## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## US Startup Funding Rounds: SEC Form D Filings

Every **US company that has just raised money privately** and filed a **Form D** with the SEC: **amount raised, offering size, number of investors, sector, revenue range, year of incorporation, address, phone number and executives**, straight from the official EDGAR filings.

A **public-data alternative to Crunchbase-style funding feeds**: filter by **sector, state, amount raised, company age and name**, or schedule it to receive **every new funding round once**.

### What can you do with it?

- 🎯 **Sell to freshly funded companies**: *"tech startups in California that raised $1M+ this week"*, with the company phone number and the names of the executives. Newly funded companies buy software, hire, rent offices and need lawyers, accountants and insurers.
- 💼 **Investors and M\&A**: track private placements by sector, state and size, spot young companies raising large rounds.
- 🏢 **Real estate, energy, biotech deal flow**: every private offering of the sector, with its exemption (Rule 506(b) / 506(c)) and minimum investment.
- 📰 **Journalism and research**: daily funding activity, amounts raised by sector and state (see the run summary).

The run summary (key-value store, `SUMMARY`) gives the total amount raised and the count by sector, industry and state.

### Good to know

- A **Form D** is filed within 15 days after the first sale of a private offering (Regulation D). `totalAmountSold` is the amount raised so far; amendments (Form D/A) report later totals.
- Filings appear in the SEC daily index **the evening of the filing day**: a run includes everything up to the previous business day.
- **Revenue range** is optional for companies: most choose "Decline to Disclose".
- The Actor respects the SEC fair-access policy (declared user agent, fewer than 10 requests per second) and waits when the SEC asks it to slow down.

### Pricing

Pay per filing returned. Set a maximum cost per run and the Actor stops exactly there.

### Source & licence

**U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission**, EDGAR public filings: free to access and reuse (public domain). This Actor is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the SEC. Crunchbase is a trademark of its owner, mentioned only for comparison.
