## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Crunchbase Company Intelligence — Firmographics, Contact & Funding Signals

Turn a list of **company names, domains or Crunchbase URLs** into clean, structured company intelligence: description, website, **employee range, HQ, categories, Crunchbase rank, IPO/operating status, contact email and phone**, and funding signals — straight from each company's public [Crunchbase](https://www.crunchbase.com) profile. No Crunchbase subscription and no API key required.

Run it on the [Apify platform](https://apify.com) for API access, scheduling, integrations, proxy rotation and run monitoring.

### What does Crunchbase Company Intelligence do?

Give it `["stripe.com", "openai", "https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/nvidia"]` and get one clean JSON record per company. It accepts a **name, a domain, a Crunchbase URL or a permalink** and resolves each to the right company through Crunchbase's own autocomplete — then confirms a domain match against the company's real website, so `stripe.com` returns **Stripe**, not a look-alike subsidiary.

It is built for lead generation and company enrichment: the fields a sales or RevOps team actually pastes into a CRM — **contact email, phone, headcount band, HQ and rank** — in one row, without a Crunchbase Pro seat.

> Not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Crunchbase, Inc. This Actor reads only publicly accessible profile pages.

### Why use Crunchbase Company Intelligence?

- **Direct contact data.** `contactEmail` and `contactPhone` where Crunchbase publishes them — the money fields for outbound.
- **Firmographics in one row.** Employee range, HQ city/country, categories, CB rank, IPO and operating status.
- **Smart resolution.** Name, domain or URL in; the correct entity out — domain inputs are verified against the company's own website.
- **Honest about the paywall.** Crunchbase hides the exact funding amount and founded date from logged-out sessions. This Actor never fabricates them — it returns `null` and flags them. Supply your own Crunchbase session cookie to unlock them (see below).
- **Pay as you go.** Look up 3 companies or 3,000; you are charged for what is delivered.

### How to use Crunchbase Company Intelligence

1. Open the Actor and go to the **Input** tab.
2. In **Companies**, add names, domains, Crunchbase URLs or permalinks (one per line).
3. *(Optional)* Paste your **Crunchbase session cookie** to unlock funding amount & founded date.
4. *(Optional)* Set **Max results** to cap how many records are delivered.
5. Click **Start**. Download the results as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or pull them from the API.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `companies` | array (required) | Names (`"Stripe"`), domains (`"stripe.com"`), Crunchbase URLs or permalinks. |
| `sessionCookie` | string (secret, optional) | Your Crunchbase session cookie (`name=value; …`) to unlock funding amount & founded date. |
| `maxResults` | integer (optional) | Maximum records to deliver. `0` = all. |

```json
{
  "companies": ["stripe.com", "openai", "https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/nvidia"],
  "maxResults": 0
}
```

### Output

Each company is one dataset item. Example (measured 2026-10-11, logged-out session):

```json
{
  "name": "NVIDIA",
  "crunchbaseUrl": "https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/nvidia",
  "permalink": "nvidia",
  "description": "NVIDIA is a computing platform company …",
  "website": "https://www.nvidia.com",
  "domain": "nvidia.com",
  "employeeRange": "10001+",
  "operatingStatus": "active",
  "ipoStatus": "public",
  "cbRank": 15,
  "hqCity": "Santa Clara",
  "hqRegion": "California",
  "hqCountry": "United States",
  "categories": ["Artificial Intelligence", "GPU", "Hardware"],
  "contactEmail": "info@nvidia.com",
  "contactPhone": "+1 (408) 486-2000",
  "linkedin": "https://www.linkedin.com/company/nvidia",
  "lastFundingType": "post_ipo_debt",
  "fundingTotalUsd": null,
  "foundedOn": null,
  "paywalledFieldsNeedLogin": ["fundingTotalUsd", "foundedOn"],
  "source": "crunchbase.com (public profile)",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-11T18:00:00.000Z"
}
```

You can download the dataset in various formats such as JSON, HTML, CSV, or Excel.

