## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## UK Company Financials: Companies House Accounts as Data

Every **UK company that has just filed its annual accounts at Companies House**, turned into clean data: **employees, net assets, cash, debts, turnover and profit** (when published), **previous-year figures**, plus **SIC sector, registered office address, status and incorporation date** from the official register.

Filter by **headcount, net assets, turnover, sector (SIC), postcode, town, incorporation date and keywords**, or schedule it to receive **every new set of accounts once**.

### What can you do with it?

- 🎯 **B2B leads by company size**: *"IT companies in Manchester with 10 to 49 employees"*, *"construction firms in Leeds with net assets over £500k"*.
- ⚠️ **Credit and risk monitoring**: companies with **negative net assets**, net current liabilities or falling cash, as soon as their accounts are filed.
- 📈 **Investment and M\&A sourcing**: growing headcount (`employees` vs `employeesPreviousYear`), strong balance sheets, young companies already above 50 staff.
- 🧾 **Accountants, lenders and insurers**: companies that just closed their year, with their figures and their next accounts due date.
- 🗺️ **Market research**: size distribution by sector and town (see the run summary).

### Why this Actor?

| | This Actor | Typical Companies House tools |
|---|---|---|
| Financial figures | ✅ employees, net assets, cash, debtors, creditors, turnover & profit when published, previous year | ❌ profile only, or one paid lookup per company |
| Bulk filters on size | ✅ min / max employees, net assets, turnover | ❌ |
| Sector, place, age | ✅ SIC prefixes, postcode areas / districts, towns, incorporation dates | ⚠️ |
| Clean output | ✅ one row per company, numbers as numbers, readable accounts type and standard | ⚠️ raw XBRL |
| Monitoring | ✅ only accounts not sent by a previous run | ❌ |
| API key | ✅ none needed (official bulk files) | ⚠️ |

### How it works

Companies House publishes every working day (Tuesday to Saturday) all the accounts filed electronically the day before (about 75% of the 2.2 million accounts filed each year), and every month a snapshot of all live companies. The Actor reads the daily files of the last *N* days (newest first), extracts the figures from each iXBRL document, and adds the register details. You get **one row per company** with its latest accounts of the period.

### Good to know

- **Figures are as filed** by each company, in the currency of the accounts (`currency`, almost always GBP). For group accounts (`groupAccounts: true`) the consolidated figures are given.
- **Employees** is the average number of persons employed during the year, directors included, as the law requires small companies to disclose it (about 85% of accounts).
- **Turnover and profit**: small companies may file balance-sheet-only ("filleted") accounts, so turnover is published by only a few % of companies, mostly medium and large ones. `minTurnover` keeps only those.
- **Coverage**: accounts filed electronically (about 75%); accounts filed on paper or as PDF images are not in the data. Daily files stay online 60 days, hence the 60-day maximum.
- **Register details** (status, address, SIC) come from the monthly snapshot of live companies.
- **No personal data**: names of directors, signatures and remuneration are never extracted.

### Pricing

Pay per company returned. Set a maximum cost per run and the Actor stops exactly there.

### Source & licence

Companies House **Accounts Data Product** and **Free Company Data Product**, public register information provided free of charge by Companies House. This Actor is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Companies House.
