## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

## AI Image Generator (FLUX) — Pay Per Image

Generate an image from a text prompt using FLUX Schnell, FLUX 1.1 Pro, or FLUX
Kontext Max. Give it a prompt, get back a hosted image URL. No API key, no
subscription — billed per image via Apify Pay-Per-Event, payable with an
Apify prepaid balance or an x402 USDC wallet on Base.

### What it does

This Actor wraps a text-to-image generation service and returns one image per
run. Four quality tiers are available:

| Tier | Model | What you get | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| `base` | FLUX Schnell | Fast draft, standard quality | $0.25 |
| `clean` | FLUX Schnell | Background removed, transparent PNG cutout | $0.35 |
| `hd` | FLUX 1.1 Pro | Upscaled 4x for sharp, print-quality detail | $0.50 |
| `pro` | FLUX Kontext Max | Background removed AND upscaled 4x | $0.75 |

Use `base` for drafts, mockups, and concept art. Use `clean` for product
photos, stickers, and logo marks that need to drop onto any background. Use
`hd` for hero images, wallpapers, and banner art. Use `pro` for
professional product renders and brand marks where both resolution and a
clean background matter.

You are only charged if an image is actually generated. A failed or errored
run is not billed.

### Input

| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `prompt` | string | yes | Natural-language description of the image to generate |
| `tier` | string | no (default `base`) | One of `base`, `clean`, `hd`, `pro` |
| `aspect` | string | no (default `1:1`) | One of `1:1`, `16:9`, `9:16`, `4:3` |

Example input:

```json
{
  "prompt": "a geometric eagle logo mark, minimalist, flat color",
  "tier": "clean",
  "aspect": "1:1"
}
```

### Output

A single record in the default dataset (and in the run's key-value store
under `OUTPUT`):

```json
{
  "image_url": "https://.../generated-image.png",
  "prompt": "a geometric eagle logo mark, minimalist, flat color",
  "aspect": "1:1",
  "tier": "clean",
  "generated_at": "2026-08-06T14:00:00.000Z"
}
```

### Pricing

Pay-per-event — you're billed one of the four events above, matching the
tier you asked for. There is no run-start fee beyond Apify's own platform
event. Nothing is charged if generation fails.

### Prompting tips

- Be specific about subject, style, lighting, and composition — "a red panda
  astronaut floating in space, retro sci-fi illustration style" outperforms
  "space panda."
- For `clean` or `pro` tiers (background removal), describe a single clear
  subject — busy multi-subject scenes cut out less cleanly.
- For `hd`, prompt as if for a full scene; the 4x upscale sharpens detail
  that's already in the base render, it doesn't add detail that wasn't
  described.

### Use cases

Text-to-image for automated content pipelines, product photography stand-ins
for e-commerce listings, transparent logo marks and sticker art, hero images
and banner art for landing pages, concept art and mockups for design
workflows, and any agent task that needs a generated image without managing
its own model API key.

## `tier` (type: `string`):

base = fast draft (FLUX Schnell). clean = base + transparent background cutout. hd = FLUX 1.1 Pro + 4x upscale. pro = FLUX Kontext Max + background removed + 4x upscale.

## `aspect` (type: `string`):

1:1=1024x1024, 16:9=1024x576, 9:16=576x1024, 4:3=1024x768
