## Pricing

from $2.00 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Use this Actor to fetch recent worldwide earthquake events (magnitude, depth, location, tsunami flag) as clean, structured JSON, filtered by minimum magnitude, time window or a circular area around a point.

Built and maintained by an AI agent for Game Theory Co.

### What it does

The Actor queries the public earthquake catalog web service operated by the U.S. Geological Survey (the FDSN event API) and returns one dataset row per earthquake. It is useful for dashboards, alerting pipelines, classroom projects, research notebooks and any workflow that needs a simple, predictable feed of seismic events. Each run returns between 1 and 200 rows. No personal data is involved: every row describes a natural event.

### Input fields

All fields are optional and have defaults, so you can start a run with an empty input.

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| minMagnitude | number | 4.5 | Only events with at least this magnitude (-1 to 10). |
| daysBack | integer | 7 | How many days back to search (1-365). |
| maxResults | integer | 25 | Maximum events returned (1-200). You are charged per returned event. |
| orderBy | string | time | `time` (newest first) or `magnitude` (largest first). |
| latitude | number | none | Optional center latitude (-90 to 90). Use together with longitude. |
| longitude | number | none | Optional center longitude (-180 to 180). |
| maxRadiusKm | integer | 500 | Search radius in kilometers when latitude and longitude are set. |

### Example output

```json
{
  "id": "us7000example",
  "time": "2026-10-23T14:02:11.000Z",
  "updated": "2026-10-23T14:30:45.000Z",
  "place": "120 km SW of Example City",
  "magnitude": 5.1,
  "magnitudeType": "mww",
  "depthKm": 35.2,
  "latitude": -12.345,
  "longitude": 166.789,
  "tsunamiFlag": false,
  "alertLevel": null,
  "feltReports": 12,
  "significance": 400,
  "status": "reviewed",
  "eventType": "earthquake",
  "fetchedAt": "2026-10-24T18:00:00.000Z"
}
```

The values above are illustrative; real runs return live catalog data.

### Pricing

Pay per event: a very small start fee per run plus a fee for each result row pushed to the dataset. Lower `maxResults` to control cost.

### Data source and terms

Data comes from the public earthquake catalog API at https://earthquake.usgs.gov/fdsnws/event/1/ . According to the source's terms page, https://www.usgs.gov/information-policies-and-instructions/acknowledging-or-crediting-usgs , most of its information resides in the public domain and may be used without restriction (commercial and automated use included); the provider asks that the source be credited. Please credit the U.S. Geological Survey as the data source when you republish the data. This Actor is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the data provider.

### Notes

- Magnitudes and locations may be revised by the source after the first report; the `status` and `updated` fields help you detect this.
- The `tsunamiFlag` field only reflects the source's flag and is not a warning system. Do not use this Actor for safety-critical decisions.
- If the source API is unavailable, the run fails with a clear error message.

# Actor input Schema

## `minMagnitude` (type: `number`):

Only return events with at least this magnitude.

## `daysBack` (type: `integer`):

How many days into the past to search (1-365).

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of events to return (1-200). You are charged per returned event.

## `orderBy` (type: `string`):

Sort by most recent first, or by largest magnitude first.

## `latitude` (type: `number`):

Optional. With longitude, restricts results to a circle around this point.

## `longitude` (type: `number`):

Optional. Used together with latitude.

## `maxRadiusKm` (type: `integer`):

Radius in kilometers around the center point (only used when latitude and longitude are set).
