## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Open Federal Contracts — SAM.gov RFPs Still Accepting Bids

Find US federal government contracts your organization can still bid on.

Give it the kind of work you do — keywords, NAICS codes, the states where you can perform, or your set-aside status — and get back a clean list of **federal solicitations that are open right now**, one row per opportunity, with the response deadline, agency, contracting contact and a link to the full notice on SAM.gov.

### What you get

- **Only opportunities you can still respond to.** Anything whose response deadline has passed, has no deadline, or is an award notice is left out.
- **One row per solicitation.** Federal notices are amended often — about 30% of open notices are extra versions of the same solicitation. You get the latest version once, with `notices_in_solicitation` telling you how many versions exist. The deadline shown is the latest one.
- **Structured, machine-readable fields:** title, notice type, agency / sub-tier / office, posted date, response deadline (as published, plus UTC when SAM.gov gives a time zone) and days remaining, NAICS, product service code, set-aside, place of performance, primary government contact, a 500-character summary, and the SAM.gov URL.
- **Fresh and honest about freshness.** Every row carries `source_updated_at`. If SAM.gov has not refreshed its public data in over 72 hours, the Actor returns nothing (and charges nothing) rather than stale data.

### Input

| Field | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| `keywords` | `["cybersecurity", "zero trust"]` | Any keyword appears as a whole word or phrase in the title or description |
| `naicsCodes` | `["5415", "541330"]` | NAICS code or prefix |
| `states` | `["OH", "VA"]` | Place-of-performance state |
| `setAsideCodes` | `["SBA", "SDVOSBC"]` | SAM.gov set-aside codes (`SBA`, `SBP`, `8A`, `HZC`, `SDVOSBC`, `WOSB`, `EDWOSB`, `NONE`, …) |
| `noticeTypes` | `["Solicitation"]` | Default: Solicitation, Combined Synopsis/Solicitation, Presolicitation, Sources Sought. `Special Notice` can be added |
| `postedWithinDays` | `7` | Only opportunities posted or amended recently |
| `maxResults` | `100` | Cap on rows returned (newest first) |

At least one of `keywords`, `naicsCodes`, `states` or `setAsideCodes` is required. Filters combine with AND; values inside one filter combine with OR.

```json
{
  "keywords": ["janitorial", "custodial"],
  "states": ["OH"],
  "setAsideCodes": ["SBA"],
  "maxResults": 50
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "record_type": "opportunity",
  "title": "AFRL/RFMM PXI Timing, Synchronization, and Data Acquisition System",
  "notice_type": "Combined Synopsis/Solicitation",
  "solicitation_number": "COMBO-AFRL-RMZB-2026-0018",
  "agency": "DEPT OF DEFENSE",
  "sub_tier": "DEPT OF THE AIR FORCE",
  "response_deadline": "2026-10-08T17:00:00-04:00",
  "response_deadline_utc": "2026-10-08T21:00:00.000Z",
  "days_until_deadline": 4,
  "naics_code": "334515",
  "set_aside_code": "NONE",
  "pop_state": "OH",
  "notices_in_solicitation": 6,
  "sam_url": "https://sam.gov/workspace/contract/opp/0672847bd28b4886b67dd7afa73555c0/view",
  "matched_keywords": ["cybersecurity"],
  "source_updated_at": "2026-10-03T03:30:32.000Z"
}
```

If nothing can be returned you get a single free row explaining why: `no_matching_opportunities`, `source_stale`, `source_format_changed`, `source_error`, or `invalid_input`. A run summary (counts read, dropped and returned) is saved as `RUN_SUMMARY` in the run's key-value store.

### Pricing

Pay per result: you are charged once for each opportunity returned. Explanation rows are free. Use `maxResults` to cap your spend.

### Use it from an AI agent

The input and output are plain JSON with documented fields, so this works through the Apify API and the Apify MCP server — e.g. "find open federal cybersecurity contracts in Virginia with a deadline in the next 30 days" maps to `keywords` + `states`, then filter on `days_until_deadline`.

### Source and limits

- Data comes only from the **official SAM.gov Contract Opportunities public extract**, published daily by GSA (listed on data.gov). This Actor does not scrape sam.gov pages and needs no API key.
- **Federal only.** State and local (SLED) bids are not included.
- No attachments or full descriptions — follow `sam_url` for the complete notice and documents.
- **Deadlines are never invented.** About 15% of SAM.gov deadlines are a bare date with no time. Those are kept as published (`response_deadline_utc` is null) and treated as closing at the start of that day, so an opportunity due *today* with no stated time is omitted rather than risk showing you one that already closed.
- Keyword matching is literal (whole words, case-insensitive), not semantic. Relevance is your call.
- Field values are reported as SAM.gov publishes them, including occasional typos or characters SAM.gov itself has lost.

Not affiliated with SAM.gov, GSA, or the US Government.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Words or phrases describing the work you do, e.g. "janitorial", "cybersecurity", "HVAC maintenance". An opportunity matches if ANY keyword appears as a whole word or phrase in its title or description (case-insensitive).

## `naicsCodes` (type: `array`):

NAICS codes or prefixes. "5415" matches 541511, 541512, etc. An opportunity must match one of them.

## `states` (type: `array`):

Two-letter US state codes, e.g. "OH", "VA". Matches the notice's place of performance; notices without a stated place of performance are excluded when this is set.

## `setAsideCodes` (type: `array`):

SAM.gov set-aside codes, e.g. "SBA" (total small business), "SBP" (partial small business), "8A", "HZC" (HUBZone), "SDVOSBC" (service-disabled veteran-owned), "WOSB", "EDWOSB", "NONE" (no set-aside).

## `noticeTypes` (type: `array`):

Which notice types to include. Default: Solicitation, Combined Synopsis/Solicitation, Presolicitation, Sources Sought. Allowed: those four plus "Special Notice". Award notices are never returned.

## `postedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Only opportunities whose latest notice was posted in the last N days. Leave empty for all open opportunities.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum opportunities to return (newest first). You are charged per opportunity returned.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "keywords": [
    "cybersecurity"
  ],
  "maxResults": 100
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `opportunities` (type: `string`):

One row per live solicitation with record_type "opportunity". If nothing is returned, a single free row explains why: no_matching_opportunities, source_stale, source_format_changed, source_error, or invalid_input.

## `runSummary` (type: `string`):

Filters used, source freshness, counts of notices read and dropped (deadline passed, type excluded, filtered out), and opportunities returned and charged.
