## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Mexico Trademark Search & Watch (IMPI Marcas API)

Search the **official Mexican trademark register of IMPI** (Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial, MARCia / Marcanet) and get clean JSON, CSV or Excel. Find marks by **brand name** (exact, contains or *similar* for conflict checks), by **owner / applicant**, by **Nice class**, **status** (registered or pending) and **filing date**. Turn on **Watch mode** and schedule it to get **trademark watch alerts** for new, similar filings or status changes.

No login, no API key, no proxy: it reads the same public register you can browse at marcia.impi.gob.mx.

### What you get

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `trademark` | Mark name (denominación) |
| `status` / `statusEs` | REGISTERED / PENDING (registrado / en trámite) |
| `type` | Registro de marca, aviso comercial, nombre comercial, marca famosa/notoria... |
| `applicationNumber`, `registrationNumber` | Expediente and registro numbers |
| `owners` | Owner / applicant names |
| `applicationDate`, `publicationDate`, `registrationDate`, `expiryDate` | ISO dates |
| `niceClasses` | Nice classes |
| `imageUrl` | Logo / design image (when the mark has one) |
| `goodsAndServices`, `ownerDetails`, `viennaCodes`, `priority`, `history` | With **Include full details**: goods/services per class, owner address and country, renewals and office actions |
| `searchTerm`, `searchContext` | Which of your searches matched |

### How to use it (3 steps)

1. Type one or more **trademark names** (and/or **owner names**).
2. Pick a **match mode**: `exact`, `contains`, `similar` (phonetic/spelling variations, the default) or `very-similar`. Optionally restrict **Nice classes**, **status** or **filing dates**.
3. Run it and export the results, or schedule it with **Watch mode** on.

### Use cases

- **Trademark clearance / availability check** before launching a brand in Mexico ("¿está registrada mi marca?").
- **Trademark watch**: weekly alerts of new similar filings in your classes so you can oppose in time.
- **Portfolio audit**: list every mark of a company (e.g. a competitor or a client) with expiry dates for renewal reminders.
- **Lead generation for IP law firms and agencies**: new filings per class in the last N days, or marks expiring soon.
- **Market research**: who is filing brands in coffee, restaurants, fintech, cosmetics...

### Pricing (pay per event)

- `trademark`: **$0.003** per mark returned ($3 per 1,000).
- `trademark-details`: **$0.01** per mark returned with full details (replaces the basic event for that mark).
- In Watch mode you pay only for **new or changed** marks. *Max results per search* caps the cost of every run.

### Integrations

Schedule it in Apify and send results to email, Slack, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or a webhook, or call it from the Apify API, Python/JS clients or MCP.

### FAQ

**Is this the official IMPI data?** Yes. It reads the public IMPI MARCia register (the same data as Marcanet). It does not log in or bypass any protection.

**How does "similar" work?** It uses IMPI's own fuzzy search (phonetic and spelling variants), e.g. `tecate` also finds TÓCATE or HÉCATE. Results are sorted best match first. Use `exact` or `contains` for fewer, stricter results.

**How do I get alerts for new filings?** Turn on *Watch mode*, give it a *Watch name*, set *Last N days* (e.g. 30) and schedule it daily or weekly. Each run returns only marks not seen before, or whose status changed (PENDING -> REGISTERED).

**Can I list all new trademark applications in a class?** Yes: leave names empty, set *Nice classes* (e.g. 43) and *Last N days*. IMPI shows new filings a few days after they are submitted.

**How precise is owner search?** IMPI matches any word of the owner name, so the Actor keeps only marks whose owner contains all your words (accent-insensitive, ignoring S.A. de C.V.). Results are sorted newest first.

**Does it include personal contact data?** No. Agent e-mails shown in IMPI's procedure history are not exported.

**What if the run times out?** The Actor stops about 30 s before the run timeout and keeps everything found so far, with a clear status message.

# Actor input Schema

## `trademarks` (type: `array`):

Brand names to search in the Mexican trademark register (IMPI). Each name is a separate search. Use 'Match mode' to find identical, containing or confusingly similar marks. Leave empty if you only search by owner or want all new filings in a date range.

## `owners` (type: `array`):

Company or person names to find every trademark they own or applied for in Mexico, e.g. 'BIMBO' or 'GRUPO MODELO'. Each name is a separate search.

## `matchMode` (type: `string`):

exact: the same words. contains: the name appears inside the mark. similar: phonetic / spelling variations (good for conflict and clearance checks). very-similar: broader fuzzy match (more results, more noise).

## `niceClasses` (type: `array`):

Optional Nice classification classes (1-45) to restrict the search, e.g. 25 (clothing), 30 (coffee, food), 35 (retail/advertising), 41 (education), 43 (restaurants).

## `status` (type: `array`):

Optional. REGISTERED (registrado) or PENDING (en trámite). Leave empty for both.

## `lastDays` (type: `integer`):

Optional. Only marks whose application date is within the last N days. Ideal with Watch mode for daily or weekly alerts of new filings. 0 = no limit. Note: IMPI publishes new filings with a delay of a few days.

## `applicationDateFrom` (type: `string`):

Optional (YYYY-MM-DD). Overrides 'Last N days'.

## `applicationDateTo` (type: `string`):

Optional (YYYY-MM-DD). Defaults to today.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Also fetch each mark's full record: goods and services per class, owner address and country, Vienna codes, priority and procedure history (renewals, office actions). Charged as 'trademark-details' instead of 'trademark'.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Remembers what was returned before (per Watch name) and only outputs new marks or marks whose status changed (e.g. PENDING -> REGISTERED). Schedule it daily or weekly to get trademark watch alerts; you pay only for new results.

## `monitorName` (type: `string`):

Name for this watch's memory, so different watches don't share state, e.g. 'my-brand-watch'.

## `sortBy` (type: `string`):

auto: best match first for trademark-name searches, newest application first for owner searches, new-filing lists and Watch mode. relevance: best match first. newest: newest application date first.

## `maxResultsPerSearch` (type: `integer`):

Cap per trademark or owner search (newest applications first). Also caps the cost of each run.
