## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Company Logo & Favicon Extractor: Domain to Logo

Give it a list of company domains. Get back one row per site with the **best logo URL**, the **best square icon**, every declared favicon and app icon with sizes, the og:image, the site name and the brand theme color.

A keyless alternative to the free Clearbit Logo API (logo.clearbit.com), which shut down on December 8, 2025. No API key, no account with a logo vendor.

### Quick start

1. Paste domains into **Domains or URLs**, for example `python.org`, `apify.com`.
2. Run. Each site takes a few seconds.
3. Export as CSV, JSON or Excel, or call the dataset API from your CRM or script.

### What you get per site

- **bestLogoUrl** and **bestLogoSource**: picked in this order: JSON-LD Organization logo, a header logo image (footer images and logos linking to other sites are skipped), the largest app icon, og:image, favicon.
- **bestLogoVerified**: the logo URL was fetched once and returned an image.
- **bestIconUrl**: SVG icon or the largest square icon (good for avatars and lists).
- **icons**: every declared icon (rel=icon, apple-touch-icon, mask-icon, manifest icons) with sizes and type.
- **siteName**, **pageTitle**, **themeColor**, **finalUrl**.

### Pricing

Pay per result: you pay for each site that returns a logo or icon row, plus a tiny start fee.
Sites that are blocked by robots.txt, redirect to another site, fail to load or have no logo get a **free status row**.

### How it reads sites (polite by design)

- Reads robots.txt first and obeys it. A robots.txt that answers 401/403/5xx is treated as "do not crawl".
- Reads only the home page, the site's manifest file (optional) and one check of the chosen logo (optional). About 3 to 5 requests per site.
- At least 1 second between requests to the same host, or the site's Crawl-delay.
- No cookies, no login, no JavaScript rendering. Redirects are followed only within the same site (http to https, www and bare domain).

### Limits

- Sites that build their head tags with JavaScript only may show fewer icons.
- og:image is often a social banner, not a logo, so it ranks low in the pick.
- Logos are trademarks of their owners. This tool returns the public URLs that sites publish; check your own use rights.
- No e-mails, phone numbers or person names are collected.

### Changelog

- 0.0.3: logo pick skips footer images and logos that link to another site (sponsor or partner badges); images named after the site rank first.
- 0.0.2: dataset example values taken from real runs.
- 0.0.1: first build.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Company websites, e.g. 'stripe.com' or 'https://www.example.com'. One result row per site (duplicates and www/bare variants are merged).

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Same as Domains, as a URL list (handy from other actors or a file). Only the site's home page is read.

## `verifyLogo` (type: `boolean`):

Fetch the chosen logo once to confirm it is a real image (adds one request per site). Also tries /favicon.ico when a site declares no icon.

## `readManifest` (type: `boolean`):

Read the site's manifest file (if declared on the same site) for large app icons such as 512x512.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many charged result rows (caps your cost). Empty = no limit.

## `statusRows` (type: `boolean`):

Add one free row per site with a problem (robots-blocked, redirects-elsewhere, home-page-error, no-logo-found, invalid-input).

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "python.org",
    "apify.com"
  ],
  "verifyLogo": true,
  "readManifest": true,
  "statusRows": true
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

All items in the default dataset, overview view.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "domains": [
        "python.org",
        "apify.com"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("founder-experiment/website-logo-extractor").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
