumerContact, images, retrievedAt. Export it as JSON, CSV or Excel, or call it through the Apify API.

### Pricing

Pay per result: $0.002 per recall row plus a $0.005 run start fee. 100 recalls = $0.205. You're only charged for rows returned, and runs stop at your max-charge limit.

### FAQ

**How do I check if a product has been recalled?** Enter the product name or brand in `productName` or `manufacturer`, then run. Every matching CPSC recall comes back as a row with its hazard and remedy.

**Does it cover cars or food?** No. CPSC covers consumer products. For vehicle recalls by VIN, use our **Bulk VIN Recall Check (NHTSA)** actor: https://apify.com/forged_mussel/vin-recall-check

**Is the data official?** Yes. It comes from the US CPSC public recall API (public domain).

### Notes

Data belongs to US CPSC (public domain). Not affiliated with CPSC. This isn't legal advice. Always confirm on cpsc.gov.
