## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Federal Contract Awards (USAspending): Who Won What

See which companies are winning U.S. federal contracts, for how much, from which agency, and against how many competitors. Data comes from [USAspending.gov](https://www.usaspending.gov), the official source for federal spending.

- **Search by market or by competitor.** Filter by keyword, NAICS, awarding agency, winning company, set-aside, state and dollar amount.
- **Competition details.** Adds the number of offers received, extent competed, set-aside type, pricing type and the solicitation ID.
- **Real contract size.** Adds the potential total value including all options, not just the obligated amount, plus the parent IDV or GWAC.
- **Winner profile.** Adds the company's business categories (small, veteran-owned, 8(a), women-owned...), parent company and address.
- **Alert mode.** Schedule it daily to get only new awards in your market or by a competitor.
- **No API key.** Works out of the box.

### Who uses it

- **Capture and BD teams** sizing a market, finding incumbents before a recompete, and spotting teaming partners.
- **Small businesses** checking which agencies buy their services and how many bidders they face.
- **Sales teams** selling to government contractors: new winners usually need to hire, buy and subcontract.
- **Analysts and AI agents** that need structured federal award data.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `keywords` | Words to find in award descriptions. |
| `awardCategory` | `contracts` (contracts, purchase orders, delivery and task orders) or `idvs` (GWACs, BPAs, IDIQs). |
| `naicsCodes` | 2- to 6-digit NAICS codes. |
| `awardingAgencies` | Top-level agency names, e.g. `Department of Defense`. |
| `recipientNames` | Company names or UEIs, for example to track a competitor. |
| `setAsides` | Small business, 8(a), HUBZone, SDVOSB, WOSB, and more. |
| `placeOfPerformanceStates` | 2-letter state codes. |
| `minAmount` / `maxAmount` | Award amount range in USD. |
| `lookbackDays`, `dateFrom`, `dateTo` | The date window. The default is the last 90 days. |
| `newAwardsOnly` | Only awards that started in the window, not modifications of older ones. Usually much faster. |
| `includeDetails` | Competition details, potential value and winner profile (on by default). |
| `onlyNewSinceLastRun` | Alert mode: return only awards earlier runs with the same filters have not returned. |
| `maxItems` | How many awards to return. |

Example: new cybersecurity awards to small businesses in the last 90 days:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["cybersecurity"],
  "setAsides": ["SBA", "8A", "SDVOSBC"],
  "newAwardsOnly": true,
}
```

### Good to know

- **Reporting delay.** Agencies report awards to USAspending with a delay; the Department of Defense can take up to 90 days. That is why the default window is 90 days. Alert mode keeps track of what you have already received, so a wide window doesn't cause duplicates.
- **Speed.** USAspending can be slow under load. The Actor retries automatically, and the `newAwardsOnly` filter is usually the fastest way to search.
- **Pairs well with** [SAM.gov Contract Opportunities](https://apify.com/frank0309/sam-gov-opportunities): find open bids there, then see who won similar ones here.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Words to search in award descriptions, e.g. "cybersecurity". Awards matching any keyword are returned.

## `awardCategory` (type: `string`):

Contracts are definitive contracts, purchase orders and delivery/task orders. IDVs are vehicles such as GWACs, BPAs and IDIQs.

## `naicsCodes` (type: `array`):

2- to 6-digit NAICS codes, e.g. 541511 or 5415.

## `awardingAgencies` (type: `array`):

Top-level agency names exactly as USAspending writes them, e.g. "Department of Defense", "Department of Veterans Affairs", "General Services Administration".

## `recipientNames` (type: `array`):

Company names or UEIs to track, e.g. a competitor. Partial names work.

## `setAsides` (type: `array`):

Only awards made under these set-aside types.

## `placeOfPerformanceStates` (type: `array`):

2-letter state codes, e.g. VA, MD, TX.

## `minAmount` (type: `integer`):

Skip awards smaller than this.

## `maxAmount` (type: `integer`):

Skip awards larger than this.

## `lookbackDays` (type: `integer`):

Awards with activity in the last N days. Ignored when "From date" is set. Agencies report awards with a delay (the Department of Defense up to 90 days), so very short windows can return few results.

## `dateFrom` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD. USAspending search starts at 2007-10-01.

## `dateTo` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD. Defaults to today.

## `newAwardsOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Only awards that started in the date range, not modifications of older awards. Usually much faster.

## `sortBy` (type: `string`):

Order of results. Sorting by last modified can be slower on USAspending.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Add the winner's business categories and address, competition details (offers received, extent competed, set-aside), potential total value and parent contract.

## `onlyNewSinceLastRun` (type: `boolean`):

Return only awards that earlier runs with the same filters have not returned. Schedule the Actor daily to track new wins in your market or by a competitor. The first run returns everything that matches.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many awards.
