## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Audit Google Business Profiles (formerly Google My Business / GMB) in bulk and find local SEO leads. Paste Google Maps links, or search a trade and town like "plumber West Chester PA". Every business gets a 0-100 GBP score and a short list of plain-English fixes (reviews, owner replies, photos, posts, website, hours, claimed status) you can send the owner as is. Built for local SEO agencies, freelancers and anyone selling marketing to local businesses.

**Pairs with:** [Google Maps Rank Tracker (Geo-Grid Heatmap)](https://apify.com/fringed_jebel/geogrid-rank-tracker). Score a profile here, then see where it ranks across a whole grid of points around the business.

Use it to:

- **Find prospects.** Search a trade and town, then sort by weakest profile. Every row has the phone, website and review count you need for outreach.
- **Run audits.** Score a client's or prospect's profile before a sales call or a monthly report.
- **Check competitors.** Score the businesses ranking above your client and see what they do better.

### What it does

The Actor has two modes:

| Mode | You give it | You get |
|---|---|---|
| `score` | Google Maps URLs, or business name + town | One scored row per business |
| `leads` | A Maps search like `plumber West Chester PA` | Every business found, scored, weakest first |

Each business is checked for: star rating, review count, how recent the latest review is, whether the owner replies to reviews, photos, Google posts, website, phone, hours, business description, number of categories, and whether the profile is claimed.

### How to use

1. Click **Try for free** and choose a mode.
2. Fill in the input (examples below) and click **Start**.
3. Open the **Output** tab, or export to CSV, Excel or JSON.

**Score mode** (specific businesses):

```json
{
  "mode": "score",
  "placeUrls": [
    "https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Payne%20Plumbing%20%26%20Heating&query_place_id=ChIJCc_bMLvzxokRa7m_V552nX0"
  ],
  "businesses": ["Hank's Place Chadds Ford PA"]
}
```

**Leads mode** (prospect list):

```json
{
  "mode": "leads",
  "searchQuery": "plumber West Chester PA",
  "maxResults": 50,
  "maxScore": 70
}
```

`maxScore` is optional. Set it to keep only weak profiles, e.g. 70 returns only businesses scoring 70 or below.

### Sample output

Real rows from a leads run for `plumber West Chester PA` on October 25, 2026:

| Score | Business | Category | Rating | Reviews | Days since last review | Owner reply rate | Top gap |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 61 | Payne Plumbing & Heating | Plumber | 4.9 | 20 | 66 | 0.4 | Only 20 reviews. Ask every happy customer for one. |
| 68 | Cassidy plumbing and Heating | Plumber | 4.9 | 50 | 51 | 0 | Owner replied to 0 of the last 5 reviews. |
| 68 | JAMES BROWN Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning | HVAC contractor | 5.0 | 50 | 80 | 0.2 | Only 4 photos. |
| 83 | Battavio Plumbing Heating and Cooling | HVAC contractor | 4.8 | 231 | 2 | 0 | Owner replied to 0 of the last 5 reviews. |
| 93 | Len The Plumber Heating & Air | Plumber | 4.6 | 5,870 | 0 | 0.6 | Owner replied to 3 of the last 5 reviews. |
| 100 | Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup | Plumber | 4.9 | 499 | 16 | 1.0 | none |

Each row also includes: `placeUrl`, `address`, `phone`, `website`, `categories`, `lastReviewDate`, `photoCount`, `postsFound`, `lastPostDate`, `hasHours`, `hasDescription`, `hasWebsite`, `hasPhone`, `isClaimed`, and up to five `topGaps`.

### What the score measures

The score is a checklist of things an owner can fix, not a copy of Google's ranking formula.

| Signal | Max points | Full points at |
|---|---|---|
| Review count | 20 | 150+ reviews |
| Star rating | 15 | 4.7+ |
| Review freshness | 10 | A review in the last 30 days |
| Owner replies to reviews | 10 | Reply to all of the last 5 reviews |
| Photos | 10 | 100+ photos |
| Website linked | 10 | Any website |
| Phone listed | 5 | Any phone |
| Hours listed | 5 | Any hours |
| Business description | 5 | 250+ characters |
| Google posts | 5 | A post in the last 30 days |
| Categories | 5 | 4+ categories |
| Unclaimed profile | -15 | Penalty |

Rough guide: under 50 is weak, 50-75 is average, over 85 is strong.

### Pricing

- **$0.005 per scored business** ($5 per 1,000). You are charged only for businesses that were found and scored. Failed lookups cost nothing from this Actor.
- The data comes from the [Google Maps Scraper](https://apify.com/compass/crawler-google-places), which this Actor runs on your account. Its fees appear on your Apify bill as a separate run. On the Apify free plan that is about $0.85 per 100 places, including place details and the 5 newest reviews. It is lower on paid plans.
- In leads mode with `maxScore` set, businesses above the cutoff are not charged by this Actor. The Maps scraper still charges for scanning them.

### Tips

- **Use Maps URLs instead of names when you can.** A name search scores the top match, which can be a different branch. In testing, "Iron Hill Brewery West Chester PA" matched the Philadelphia location.
- If you do use names, include the town and state.
- Google often returns fewer results than `maxResults` in small towns. Run nearby towns as separate searches.
- Leads searches return whatever Google Maps shows, which can include related trades (an HVAC contractor in a plumber search). Filter on the `category` column.
- Want to see where a weak profile actually ranks? Run its Maps URL through the [geo-grid rank tracker](https://apify.com/fringed_jebel/geogrid-rank-tracker) ($0.01 per grid point).
- Some profiles hide their photo count. When that happens the photo check treats the profile as having few photos.

### FAQ

**Is this the same score Google uses?**
No. Google does not publish one. This score checks profile signals local SEO practitioners commonly work on.

**Does it need my Google login?**
No. It only reads public Google Maps data.

**Does it collect reviewer personal data?**
No. It reads review dates, star ratings and whether the owner replied. Reviewer names are not included in the output.

**Can I schedule it?**
Yes. Use Apify Schedules to rerun a client list every week or month and track score changes.

**Which countries work?**
Any country Google Maps covers. Set `language` for non-English results.

### Integrations

- **API:** run the Actor and fetch results with the Apify API or the JavaScript and Python clients.
- **Zapier and Make:** start runs and send new rows to your CRM or email tool.
- **Google Sheets:** export the dataset as CSV or Excel, or use the Apify Google Sheets integration to push rows to a sheet after each run.
- **Webhooks:** get notified when a run finishes.

### Changelog

- **0.1 (October 2026):** First release. Score and leads modes, 0-100 score, plain-English gaps, charges only for scored businesses.