### Data table

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `name`, `permalink`, `crunchbaseUrl` | Company identity and its Crunchbase profile link |
| `description` | The company's own short description |
| `website`, `domain` | Official website and bare domain |
| `employeeRange` | Headcount band (e.g. `1001-5000`, `10001+`) |
| `hqCity`, `hqRegion`, `hqCountry` | Headquarters location |
| `categories` | Industry / category tags |
| `cbRank` | Crunchbase rank (lower = more prominent) |
| `ipoStatus`, `operatingStatus` | `public`/`private`, `active`/`closed` |
| `contactEmail`, `contactPhone` | Public contact details where Crunchbase lists them |
| `linkedin`, `facebook`, `twitter` | Social profiles |
| `lastFundingType`, `lastFundingAt` | Latest funding round type and date |
| `fundingTotalUsd`, `foundedOn` | **Paywalled** — `null` unless a session cookie is supplied |

### Unlocking funding amount & founded date (BYOC)

Crunchbase paywalls the exact total funding and founded date for logged-out sessions, so this Actor returns them as `null` and lists them in `paywalledFieldsNeedLogin`. To unlock them, log in to Crunchbase in your browser, copy your session cookie, and paste it into the **Crunchbase session cookie** input. Your account, your responsibility.

### How much does it cost to scrape Crunchbase?

Pay-per-event:

| Event | Price | When |
|---|---|---|
| Company record | **$0.012** | per company delivered |
| Crunchbase session | **$0.02** | once per run, on the first company delivered — it covers clearing Crunchbase's anti-bot challenge, which every run pays before it can read anything |

A company that cannot be resolved, or that Crunchbase refuses, is **free**, and a run that delivers nothing costs nothing — not even the session. Example: 25 companies in one run = $0.02 + 25 × $0.012 = **$0.32**. [View current pricing.](https://apify.com/foxlabs/crunchbase-company-intelligence)

The session fee is why batching pays: 100 companies in one run cost $1.22, the same 100 one at a time cost $3.20.

### Tips & advanced options

- **Batch, don't drip.** The anti-bot challenge is cleared once per run and reused for the whole list, and the session fee is charged once, so one run of 100 companies costs a third of 100 runs of one.
- **Use domains when you can.** Domain inputs are verified against the company's real website, which is the most reliable way to hit the exact entity.
- **Supply the cookie only if you need funding/founded** — every other field is free.

### FAQ, disclaimers & support

- **Is this legal?** The Actor reads only publicly accessible Crunchbase profile pages and does not bypass any login or payment wall (paywalled fields are left `null` unless you supply your own cookie). You are responsible for your use of the data and compliance with Crunchbase's Terms of Service and applicable law.
- **Why are funding and founded date empty?** They are paywalled for logged-out sessions. Supply your session cookie to unlock them.
- **A company wasn't found.** Try the domain or the exact Crunchbase URL. Very small or ambiguous companies may not surface via autocomplete.
- **Feedback / bugs:** use the **Issues** tab. Custom enrichment pipelines available on request.

### Changelog

#### 0.1.0 — 2026-10-11

- Initial release. Name/domain/URL → public Crunchbase profile: firmographics, contact email & phone, categories, HQ, CB rank, IPO/operating status, funding signals.
- Clears Crunchbase's Cloudflare managed (Turnstile) challenge with a self-hosted hardened Firefox (Camoufox), headless — no paid unblocking service.
- Domain inputs resolved via Crunchbase autocomplete (brand label) and **verified against the company's own website** so `stripe.com` → Stripe, `nvidia.com` → NVIDIA.
- Funding amount & founded date returned as `null` with a `paywalledFieldsNeedLogin` flag when logged out; unlockable with a user-supplied session cookie (BYOC).

# Actor input Schema

## `companies` (type: `array`):

Companies to look up — a name ("Stripe"), a domain ("stripe.com"), a Crunchbase URL, or a permalink ("stripe"). Names/domains are resolved via Crunchbase's own autocomplete.

## `sessionCookie` (type: `string`):

Crunchbase paywalls the exact funding amount, founded date and valuation for logged-out sessions. Paste your own Crunchbase session cookie (name=value; …) to unlock them. Leave blank for the free firmographics + contact fields. Your account, your responsibility.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum company records to deliver (0 = all).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Crunchbase scores datacenter IPs, so a residential proxy is needed for the Cloudflare challenge to clear. Defaults to Apify Residential — leave as is unless you have your own clean proxy.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "companies": [
    "stripe.com",
    "airbnb",
